The new Prime Minister’s Office complex, formerly ‘Executive Enclave’, will now be called ‘Seva Teerth’ to reflect a spirit of service over power. This renaming aligns with a broader shift in public institutions, moving from ‘satta’ (power) to ‘seva’ (service) and emphasizing duty and transparency in governance. NEW DELHI: Meant to reflect the spirit of service rather than ‘power’, the new complex housing the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) shall be called ‘Seva Teerth’ (service pilgrimage), as per officials. Earlier called ‘Executive Enclave’ under the Central Visa Redevelopment project, Seva Teerth right now is in the final stages of completion. The Executive Enclave was meant to house the PMO, besides offices of the Cabinet secretariat, National Security Council Secretariat and India House, which will serve as a venue for high-level talks with visiting dignitaries.Modi Trolls Opposition Over Bihar Setback Days Before Parliament ShowdownSeva Teerth shall be “a workplace designed to reflect the spirit of service and where national priorities take shape,” officials said and added that the choice of name is part of a quiet but profound shift taking place in the country’s public institutions. For instance, only last week, the home ministry wrote to the states and Union territories to rename governor’s houses as ‘Lok Bhavan’ or ‘Lok Niwas’ instead of ‘Raj Bhavan’ as the latter ‘smacks of colonialism’. Several states/UTs have already implemented the directive. Officials said the renaming of ‘Rajpath’ as ‘Kartavya Path’ and PM’s residence as 7, Lok Kalyan Marg instead of 7, Race Course Road, reflect the PM’s focus on changing the orientation of bureaucracy to ‘seva’ (service). The nomenclature ‘Lok Kalyan Marg’ conveys welfare, not exclusivity and is a reminder of the responsibility that lies ahead for every elected govt. “The idea of governance is moving from ‘satta’ (power) to ‘seva’ (service) and from authority to responsibility, they said, adding that the change is not just administrative, but cultural and moral,” said an officer. They added that the spaces of governance, under PM Modi, have been reshaped to lay stress on ‘kartavya’ (duty) and transparency. For instance, the Central Secretariat is now known as Kartavya Bhavan, a vast administrative hub built around the idea that public service is a commitment.“The change in nomenclature marks a deeper ideological transition and shift in mindset….Today, govt officials must speak the language of seva, kartavya and citizen-first governance,” said an officer. Karnataka’s chief ministerial post remains undecided as Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar’s “breakfast diplomacy” yields no timeline from the party high command. Both leaders project unity, calling for a peaceful settlement amidst ongoing speculation. Siddaramaiah’s cryptic “politics is not permanent” comment further fuels discussions about a potential leadership change. NEW DELHI: Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar had two breakfasts together within a week, but the deadlock over the Karnataka chief ministerial post does not seem likely to end soon. The second round of the “breakfast diplomacy” at the deputy chief minister’s residence drew a blank yet again, after both Siddaramaiah and DKS left the decision to the party high command.’We Are United…Will Go To Delhi If High Command Calls’: Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar After Meeting”When the high command says,” Siddaramaiah responded when asked when Shivakumar would become the chief minister.”So far, there is no communication from the high command on the timeline for any decision on the matter. If they (high command) call us, we will definitely go and meet them. Tomorrow, I will be meeting AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal at a function where both of us are invited,” he added. Both Congress leaders also put up a united front. The chief minister asserted that there are no differences between him and his deputy, adding that they are running the government like “brothers” and will continue to do so in the future as well.‘All we want is a peaceful settlement’Meanwhile, home minister G Parameshwar, another name in the fray for the CM post, acknowledged the stir and called for a “peaceful settlement.””It’s a good thing that our leaders are getting together again for breakfast. All we want is a peaceful settlement of whatever has happened over the month or so. As suggested by the high command, they are meeting for the second time. All the issues are settled. It is just reciprocal, nothing else,” Parameshwar said.‘Politics is not permanent’Additionally, hours after meeting DKS, Siddaramaiah added to the speculation as he was heard saying “politics is not permanent” during an informal conversation with Congress MLA Belur Gopal.Though the context of the conversation — the video of which has gone viral — is unclear, it is being linked to CM change talks in the state.”Whatever has to happen, let it happen. Is politics my father’s property? Politics is not permanent,” Siddaramaiah can be heard telling Gopal Krishna, MLA from Sagara, as they emerged from inside Vidhana Soudha. This comes after the first breakfast between Siddaramaiah and DKS. The outreach comes after the Congress high command nudged both leaders to present a united front ahead of the Belagavi legislature session starting December 8.Earlier, as soon as the Congress government in Karnataka completed its halfway mark on November 20, reports quoting Congress sources suggested that MLAs and MLCs from Shivakumar’s faction had camped in Delhi to push the party high command to make him the next chief minister.DK Shivakumar added to the speculation after he claimed there had indeed been “a confidential understanding on leadership transition among five-six leaders” soon after Congress won a landslide in the 2023 elections. The deputy chief minister made the first reference to the power pact but stopped short of divulging more details. “This is confidential. I don’t want to speak publicly on this,” he said.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Defense minister Rajnath Singh highlighted Operation Sindoor as a firm response to those ignoring peace, drawing parallels with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s decisive leadership. He praised the armed forces and emphasized the government’s commitment to Patel’s vision of a united India, citing Article 370’s abrogation and strengthened indigenous defence capabilities. File photo: Defense minister Rajnath Singh (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: Defense minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said Operation Sindoor had sent a clear signal that India responds firmly when pushed, drawing a parallel between the government’s action against terrorism and the decisive leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Speaking at the ‘Sardar Sabha’ in Vadodara’s Sadhli village during the Unity March organised to mark Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, he said the operation demonstrated India’s ability to act when peace efforts are ignored.”India showed the world through Operation Sindoor that it is capable of giving a befitting reply to those who do not understand the language of peace and goodwill”, Singh said, as quoted by news agency PTI.Singh praised the armed forces for the success of the mission, stating that “the world is today acknowledging the bravery and capabilities of Indian soldiers.” He added that Patel too believed in dialogue but did not hesitate to take a hard line when required, recalling his role in Hyderabad’s merger. According to him, the present government had upheld the same value through Operation Sindoor, which is “being discussed not only on Indian soil but also in other countries around the world”.The minister targeted former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru over the Babri Masjid issue, saying Nehru intended to construct it using public funds, a proposal prevented by Patel. Singh said Patel had also clarified that the restoration of the Somnath Temple was different because the Rs 30 lakh required had been contributed by ordinary citizens. “Similarly, the government didn’t give a single rupee to construct the Ram Temple in Ayodhya,” he said, calling it an example of “real secularism”.Singh said the Modi government had strengthened Patel’s vision of a united India, citing the removal of Article 370. He argued that if Patel’s approach had been followed during the accession of Kashmir, the issue would not have lingered for decades. He also criticised attempts by earlier governments to minimise Patel’s legacy, claiming that even memorial funds raised by people were redirected on Nehru’s instructions. He questioned why Patel was not given the Bharat Ratna at the time, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi later honoured him through the Statue of Unity.Emphasising national security and defense modernisation, Singh said Patel had long pushed for indigenous capability — an approach the current government is pursuing through Make in India. India aims to achieve defense production worth Rs 3 lakh crore and exports of Rs 50,000 crore by 2029, he said, highlighting that defense exports had risen nearly 34-fold in 11 years. He also spoke of the proposed Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill 2025, which seeks ethical conduct from those in high office, providing for automatic removal if a person arrested on serious charges does not secure bail within 30 days. Singh said Patel himself cared little for position, recalling that he stepped aside in 1946 on Mahatma Gandhi’s advice, allowing Nehru to become Congress president despite having majority backing.Senior leaders, including Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, also attended the event.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Bharatiya Janata Party has responded to Congress accusations regarding the Sanchar Saathi app. BJP leaders stated the app aims to protect users from fraud and crime, not to monitor them. They emphasised that the application can be removed by users. Congress had alleged the directive was dictatorial and called the app a snooping tool. BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra (PTI) NEW DELHI: BJP on Tuesday hit back at the Congress after the opposition accused the government of infringing on citizens’ privacy by directing smartphone makers to preload the Sanchar Saathi app on new devices.Taking a jibe at the Congress, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “I know who will delete it… ‘Chor ki daadhi mein tinka’ (a guilty conscience needs no accuser)”He also made a veiled reference to the National Herald case, in which Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are accused. “You know very well who they are. An FIR has also been filed against them. They have swindled Rs 5,000 crore. At present, they are out on bail,” he told reporters at the BJP headquarters, as reported by PTI.Defending the app, Patra said it is designed to protect users from fraud and crime, not to monitor them, and emphasised that people are free to remove it from their phones if they do not wish to use it. “The app cannot read your messages. It cannot listen to your calls, incoming or outgoing. Sanchar Saathi cannot reach or breach your personal data.” He added that the app helps provide security, check fraud, track stolen mobile phones, and return them to their owners.Minister of communications Jyotiraditya Scindia also, clarified that the app will remain dormant unless users register on it, and can be deleted at any time.Congress has alleged that the directive reflects a “dictatorial” approach, calling Sanchar Saathi a “snooping app” and demanding that the move be withdrawn. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of trying to “strangulate the voice of the people”.Responding sharply, Patra said, “Mr Kharge, it is not meant to strangulate people’s voice but to secure their voice, and their mobile phones, without which life is difficult today. We need to secure the device. That is why the government has brought this app.”“You keep on spreading misinformation. But people know how to move on,” he added, as quoted by PTI.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Election Commission to consider deferring the exercise of filling and submission of enumeration forms amid the ongoing special Intensive revision of electoral rolls in Kerala. This comes after the top court issued order on certain pleas filed by political parties in Kerala that have challenged the SIR process alleging that it is causing an impediment to ongoing local body elections in the state.A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant also asked the petitioners to hand over their grievances by Wednesday, following which the poll panel may take a decision and submit it before the court. The apex court also noted that it will consider the issue both “objectively and sympathetically” if it turns out that intervention is needed.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. India’s third indigenous nuclear-powered submarine is set for commissioning soon, announced Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. He also detailed how Operation Sindoor’s aggressive naval action forced Pakistan’s forces to remain near their coast. The Navy’s extensive operations over the past year, including continuous anti-piracy duties and significant ship and flying hours, were also highlighted. Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi NEW DELHI: Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on Tuesday said that India’s third indigenously built nuclear-powered submarine will be commissioned soon. Speaking ahead of Navy Day, he also explained how the Navy’s strong action during counterterror Operation Sindoor forced Pakistan’s naval forces to stay close to their coastline.Admiral Tripathi said, “The aggressive posturing and immediate action during Operation Sindoor… forced Pakistan Navy to remain close to their ports or near the Makran coast.” He added that the operation is still ongoing. He also described how busy the Navy has been over the past year, completing 11,000 ship days and 50,000 flying hours since the last Navy Day. One Indian ship has been continuously deployed in the Gulf of Aden since 2008 for anti-piracy duties, and 138 ships have taken part so far, escorting more than 3,700 merchant vessels from different countries.Admiral Tripathi said the Navy has received international recognition, noting that one naval ship was praised by the International Maritime Organisation for rescuing nine crew members from an Omani vessel last year. He added, “I also got a thank-you letter from the chief of the Oman Navy.”Vice Admiral K Swaminathan, head of the Western Naval Command, also highlighted the impact of Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pakistan-sponsored terror attack in Pahalgam. The operation destroyed nine major terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and damaged key airbases. He said Operation Sindoor saw an unprecedented mobilisation of more than 30 ships and submarines in a short period. “Our frontline ships were poised for combat off the Makran coast, under the umbrella of Vikrant Carrier Battle Group,” he said.Swaminathan added that the Navy’s strong posture played a major role in Pakistan seeking a ceasefire, saying, “The threat of offensive action by the Indian Navy could be considered one of the important factors in Pakistan requesting for a ceasefire.”About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. The Supreme Court questioned the obligation to illegal entrants during a hearing on Rohingya disappearances. The court asked if ‘intruders’ should receive a ‘red carpet welcome’. The bench emphasized that if individuals lack legal status, deportation is a valid consideration. The court pondered the implications of illegal entry followed by demands for legal protections. Supreme Court The Supreme Court on Tuesday took a sharp stance while hearing a habeas corpus plea alleging the custodial disappearance of Rohingya individuals and seeking that any deportation follow due process, asking whether “intruders” should be given a “red carpet welcome,” as reported by LiveLaw.Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, sitting with Justice Joymalya Bagchi, questioned the basis of the plea, asking, “Where is the order of the Government of India declaring them (Rohingyas) as refugees? Refugee is a well defined legal term… If there is no legal status of a refugee, and somebody is an intruder, and he enters illegally, do we have an obligation to keep that fellow here?”The petitioner’s counsel clarified that no refugee status was being sought — only that deportation must follow law.LiveLaw quoted the bench saying: “If they don’t have legal status to stay in India… If an intruder comes, do we give them a red carpet welcome saying we would like to give you all facilities? What is the problem in sending them back?”CJI Kant further remarked on illegal entry, saying: “First you enter, you cross the border illegally… Then you say, now that I have entered, your laws must apply to me… Do we want to stretch the law like this?”About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar showcased unity after their second breakfast meeting, asserting they will govern together. Amid leadership speculation, they pledged to follow the high command’s decisions and unite MLAs against the opposition. Discussions also covered farmer issues and the upcoming assembly session. NEW DELHI: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar on Tuesday projected a strong display of unity after their second breakfast meeting at Deputy CM’s residence, declaring that they would “run the government together,” amid escalating leadership tussle within the Congress.Addressing the joint press briefing, Siddaramaiah said a meeting with the party high command was also likely soon. When asked about the possibility of Shivakumar becoming chief minister, he responded, “When the High Command says.” “There are no differences. Me and DK Shivakumar are united. We will run the government together in the future as well. All our MLAs are united, and unitedly we will face the opposition. We are in the same party, we follow the same ideology, and we work together. In the future, too, both of us will work together and bring the party back to power,” he said, setting a confident tone of unity, downplaying the speculated leadership conflict.”This unity is not something new today; we have always been united. Whatever decision Rahul Gandhi makes, we will act accordingly; that is what I have said,” he added, reiterating that their partnership was not new.Siddaramaiah visited Shivakumar’s residence for breakfast 2.0, a gesture seen as an attempt to ease tensions just days after the two senior Congress leaders held a similar meeting at the chief minister’s CM’s Cauvery residence for a similar breakfast meeting on Saturday.Their first breakfast meet featured traditional Idli-Sambar and Upma spread, while DK Shivakumar hosted Siddaramaiah with steaming plates of traditional Nati chicken and Idlis. The outreach comes after the Congress high command nudged both leaders to present a united front ahead of the Belagavi legislature session starting December 8. Discussions on MSP, assembly session and party issuesSiddaramaiah said the two discussed issues affecting farmers, including MSP for maize and sugarcane. “After breakfast, we discussed the assembly session. It was decided that we should call a meeting of the MLAs on December 8. We will discuss farmers’ issues and other issues of the state.””We discussed party-related matters. More importantly, the Assembly session is starting next Monday. They said they will bring a no-confidence motion. Our government is pro-farmer. We also discussed issues related to maize and sugarcane. I have spoken to the farmers, and the government has decided the price. I have also spoken to farmers, poultry farmers and fishery farmers,” the CM further noted. The Karnataka chief minister further said that, both the senior leaders “will accept the decision taken by the high command, especially Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge.””If they (the party high command) call us (to Delhi), we will definitely go. Tomorrow I am meeting KC Venugopal at a function where both of us are invited,” he added reaffirming loyalty to the leadership.Shivakumar also affirmed the government’s commitment towards development in the state saying, “Honoured to welcome the Hon’ble Chief Minister to my residence today. We stand committed to the development of Karnataka and the progress of our people.”Honoured to welcome the Hon’ble Chief Minister to my residence today. Talk of a 2023 “power-sharing” formula, where Siddaramaiah would serve 2.5 years before handing over the CM post to Shivakumar has fueled tensions, though neither leader has acknowledged such an agreement and the party has never confirmed it.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. The Indian government’s mandate for pre-installing the Sanchar Saathi app on all mobile devices has ignited a political firestorm. While the Department of Telecommunications cites curbing IMEI misuse and strengthening cybersecurity, opposition parties decry it as a ‘snooping app’ and an unconstitutional privacy breach, fearing government surveillance. NEW DELHI: The central government’s dictum to makers regarding pre-installation of the Sanchar Saathi application on all mobile handsets manufactured or imported in India has sparked a massive political row over concerns of privacy breach. While the department of telecommunications (DoT) justified the measure as a move for “curbing IMEI misuse”, the opposition has raised red flags calling it a “snooping app” and terming the move “unconstitutional”. Some even compared it with Pegasus spyware. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a unique number used to identify mobile phones. Most phones have one IMEI, but dual-SIM phones have two. What is Sanchar Saathi App?Sanchar Saathi App is a “citizen centric initiative of DoT to empower mobile subscribers, strengthen their security and increase awareness about citizen centric initiatives.”It offers services like reporting fraud calls or messages, checking phone genuineness through IMEI, finding and blocking lost phones, seeing all mobile numbers in your name, and reporting suspicious international calls. It requires permissions for call/SMS logs, sending SMS for registration, accessing photos/files, and using the camera for IMEI scanning. The controversy erupted after DoT directed all mobile manufacturers and importers to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi app on devices sold in India, calling it a move towards “strengthening cybersecurity and curbing IMEI misuse.”‘Big Brother cannot watch us’: Opposition hits outCalling it a “dystopian” move, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal questioned the constitutionality of the move saying, “A pre-loaded government app that cannot be uninstalled is a dystopian tool to monitor every Indian. For the last 11 years, basic rights of the Indians have been taken away… This is the real violation of National Security,” Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury said.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. NEW DELHI: With a little over 3 lakh property uploads initiated on the Central Waqf Portal (UMEED) so far and the six month deadline set out under the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 coming to an end on December 5, the ministry of minority affairs on Monday urged people who have still not registered to “hurry” and upload details as it is “mandatory” and only “4 days are left”.The ministry’s post on X to expedite uploads came after the Supreme Court refused to extend time for the mandatory registration of all waqf properties under the UMEED portal. For those who fail to upload by Friday, the only option will be to approach the waqf tribunal. Only if the tribunal is satisfied with the reasons for not filing within the deadline, it can allow extension of time up to six months.West Bengal which has been strongly opposing the amended Waqf Act last week reportedly issued directions to the state authorities to adhere to the deadline and upload details of all waqf properties. It had not joined the process earlier even though there was no official communication to the ministry on its stand on registration on the portal. The number of properties from the state that have initiated uploading stood at 5,478 on Monday evening.Of the 3 lakh plus uploads initiated, the properties are at different stages of verification and as of Monday 7,353 were rejected and over 41,000 were awaiting approval. While the status of uploads stands at zero for Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim from the northeast and Goa in West and Ladakh in the north, the maximum uploads have been initiated so far from Karnataka (54,150) followed by Maharashtra (45,310) and Uttar Pradesh (37,104).The ministry will be holding an online meeting with Waqf Boards on Tuesday to meet the deadline. The wide variation in data uploads across states indicates a probability of decline in the total number of properties that might finally end – up successfully uploading the information within the deadline. On concerns related to glitches and complexities in uploading being cited by some Muslim bodies and Muttawalis, the ministry has claimed that adequate training and meetings have been held with waqf boards. At the time of the launch of the portal that aims to bring transparency in the database, the ministry had shared that there were over 8.72 lakh properties registered as waqf as per data shared by states. However, ministry officials said that the data on the earlier – Waqf Assets Management System of India (WAMSI) was found to be severely lacking necessitating a new portal (UMEED) that seeks to plug the gaps.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideos’India Values Thailand As Important Maritime Neighbour’: Jaishankar In Bilateral Talks With Thai FMIndia Stands Strong with B Russia Energy Investment, Ex-Envoy Malhotra ConfirmsWatch: MPs Speak Out as SIR Row Dominates Winter Session OpeningIndia’s Elections Earn Global Praise, CEC Calls It A ‘Moment Of Pride’ Amid Vote Row ClaimsHaryana Bodybuilder Killed After Standing Up To Harassers; Family Says Attack Was Planned MurderModi Trolls Opposition Over Bihar Setback Days Before Parliament ShowdownWoman Marries Boyfriend’s Corpse After Family Kills Him, Alleges Police Provoked BrotherMajor Twist In BrahMos Espionage Case As Higher Court Acquits Scientist Of Passing Defence SecretsRamaphosa Praises PM Modi’s Endorsement of South Africa Hosting G20 Summit, Counters Trump’s Claims‘Is There Any Law?’ Renuka Chaudhary Sparks Row After Bringing Stray Dog to Parliament123Photostories9 reasons to make your child eat almonds every morningWe have never seen a diamond ring like Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s: All about Raj Nidimoru’s beautiful wife’s ultra-rare engagement ringYour Good Luck Charm For 2026 According To Your Date of BirthBaby names for girls born on Tuesday9 Hanuman Mantras According To Your Date of BirthSunny Deol, Jaya Bachchan to Kalki Koechlin: Bollywood actors who stepped behind the camera as scriptwritersDiabetes management: Doctor shares top 5 lifestyle strategies to lower HbA1c levelsFrom Sunda Pangolins to Sunda tiger: 5 of the most endangered animals in the world5 statement watches for women that will complete your traditional wedding lookKamal Haasan performances that redefined Indian cinema forever123Hot PicksParliament Winter SessionCyclone DitwahWorld NewsGold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays NovemberBank Holidays NovemberTop TrendingCardi BShedeur SandersDrake MayePat McAfeeCandace Owens Net WorthGisele BndchenConnor McDavidLian BichselLane Kiffin DaughterAnthony Davis

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge accused PM Modi of “dramabazi” and undermining parliamentary conventions. He highlighted the government’s refusal to debate public issues and the passage of bills without discussion. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav questioned the “drama” surrounding BLO deaths and UP polls, demanding compensation and a probe into voter list exercises allegedly favouring the BJP. NEW DELHI: Accusing PM Narendra Modi of “delivering dramabazi” on the first day of winter session of Parliament, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said BJP govt has shattered parliamentary conventions over the past 11 years by refusing to debate issues of public concern and by bulldozing bills detrimental to the common man, like the farm laws. Opposition will continue to demand a discussion on ‘vote chori’ in the wake of deaths of BLOs, he stressed.Kharge said govt passed 12 bills without discussion in less than 15 minutes during Monsoon session, while the PM had remained completely silent on the Manipur turmoil till opposition was forced to move a no-confidence motion on the issue. Kiren Rijiju, JP Nadda Slam Kharge Over Rajya Sabha Remarks On Jagdeep Dhankhar’s Exit “BJP should now end this drama of distraction and engage in debate on real issues facing the people. The truth is that the common man is struggling with unemployment, inflation, economic inequality and looting of the country’s precious resources, while those in power are playing the game of dramabazi in arrogance of authority,” he said.Slamming Modi’s hurling of “drama” jibe at opposition, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav asked if the death of BLOs is a “drama” too and if police-BJP nexus in UP polls which saw “cops flashing revolvers” to stop voters from voting was also a “drama”. Akhilesh demanded that EC pay Rs 1 crore compensation to families of BLOs who have died because of the stressful SIR exercise.Demanding a discussion in Parliament on SIR, he said, “There is chaos. BLOs were not properly trained to enrol voters. It is EC’s job to enrol voters, but here political parties are running around to ensure that voting rights are safeguarded.”He alleged, “SIR is being done to help BJP win after they lost (LS) elections. Big IT companies are helping BJP weed out voters and identify who should be included. In UP and Bengal, we can clearly see that BJP wants to oust voters at the booths where opposition parties won in (LS) elections.”End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosWatch: MPs Speak Out as SIR Row Dominates Winter Session OpeningIndia’s Elections Earn Global Praise, CEC Calls It A ‘Moment Of Pride’ Amid Vote Row ClaimsHaryana Bodybuilder Killed After Standing Up To Harassers; Family Says Attack Was Planned MurderModi Trolls Opposition Over Bihar Setback Days Before Parliament ShowdownWoman Marries Boyfriend’s Corpse After Family Kills Him, Alleges Police Provoked BrotherMajor Twist In BrahMos Espionage Case As Higher Court Acquits Scientist Of Passing Defence SecretsRamaphosa Praises PM Modi’s Endorsement of South Africa Hosting G20 Summit, Counters Trump’s Claims‘Is There Any Law?’ Renuka Chaudhary Sparks Row After Bringing Stray Dog to ParliamentBSF IG Warns Of Looming Threat As 120 Terrorists Wait In PoK Despite Dip In Infiltration AttemptsPakistan Rages At UN After Criticism Of Munir’s Immunity Amendment Amid Fears Of Deeper Militarism123PhotostoriesDiabetes management: Doctor shares top 5 lifestyle strategies to lower HbA1c levelsFrom Sunda Pangolins to Sunda tiger: 5 of the most endangered animals in the world5 statement watches for women that will complete your traditional wedding lookKamal Haasan performances that redefined Indian cinema foreverIncrease protein intake: 4 easy ways to add more of it to everyday diet3 powerful anti-inflammatory drinks and how to make them at homeFrom Dead Sea Scrolls to Hope Diamond, 7 priceless objects in the world7 dinner dishes made with leftover roti offering over 20 gms protein5 animals that camouflage so perfectly that they almost become invisibleHow to make fiber-rich Gobhi ka Paratha for breakfast123Hot PicksParliament Winter SessionCyclone DitwahWorld NewsGold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays NovemberBank Holidays NovemberTop TrendingCardi BShedeur SandersDrake MayePat McAfeeCandace Owens Net WorthGisele BndchenConnor McDavidLian BichselJayden StrubleAnthony Davis
