I went to meet Lalu ji in Patna, but no one agreed to see me,” he stated.Addressing his earlier allegation that he had been asked for Rs 2.7 crore in exchange for a ticket, Shah clarified that the demand was not made to him “directly.” “It was conveyed through the media. So whom could I have given the money to? I couldn’t just throw it on the road. ‘Big leaders’ had said through the media that I should be asked for money in return for a ticket,” the RJD leader added. The Bihar assembly elections were conducted on November 6 and 11, while the counting of votes was held on Friday. NEW DELHI: Tej Pratap Yadav issued an emotionally charged response after his sister Rohini Acharya announced she was quitting politics and severing ties with the Yadav family. In a post shared on his Janshakti Janta Dal party’s Instagram account, Tej Pratap warned those he described as “traitors” and made a heartfelt appeal to his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav.“Yesterday’s incident has shaken me to the core. What happened to me — I endured it. But the insult done to my sister is absolutely unbearable under any circumstances,” he wrote, adding: “Listen, traitors— If you target our family, the people of Bihar will never forgive you. When the emotions of the people are wounded, the dust covering their judgment is blown away.”In his statement, he accused unnamed individuals of influencing his brother Tejashwi Yadav’s political judgment. “These few faces have even clouded Tejashwi’s judgment. The consequences of this injustice will be extremely grave. The interest per day is 63 crores. The treasury is empty. We have information which could be wrong, also that the amount of Rs 10,000 given to women in the state was given from Rs 21,000 crores, which came from the World Bank for some other project. An hour before the moral code of conduct for the polls, Rs 14,000 crores were taken out and distributed to 1.25 crore women in the state,” he claimed in an interview with news agency ANI.Chirag Paswan calls it ‘empty claims’Union minister Chirag Paswan dismissed the allegations outright, questioning both the credibility of the data and the intent behind the accusations. Speaking to reporters, he said,”Where do they get this data from, this information from?… Making empty claims – if you have any facts, present it and the Govt will respond.”People of Bihar did not want the jungle raj to return: Jan Suraaj Verma further rejected suggestions that Prashant Kishor’s stand on lifting the liquor ban had damaged the party. He argued instead that the prohibition regime was already ineffective, with liquor “being sold at every nook and corner” and even home-delivered at inflated prices. He noted that over two lakh people, mostly from extremely backward Dalit communities, had been jailed under the prohibition law. “People are consuming it and paying more for it. Would that not affect women who have to run their homes?” he asked.Despite mounting a high-energy campaign and contesting all 243 seats, Jan Suraaj failed to win a single constituency. Verma said last-minute cash transfers, women-centric schemes, and a consolidation among voters who did not want the “jungle raaj” of the RJD to return proved decisive. “Nitish ji was the X factor… People of Bihar did not want the jungle raj of Lalu ji, RJD and Tejashwi to return,” he said.The ruling NDA got 202 seats, a three-fourths majority in the 243-member House. This is the second time the NDA has crossed the 200-mark in the assembly polls. New Delhi [India], November 16 (ANI): The Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam, successfully hosted the annual Navy Education Society (NES) Conference 2025 from November 10 to 13, according to the Ministry of Defence.The conference featured pivotal meetings of the Executive Committee, Management Advisory Committee (MAC), and Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) focusing on policy framework and operational aspects of Naval Schools amidst the transformative implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.The Executive Committee meeting, held on November 12 was chaired by VAdm CR Praveen Nair, Controller Personnel Services and Chairperson of NES. The MAC and AAC sessions were led by Cmde SM Urooj Athar, Commodore (Naval Education) and Vice Chairperson of NES.The event witnessed the participation of officers from Naval Headquarters alongside academic and administrative leaders representing Naval Schools nationwide, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.Delegates presented case studies addressing challenges and effective resolution strategies. The BJP led the tally with 89 seats, followed closely by the Janata Dal (United) with 85. Other allies also made strong gains: the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) bagged five, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four.In contrast, the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan managed only 35 seats. The RJD won 25, Congress six, CPI(ML)(L) two, the Indian Inclusive Party one, and CPI(M) one. NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah will on Monday chair the 32nd meeting of the Northern Zonal Council in Haryana’s Faridabad, where issues like education, health, electricity, speedy investigation of cases of sexual offences against women and children, among others, are likely to be discussed.The Northern Zonal Council comprises the states and Union territories of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Chandigarh.Chief ministers, lieutenant governors, senior officials from the central and state governments and Union territories will participate in the meeting.The zonal councils provide an excellent forum for resolving and progressing issues and disputes between the Centre and the member states and Union territories, among the member states and Union territories, and within the zone, an official statement said.The zonal council will discuss broad issues of national importance, including the speedy investigation of cases of sexual offences against women and children and the implementation of Fast Track Special Courts (FTSC) for their swift disposal, providing brick-and-mortar banking facilities within the designated area of every village, implementation of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), the statement said.Various regional-level common interest issues, such as strengthening nutrition, education, health, electricity, urban planning, and the cooperative system will also be discussed in the meeting, which will be held on the outskirts of the national capital.The Northern Zonal Council is among the five zonal councils established under sections 15 to 22 of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956.The Union home minister is the chairperson of the Northern Zonal Council and the chief minister of Haryana is its vice-chairperson.The chief minister of one member state (rotating every year) acts as the vice-chairperson.From each member state, the governor nominates two ministers as members of the council.Each Zonal Council has also formed a permanent committee at the level of chief secretaries.Issues proposed by the states are initially presented to the permanent committee of the concerned Zonal Council for discussion. After consideration by the permanent committee, the remaining issues are then presented to the Zonal Council meeting for further deliberation.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the vision of ‘TEAM BHARAT’ and the zonal councils have been significantly contributing in this direction, the statement said.The role of the zonal councils is advisory. NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday virtually inaugurated 10 new AMRIT centres across major medical institutions in the country and released a commemorative postal stamp to mark a decade of Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment (AMRIT) programme — an initiative aimed at improving access to quality medicines and implants at affordable prices.The new centres are located at PGI Neurosciences Centre (Chandigarh), GMCH Unit II (Jammu), State Cancer Institute (Jammu), AIIMS Deoghar (Jharkhand), Dental Hospital (Srinagar, Kashmir), SCTIMST (Trivandrum, Kerala), Mumbai Port Trust Hospital (Maharashtra), IIT Jodhpur (Rajasthan), AIIMS Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), and AIIMS Kalyani Unit 3 (West Bengal).The virtual inauguration and stamp release took place during the “AMRIT Ki 10 Varsh” celebrations, attended by Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, Dr Anita Thampi, CMD, HLL Lifecare Ltd., and senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.Nadda said AMRIT, launched in 2015, has played a key role in making essential and life-saving medicines more affordable, particularly for patients requiring treatment in oncology, cardiology, orthopaedics, and endocrinology.Implemented through HLL Lifecare Ltd., a public sector enterprise, AMRIT stores are typically located within major government hospitals and medical colleges. They provide branded and generic medicines, surgical implants, and medical consumables at discounts of up to 50–90% compared to market prices.The scheme focuses on drugs used in the treatment of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, orthopaedic disorders, and other chronic conditions. Over the years, it has become an important component of India’s universal health coverage strategy, complementing initiatives such as Jan Aushadhi.So far, 255 AMRIT outlets have dispensed medicines worth over Rs 17,000 crore, leading to estimated savings of Rs 8,500 crore for patients, according to the Health Ministry.“AMRIT has become a credible model for affordable healthcare and an example of how public sector initiatives can deliver both quality and value,” Nadda said. Just a day after declaring she was distancing herself, Rohini accused Tejashwi of humiliating and abusing her, claiming that matters escalated to the point where “a slipper was raised to hit her.”Taking to X, Rohini wrote an emotional post, stating she was forced to leave behind her aged parents, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi – in tears while protecting her dignity. She posted writing in Hindi, which translates to: “Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her, a slipper was raised to hit her. I did not compromise on my self-respect, I did not surrender the truth, and solely because of this, I had to endure this insult. Yesterday, a daughter, out of compulsion, left behind her crying parents and sisters and came away; they tore me away from my maternal home. They left me orphaned. May none of you ever walk my path, may no family ever have a daughter-sister like Rohini.”In a second post, Rohini referred to her kidney donation to her father in 2022 while alleging that personal and offensive remarks were made about it. She wrote that she was taunted for having “put a filthy kidney” into her father and accused of having “taken millions of rupees and bought a ticket” for the transplant. She further posted, “If there’s a son or brother in your parents’ home, then… tell your brother to get a kidney transplant from himself or his Haryanvi mates instead.”Rohini also wrote, “All you sisters and daughters, look after your own home and family… without a thought for your parents… with me, it was a massive sin to not look after my family or my three children, to not get permission from my husband or my in-laws before donating… which today has been branded as filthy.”A day earlier, Rohini had already shocked RJD supporters by alleging, “I have no family. You can go and ask this to Sanjay Yadav, Rameez, and Tejashwi Yadav. The BJP won 89 seats, JD(U) secured 85, and smaller NDA allies posted strong strike rates across the state. Delhi car blast probe NEW DELHI: Dr Umer Un Nabi, the bomber behind the Nov 10 blast near Red Fort, had set up a laboratory at his house near the Al-Falah University in Faridabad, where he would test various kinds of explosives and try out the bomb-making techniques shared with him by his Pakistani handlers via Telegram.Sources close to the investigation told TOI that he possibly put together the “loosely assembled” improvised explosive device (IED) responsible for the Red Fort car blast at this home laboratory.‘Very Bleak Message To World’: South Africa Envoy Condemns Delhi Blast And Seeks Joint ActionThe laboratory with all the testing equipment and traces of various kinds of explosives was unearthed during the raid on Umer’s house. The information on Dr Umer’s house as well as the IED testing and bomb making laboratory installed there is said to have come during the questioning of the arrested doctors of the Faridabad-based Jaish module, most likely Muzammil Ganaie.As reported by TOI on Friday, Dr Umer and two other doctors accused in the ‘white collar’ terror case – Dr Muzammil and Dr Adeel Rather – were directly in touch with three Pakistani Jaish handlers Faisal, Hashim and Ukasha via encrypted messaging platform, Telegram. The handlers were passing on instructions, radicalisation videos and bomb-making DIY videos to the trio via Telegram chat. Agencies believe that Dr Umer was the bomb-making expert among the three, which is why he had set up a laboratory at his home. He would work there, mostly alone, to put together the IEDs as per instructions in the DIY videos and also test the chemicals to be employed as explosives and the triggering mechanisms to maximise the potency of the bomb being assembled.Two major batches of explosives, weighing 358 kg and 2,563 kg each, were recovered from two separate houses in Faridabad during raids between Nov 8 and 10. The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea to lift a seven-year-old stay on a CBI probe into tiger poaching in Corbett Tiger Reserve. The probe had suggested forest officials’ connivance with poachers. The CBI itself has sought vacation of the stay, citing preliminary findings of irregularities and cover-ups. An environmentalist argues the prolonged stay hinders dismantling poaching networks. NEW DELHI: It is a classic case of how Supreme Court does not follow its own rulings. While it has repeatedly held any stay order in criminal matters should not continue for an unduly long time, its stay order on a CBI probe into poaching of animals in Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) has been in operation for the last seven years. Now, the apex court has agreed to hear a plea filed by an environmentalist from Uttarakhand seeking lifting of stay to allow CBI to complete its probe which had suggested “connivance of forest officers/officials with poachers”. Interestingly, CBI has also filed an application for vacation of order in which it mentioned the findings of a preliminary inquiry conducted by it.In this case, HC had in Sept 4, 2018 ordered a CBI probe into all poaching cases in the state in the past five years and to find out the “complicity, involvement or collusion” of serving forest department officials in these incidents after the court was informed that 40 tigers and 272 leopards have died in the state in the last two-and-half years. But the HC order was stayed by SC on Oct 22 of the same year, when it passed an ex-parte order on an appeal filed by a retired principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) and chief wildlife warden of the state D S Khati.Appearing before a bench headed by CJI B R Gavai, advocate Govind Jee, representing environmentalist Atul Sati, mentioned the case and pleaded for early hearing. Agreeing with his plea, SC posted the hearing to Nov 17. The petitioner alleged HC passed the order after considering scientific reports submitted by Wildlife Institute of India and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, and the prolonged stay has effectively stymied chances of detecting and dismantling the transnational, as well as trans state network, which was behind the poaching of tigers.Records of the case show that CBI also filed an application in 2023 for vacation of the order, and also mentioned the findings of its one-month probe before the stay order was passed by SC. The agency said it found various irregularities, including a deliberate attempt made by forest officials to cover up the death of a tiger.Referring to a case in which meat and skin of tiger and leopard were recovered, CBI said, “During inquiry by CBI of this case, photocopy of case records, as made available by the forest department have been scrutinised and 38 persons including forest officials, private persons and accused persons have been examined. CBI inquiry suggests the connivance of forest officers/officials with poachers.” It said the guidelines issued by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) in respect of death were not being followed in Corbett.”During inquiry, prima-facie connivance of officers/officials of forest department of Uttarakhand has emerged in some cases. The court of additional sessions judge Shefali Barnala Tandon (of the Patiala House courts) was convened at her residence around 3 am on Friday to remand a person accused of money laundering, Swaraj Singh Yadav, in ED’s custody. Yadav, who is the promoter of Ocean Seven Buildtech Pvt Ltd, is accused of illegally selling PM Awas Yojana flats in Gurgaon in all-cash transactions.After a daylong search, Yadav was held by the agency before midnight on Thursday. ED’s move came in connection with the alleged laundering of more than Rs 222 crore of funds generated from illegal sale of apartments meant for the poor under PM Awas Yojana. These were sold at an inflated price of Rs 40-50 lakh each to new buyers by cheating the original allottees whose allotment was cancelled, with not even their deposits being refunded. The original cost of a flat was Rs 26.5 lakh.Realtor running ‘nationwide laundering scam’, says ED Using these funds, ED said, the accused acquired personal assets, including 500 acres at Ware village in Maharashtra, 100 acres on Pune-Alibag Road, Sai Rupa Resorts in Tirthan Valley in Himachal Pradesh and land in Boston (US), besides financial assets in the UK.”The search for the arrestee started at 6.55 am, and he has to be produced before the court within 24 hours of the search, as per the guidelines of Supreme Court and various high courts,” the ED submitted before the judge while producing the accused “at this odd hour” at her residence. The legal counsel of the accused was still on his way when the court began its proceedings at 3.05 am, and by the time the hearings from both the sides concluded, it was 6.30 am. The judge remanded the accused in ED’s custody till Nov 28, when he is to be produced again. Not taking a chance, the judge specifically instructed that the accused be brought before the court at 2 pm on that day.The ED accused Yadav of committing “a nationwide money laundering scam since 2006, duping thousands of buyers in Mumbai, Jaipur, Kotputli and Gurugram”. As per FIRs registered against him with the Delhi police, an estimated Rs 222 crore of homebuyers’ money was siphoned by the accused after layering them through a related “in-house construction agency”.”The concerted and accelerated liquidation of both personal and company-held assets by arrestee Swaraj Singh Yadav in the recent past strongly indicates his intent to dispose of the proceeds of crime and escape action under provisions of law. The investigation records confirm the urgent disposal of assets and liquidation of funds in anticipation of legal action. He had already sold a flat in Jalvayu Vihar in Gurugram, 40 acres of land in Borgaon, Maharashtra, and 15 acres in Jaipur,” the ED said.”This coincides with his wife Sunita Swaraj relocating to the US in Aug 2025,” the agency added and brought to the notice of the court the fact that the accused had transferred huge amounts to the US via a bank account of his wife’s in Bank of Baroda. At least two-three kg ammonium nitrate and fuel oil might also have been used along with other chemicals, which would have taken the bomb’s weight to 40-50kg, sources said.A large bag, presumably containing the improvised-explosive device, was kept on the rear seat of the i20 being driven by Dr Umar Un Nabi, who died in the blast, CCTV footage revealed earlier. The bag had occupied almost half of the rear seat, indicating the size of the IED. The impact of the blast was such that it was felt 50 metres underground and body parts were thrown in a 50-metre radius.Nicknamed ‘mother of satan’, TATP is extremely unstable, highly sensitive to shock, heat, friction and electrostatic discharge. However, it can help build “military-grade equivalent IED”, capable of impact amounting to almost 80% power of TNT (trinitrotoluene).If confirmed in the official detailed explosive report, which is yet to be submitted by National Security Guard and the forensics, it will add more clarity to the investigation, cops said. “It’s dangerous to handle in any quantity; accidental detonation during manufacturing or transportation is common,” said a senior security establishment officer.This would mean that bomb may not have needed a detonator and could have exploded due to heat or other factors. PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will resign Monday to clear the way for a new NDA govt, a senior JD(U) functionary said Saturday. Nitish is expected to chair the last cabinet meeting of the outgoing govt, then head to Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation to the governor.After returning, he will attend JD(U)’s meeting of its 85 newly elected legislators. A separate meeting of NDA legislators will follow, though time and venue are yet to be fixed. BJP, which has emerged as NDA’s largest bloc with 89 legislators, is likely to issue a formal statement on govt formation Sunday or Monday.Sources said NDA legislators will elect Nitish as their leader soon after BJP’s announcement. NEW DELHI: The BJP on Saturday accused the Congress of insulting the people’s mandate and looking for excuses to hide its failure, even as the opposition party charged the Election Commission with partisanship following its massive loss in the Bihar election.The attack from the party came on a day the Congress continued to be in the crosshairs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While speaking at a programme organised by natives of Bihar in Surat, Modi said that as Congress is unable to explain the reasons for the defeat to its allies or to its members, its top netas have chosen the easy way out by blaming EVMs, SIR and EC. “They have found a way to make excuses. This excuse may keep them afloat for a while, but their cadre will not accept them for long,” the PM said. BJP’s chief spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni said Congress brass is incapable of introspection despite suffering repeated poll losses and credited the people’s trust in the governing alliance’s policies and programmes for its big win. Citing excuses to explain away its failures was a tradition in Congress, he said. BJP also played up the rumblings within the opposition camp to mock Congress for blaming the Election Commission.While BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh slammed the party for defaming the country’s democratic process and its institutions like EC, its IT department head Amit Malviya highlighted dissenting voices within the opposition alliance to say that the knives are out in Mahagathbandhan after its latest drubbing.Malviya said, “And now, senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad has accused Krishna Allavaru, Rahul Gandhi’s pointsman in Bihar, of disrespecting senior leaders and selling Congress tickets for cash… Mahagathbandhan was never about principles – it was an opportunistic stitch-up held together by corruption and self-interest.” He added, “The people of Bihar saw through it.
