NEW DELHI: IndiGo on Tuesday said it will temporarily discontinue its wide-body flight operations to and from Manchester from Aug 31, citing longer flight routes due to airspace restrictions amid the Iran conflict, rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs, and forex volatility. The budget airline will return one of the six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft it had taken on damp lease (hired along with operating crew) from Norse Atlantic Airways in early 2025. IndiGo’s Abhijit Dasgupta said: “We inducted these aircraft to fast-track our connectivity to high-potential long-haul destinations and witnessed a very encouraging response. NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has closed a coal block allocation case registered by CBI more than a decade ago against Hindalco Industries and discharged the company and its former president and CEO S K Tamotia and former general manager (Corporate Affairs) PRS Mani, reports Koushiki Saha.Special judge (PC Act) Dheeraj Mor held that prima facie, no case of criminal breach of trust, cheating or criminal conspiracy was made out, and CBI failed to establish any illegality by the accused. The accused are entitled to be discharged as there is “neither any evidence on record nor any justifiable reason to infer that they entered into criminal conspiracy to commit any illegal act”, the court said in its May 30 order. The case related to the allocation of Talabira-I coal block in Odisha to Hindalco in 1994, with the FIR filed in Jan 2015. CBI alleged the company violated allocation conditions by using coal from the block in its existing 67.5 MW captive power plant at Hirakud instead of limiting its use to proposed power projects.CBI alleged that the company extracted 4.80 million tonnes of coal beyond its estimated reserves of 15 million tonnes, deriving undue gains. The court, however, found that the restriction cited by CBI was included in the original allocation letter but not in the mining lease executed between Odisha govt and Hindalco in 2003. It held that the mining lease governed the legal rights and rejected allegation of misleading representations.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosSaying ‘I Love Pakistan’ Is Okay For You?: Pawan Kalyan Slams Congress, Seeks Rahul’s ResponseSonam Wangchuk To Join Cockroach Janata Party’s Delhi Protest If Education Minister Doesn’t ResignWhere Are TMC Leaders? Dipke’s plan “is to lead a peaceful protest demanding immediate resignation of education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over repeated examination failures”.Protest will be non-violent & constitutional, says DipkeOn June 6, after landing at the airport. Abhijeet Dipke intends to walk to Parliament Street police station to formally request permission for a demonstration to the end point at Jantar Mantar. The protest, he says, will remain non-violent and constitutional. “I am pretty confident there will be consequences upon my return, (but) I am also sure about coming back,” Dipke told TOI from US.But he remains optimistic too. “There are many people who have extended their support and said they will join the protest,” he said. The protest comes amid several examination controversies, including the NEET paper leak row and concerns surrounding recruitment and entrance examinations such as CUET, CBSE and SSC GD that Dipke says have “upended the future of more than 10 million students”. Dipke said the issue goes beyond any single examination. “The longer plan is to fix accountability within govt,” he said.Asked whether concerns about his family or threats he’s received worried him, Dipke replied in the negative. “I have already dealt with all kinds of death threats in the last few days,” he said. He’s also unfazed by allegations about his funding and claims that he’s trying to trigger a Gen Z revolution of the kind witnessed in Bangladesh and Nepal.Dipke launched CJP’s X account on May 16. NEW DELHI: A potentially debilitating wave of alleged cyberattacks struck CBSE’s newly launched Class 12 verification and re-evaluation portal within hours of its activation on Tuesday, raising fresh concerns over the cybersecurity preparedness of India’s high-stakes examination infrastructure and the safety of sensitive student data linked to the board’s on-screen marking (OSM) system.CBSE said the site faced a denial-of-service attack that generated nearly 15 lakh hits within two minutes and more than one lakh attempts to gain unauthorised access to files.16k have successfully filed re-evaluation applications: CBSEThe CBSE re-evaluation portal is currently supporting more than 8,000 concurrent users. As of 3pm today (Tuesday), over 16,000 students have successfully submitted their applications,” the board said. “While thousands of students accessed the CBSE re-evaluation portal Tuesday, malicious actors attempted to disrupt services through a barrage of cyberattacks,” it added.Srinivas L, joint MD and joint CEO of 63SATS Cybertech, described the alleged attack as “a coordinated, two-pronged operation”.“The DOS (disk operating system) is the smokescreen. The file access probing is what they actually came for. You don’t throw that kind of volume at a portal unless you’re trying to pull something out while everyone’s busy fighting the fire,” Srinivas said.He warned that examination platforms remain highly vulnerable because attack windows are predictable and the data involved includes minors’ personal information, scanned answer sheets and Aadhaar-linked identity details. “Most of these platforms are sized for a normal day’s traffic, not a deliberate surge built to break them,” he said.CBSE maintained that despite the attacks, the portal remained operational and had been refined after student feedback, including extension of session time limits to make submissions “more convenient”.The portal went live a day after its scheduled launch on June 1. CBSE officials had earlier attributed the postponement to technical issues, triggering anxiety among students awaiting access for verification and re-evaluation after obtaining scanned copies of answer scripts.Students, however, continued to report difficulties. Tridip Pramanick posted on X that correct chemistry answers had been marked wrong and urged CBSE to reopen the photocopy portal. Anshika Patel, said the platform repeatedly crashed during the scanned-copy application process, while Mahender S Mahara reported “access denied” errors and login failures even after launch. Some students also said they were yet to receive scanned copies of answer sheets. CBSE had not responded to those complaints till the filing of this report. The controversy had earlier prompted the education ministry to deploy a four-member technical team comprising experts from IIT-Kanpur and IIT-Madras to audit the platform and strengthen cybersecurity safeguards linked to the OSM system.About the AuthorManash Pratim GohainManash Pratim Gohain is a seasoned journalist with over two decades at The Times of India, where he has built a rich body of work spanning education policy, politics, and governance.
