NEW DELHI: Terming illegal immigration as the root cause of demographic changes in border districts, Union home minister Amit Shah Thursday reiterated Modi govt’s resolve to tackle and address such unnatural demographic shifts with a ruthless approach, while declaring that a robust mechanism will be put in place to make the country infiltration-free.Addressing the land border districts’ SPs conference here, a first-of-its-kind initiative, Shah said a ‘Demography Mission’ has already been tasked to study demographic changes, identify the abnormal factors behind them and recommend measures to prevent these changes in future. “A secure border, a prosperous border region and a vigilant society together are the three key elements that make the borders secure,” he stated.Shah underlined that Modi govt had successfully eliminated the three key security problems plaguing the country for almost four decades – terrorism in J&K, insurgency in the North-East, and Left-wing extremism – and was now focused on ending the narcotics problem, “which has inflicted serious damage on the country”, within next three years.The border SPs conference, attended by DGPs of border states, collectors or/and SPs of 119 border districts, director of Intelligence Bureau and heads of border guarding forces, discussed all issues regarding border security, including infiltration, proxy war, smart border solutions, illegal immigration and its impact on demography of border districts, drone and narcotics threat, and border development initiatives with community engagement in border villages.Shah said Thursday’s deliberations on issues relating to border security will be given an institutional shape and an integrated, foolproof and quadrangular border security policy drawn up, with Centre, states, district administrations and border communities as joint stakeholders. Narendra Modi and Anthony Albanese PM Narendra Modi Thursday praised the contribution of Indians living abroad as “sugar in milk”, saying they make their adopted land sweeter with their presence.Addressing a diaspora crowd at a community event in Melbourne in the presence of his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, Modi said Indians had made the city more vibrant with their culture. And while they had stayed connected to their roots, they had also been working day and night for the development of their adopted country, he added.”As sugar melts in milk and makes it sweeter, we Indians imbue the world with the colour of love,” he said.Modi drew cheers from the audience when he spoke about Operation Sindoor and, a day after the deal to sell Brahmos missiles to Indonesia, he said the world was witnessing the capability and credibility of India’s defence platform.”You must have seen the demo during Operation Sindoor. Blasts occurred at the shelters of terrorists but their echoes were heard across the world. You must have felt proud of the blows at the terror camps,” he said.Asserting that India was setting big goals, Modi said the country was driven by the spirit of “grow more, achieve more”. NEW DELHI: ED has filed a chargesheet against former Punjab cabinet minister and AAP neta Sanjeev Arora, accusing him of being the kingpin of a fake iPhone export scam where consignments were falsely shown to have been sent to Dubai using bogus purchase bills and export documents to launder Rs 103 crore.Arora has been in judicial custody since his arrest by ED on May 9. His bail plea has been rejected by a Gurgaon court and an appeal is pending before Punjab and Haryana HC.The prosecution complaint, filed before a special court in Gurgaon on July 6, is learned to have details of how around Rs 100 crore was allegedly passed off as money received from Dubai for export of iPhones. It consisted of “export remittance” of Rs 87 crore and Rs 16 crore in IGST and duty drawback refund.The agency has alleged that “sham export transactions” were structured through fictitious procurement, related overseas buyers and circular fund movement. The total quantum of alleged iPhone sales has been estimated at over Rs 150 crore, of which over Rs 100 crore worth were exported to a Dubai-based company which is an investor in Arora’s realty firm, sources said.ED has attached assets linked to the AAP politician and his realty firm, Hampton Sky Realty Ltd, worth over Rs 55 crore. This includes bank accounts, fixed deposits, land, commercial premises and residential apartments in Ludhiana, Gurgaon and Chandigarh. An account in ICICI Bank that received over Rs 100 crore of export proceeds has Arora as its signatory, says the chargesheet.The agency has made Arora accused No. 1 in its chargesheet. The probe is based on an FIR registered against him and Hampton Sky Realty Ltd by Udyog Vihar police in Gurgaon on April 18. Searches have been conducted on premises linked to the former minister and associated entities.Also being probed are two Dubai-based firms, Fortbel Telecom FZCO and Dragon Global FZCO, which had allegedly received the iPhone consignments and made remittances to Arora’s firm in India.A senior official said ED’s investigation revealed that the purchase of iPhones was made by “non-existent, shell, dummy, or financially incapable supplier entities”. These shell entities allegedly generated bogus invoices without actual supply of goods. But if your job keeps you glued to a chair for eight to 10 hours, that workout alone may not be enough.A study published in PLOS Medicine has found that prolonged sitting is associated with a higher risk of developing and dying from cancer, even among people who meet recommended physical activity levels.Tracking more than 91,000 adults for over 12 years, researchers found that every additional hour of sitting continuously for more than 30 minutes was associated with about a 10% higher risk of dying from cancer. Replacing sitting with physical activity was linked to a lower risk.”Regular exercise remains essential, but it should be combined with frequent movement throughout the day. Allows Headmistress’ Prosecution For Not Informing Cops Of Rape Plaint NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Thursday ruled that any person who has knowledge that an offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act has been committed but fails to report it to the police is liable for punishment under the law, and allowed prosecution of the headmistress of a school who did not inform the police despite a student telling her that she had been raped.Noting that the word “knowledge” has not been defined under the Pocso Act, a bench of Justices Manoj Misra and K V Viswanathan said the words “has knowledge that such an offence has been committed” cannot be limited to direct knowledge of the commission of the offence, but would include awareness of its commission based on direct information received from the victim.”A conjoint reading of Section 19 and Section 21 of the Pocso Act, inter alia, indicates that if any person has knowledge that an offence has been committed under the Act, it is the mandate of law to provide such information to the Special Juvenile Police Unit or the local police. If such person, other than a child, fails to report, such person is liable to punishment under Section 21,” the bench said.”Thus, in our view, if we construe the expression ‘knowledge’ as something which a person knows on the basis of his own senses, and exclude knowledge based on receipt of credible information, the purpose of the Pocso Act would stand defeated. We say so because the purpose of the Act is not only to punish the offender but also to protect a child from sexual offences. Besides, it is a matter of common understanding that sexual offences are rarely committed in public gaze. These offences usually occur in the confines of secrecy,” the court said.”For the purposes of the Act, when a child victim reports to a person that he or she has been subjected to an offence, or is likely to be subjected to an offence, punishable under the Act, it can safely be concluded that the person to whom such information is provided by the child victim has knowledge that such an offence has been committed or is likely to be committed,” the bench added.In the case before it, the child victim had disclosed information about the incident directly to four persons: her elder sister, a friend and the head girl (YS) of the institution, all of them minors, and the headmistress of the school. The headmistress examined her private parts but rejected her complaint. A few months later, the victim’s parents came to know about the incident, following which an FIR was lodged.As three of the four persons who had knowledge of the incident were minors and could not be prosecuted under the law, the court allowed prosecution only of the headmistress for failing to report the case to the police.Get the latest India news and live updates. Narendra Modi and Anthony Albanese Amid the fresh flare-up in West Asia, PM Narendra Modi and his counterpart Anthony Albanese expressed concern over renewed escalation of tensions and called upon all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate, and ensure protection of civilians along with uninterrupted flow of energy. Both leaders also reinforced their commitment to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific as Albanese raised with Modi concerns related to China’s submarine-launched ballistic missile test (SLBM) this week. The 3rd India-Australia summit saw a declaration of intent by the 2 sides to work together for energy security, open markets and rules-based trade in the face of geopolitical tensions. According to the summit joint statement, the leaders reiterated the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, and adherence to international law to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict. In a separate joint statement on energy security, they shared deep concern over prolonged impact of disruptions on energy, resources and other important commodities’ supply chains and prices. In the Indo-Pacific, the leaders reiterated their commitment to an open and rules-based order. The joint did not mention the East or South China Sea but underlined the importance of adhering to international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), freedom of navigation and overflight. The leaders strongly opposed any “destabilising or unilateral action to change the status quo and undermine regional peace and stability”. India and Australia also underlined the importance of the Quad as a partnership for practical and concrete outcomes in the Indo-Pacific. However, unlike in the joint statement issued by India and Japan earlier this month after a summit meeting, there was no explicit call for an early convening of the Quad leaders’ summit. The summit, which India planned to host last year, still remains in limbo because of uncertainty surrounding President Donald Trump’s travel plans. While the leaders steered clear of any rhetoric targeting China in their public remarks, Albanese discussed with Modi the SLBM test by Beijing earlier this week. The Australian PM had earlier described the test as a provocative act that could destabilise the Pacific Islands region. Admitting that Australia expressed concern over the issue in the meeting, foreign secretary Vikram Misri said that Modi in his response underlined the significance of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. “Australia and India have shared interests and shared objectives in this regard and that we would continue to not only exchange our perspectives on this but also intensify our cooperation in various areas to ensure that the peace and security and stability in the Indo-Pacific area is continued to be maintained,” said the foreign secretary, outlining Modi’s response. In his media statement after the meeting, Modi said that the Indo-Pacific is not merely a confluence of two oceans but also symbolizes the shared aspirations of like-minded democracies such as India and Australia. The joint did not mention the East or South China Sea but underlined the importance of adhering to international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), freedom of navigation and overflight. The leaders strongly opposed any “destabilising or unilateral action to change the status quo and undermine regional peace and stability”. India and Australia also underlined the importance of the Quad as a partnership for practical and concrete outcomes in the Indo-Pacific. However, unlike in the joint statement issued by India and Japan earlier this month after a summit meeting, there was no explicit call for an early convening of the Quad leaders’ summit. The summit, which India planned to host last year, still remains in limbo because of uncertainty surrounding President Donald Trump’s travel plans. While the leaders steered clear of any rhetoric targeting China in their public remarks, Albanese discussed with Modi the SLBM test by Beijing earlier this week. The Australian PM had earlier described the test as a provocative act that could destabilise the Pacific Islands region. Admitting that Australia expressed concern over the issue in the meeting, foreign secretary Vikram Misri said that Modi in his response underlined the significance of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. “Australia and India have shared interests and shared objectives in this regard and that we would continue to not only exchange our perspectives on this but also intensify our cooperation in various areas to ensure that the peace and security and stability in the Indo-Pacific area is continued to be maintained,” said the foreign secretary, outlining Modi’s response. He also sought permission to be provided with food items so that he can cook his own meals.The plea came up for hearing before Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma of the Patiala House Court on Thursday. The court granted time to the jail authorities to file their reply after issuing notice to them and the NIA. The matter has now been listed for hearing on July 21.VanDyke is currently lodged in Tihar Jail after being arrested by the NIA. His judicial custody has been extended till August 1.Represented by advocates Rohit Dandriyal and Rohit Gour, VanDyke claimed that he has not eaten the food served in jail since May 6 and has lost around 14 kilograms.According to the application, he is a US citizen who is not accustomed to the diet generally served in Indian prisons, which he described as predominantly spicy, oily, deep-fried and greasy.The plea stated that regular consumption of such food has caused severe physical discomfort and adversely affected his health. It claimed that despite wanting to maintain proper nutrition, he has been unable to eat the prison meals, resulting in what the application described as a continuing hunger strike.The application further alleged that his prolonged inability to consume the food provided in jail has led to a serious decline in his health. ‘We are moving to SC’: Rebel MLA Ritabrata Banerjee after Calcutta HC allows TMC to operate frozen bank accounts NEW DELHI: Rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Ritabrata Banerjee on Thursday said his faction will approach the Supreme Court by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) after the Calcutta high court allowed the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC to temporarily operate three of its frozen bank accounts under the supervision of a special officer.The Calcutta high court earlier permitted the TMC to use the accounts only for routine party expenses and legal costs until September 30, 2026. The accounts had been frozen as part of a money laundering probe linked to alleged financial irregularities involving party funds. On the ground, there are no funds to fight legal cases for party workers, yet this ‘new Natwarlal’ is spending Rs 160 crore to acquire aircraft and then paying rent to the very entity involved in the purchase. The money for the purchase comes from the party’s account, and the rental payments also come from the party’s account. This is clearly a case of money laundering,” Banerjee alleged.He added that he would travel to Delhi to submit a complaint to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).”Yes, I will go to Delhi. It is not just this issue; there are two or three other matters as well. I will write to the ED stating that this matter needs to be investigated,” he said.The controversy relates to three TMC bank accounts that were frozen after a complaint by Ritabrata’s rival faction. The ED has alleged that around Rs 160 crore of party funds were laundered through Kolkata-based Carewell Aviation to purchase an Embraer Legacy 600 aircraft and an Agusta helicopter, which were later rented back to the TMC. The agency has also alleged that a .7 million unsecured loan from a Cayman Islands entity was used to help finance the helicopter purchase.While allowing limited access to the accounts, the Calcutta high court appointed retired judge Justice Subrata Talukdar as a special officer to supervise all withdrawals.The matter will next be heard on September 21, when the investigating agencies are expected to submit a progress report. Congress on Thursday intensified its offensive over the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent even as the BJP-RSS establishment was allegedly trying to protect the “big crocodiles” behind the scandal. The party also raised questions over alleged irregularities in land purchases and construction linked to the temple.Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, alleged that attempts were being made to shield those responsible by targeting lower-level employees.“After the theft of offerings at the Lord Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya came to light, several major irregularities related to land purchase and construction have also surfaced.Despite all this, Prime Minister Modi remains silent, and the entire BJP-RSS apparatus is attempting to protect the big crocodiles by taking action against a few small employees.Ramesh said his party colleague, Surendra Rajput, had made several fresh allegations regarding the alleged large-scale loot in Ayodhya during a press conference at the Congress headquarters.Addressing the press conference, Congress leader Surinder Rajput alleged that the prime minister could not distance himself from what he described as the Ram temple “donation-theft case”, saying it was PM Modi who had constituted the trust overseeing the shrine’s management.He also questioned the composition of the trust and the involvement of individuals linked to a particular ideology.“In the donation-embezzlement issue, a few small fish are being used as bait to protect the big fish. In this entire matter, the needle of suspicion also points towards the RSS and the VHP, and we demand answers from them,” Rajput said.Referring to the prime minister’s role in the temple project, Rajput said Modi had laid the foundation stone and later performed the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony.“When a big sin of stealing the offerings has been committed, Prime Minister Modi should clarify. The Ram temple is a matter of faith for crores of people and the prime minister, the RSS and the VHP cannot escape responsibility,” he said, according to news agency PTI.Rajput further questioned why the temple trust had been kept outside the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.“If the trust is entirely religious, why were only people connected to the BJP-RSS placed in it? The prime minister will have to answer these questions,” he said.The Congress’ remarks come amid allegations of financial irregularities linked to the Ram temple trust. Himachal: Union Minister Nadda to lay foundation stone of ICMR Centre for High Altitude Medicine at Keylong NEW DELHI: India is set to get its first dedicated research centre for high-altitude medicine as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) establishes a specialised facility in Himachal Pradesh to tackle the unique health challenges faced by people living in the Himalayan region.Union Health Minister J P Nadda will lay the foundation stone of the ICMR Centre for High Altitude Medicine and Public Health Research at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district on July 11. The facility will upgrade ICMR’s existing field station into a multidisciplinary research hub focused on diseases and healthcare challenges associated with high-altitude living.Scientists at the centre will study altitude physiology and acclimatisation, mountain medicine, climate-sensitive diseases, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, mental health, occupational health and disaster medicine. The institute will also evaluate how climate change is affecting disease patterns and healthcare delivery in fragile Himalayan ecosystems.One of the centre’s key objectives will be to develop healthcare solutions for remote mountain communities using telemedicine, digital health platforms, drone-based delivery of medicines and diagnostics, and real-time disease surveillance.Located in the strategically important border district of Lahaul and Spiti, the centre will provide year-round access to high-altitude and tribal populations, enabling long-term studies on the health effects of altitude, extreme weather and environmental change. Officials said the evidence generated is expected to help shape policies on tribal health, disaster preparedness and climate-resilient healthcare.The centre will collaborate with the Armed Forces Medical Services, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Himachal Pradesh government and academic institutions in India and abroad to undertake research on issues ranging from high-altitude illnesses to emergency medical response in mountainous terrain.Health officials said the facility is expected to strengthen India’s capacity in high-altitude biomedical research at a time when climate change, increasing tourism and expanding infrastructure in the Himalayan region are creating new public health challenges.The foundation stone ceremony will also include a scientific exhibition, launch of the centre’s website, release of a commemorative postal special cover and plantation of native Himalayan saplings under the Green ICMR Campus initiative.Get the latest India news and live updates. Himachal: Union Minister Nadda to lay foundation stone of ICMR Centre for High Altitude Medicine at Keylong NEW DELHI: India is set to get its first dedicated research centre for high-altitude medicine as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) establishes a specialised facility in Himachal Pradesh to tackle the unique health challenges faced by people living in the Himalayan region.Union Health Minister J P Nadda will lay the foundation stone of the ICMR Centre for High Altitude Medicine and Public Health Research at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district on July 11. The facility will upgrade ICMR’s existing field station into a multidisciplinary research hub focused on diseases and healthcare challenges associated with high-altitude living.Scientists at the centre will study altitude physiology and acclimatisation, mountain medicine, climate-sensitive diseases, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, mental health, occupational health and disaster medicine. The institute will also evaluate how climate change is affecting disease patterns and healthcare delivery in fragile Himalayan ecosystems.One of the centre’s key objectives will be to develop healthcare solutions for remote mountain communities using telemedicine, digital health platforms, drone-based delivery of medicines and diagnostics, and real-time disease surveillance.Located in the strategically important border district of Lahaul and Spiti, the centre will provide year-round access to high-altitude and tribal populations, enabling long-term studies on the health effects of altitude, extreme weather and environmental change. Officials said the evidence generated is expected to help shape policies on tribal health, disaster preparedness and climate-resilient healthcare.The centre will collaborate with the Armed Forces Medical Services, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Himachal Pradesh government and academic institutions in India and abroad to undertake research on issues ranging from high-altitude illnesses to emergency medical response in mountainous terrain.Health officials said the facility is expected to strengthen India’s capacity in high-altitude biomedical research at a time when climate change, increasing tourism and expanding infrastructure in the Himalayan region are creating new public health challenges.The foundation stone ceremony will also include a scientific exhibition, launch of the centre’s website, release of a commemorative postal special cover and plantation of native Himalayan saplings under the Green ICMR Campus initiative.Get the latest India news and live updates. Who will be AAP’s principal challenger? NEW DELHI: Who will be the principal challenger to Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party in the 2027 assembly elections in Punjab?On paper, the answer should be Congress. After all, it is the main opposition party in the state, with 18 seats in the assembly, followed by the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP in terms of numbers. But a closer look at how the three parties are preparing for the electoral battle suggests the winds may be changing.The BJP, despite having the weakest presence in Punjab at the moment, has made the strongest push so far. The party has dropped enough signals that it intends to go all out in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP president Nitin Nabin and Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini have all already visited Punjab to energise the cadre and reach out to voters. The Prime Minister is scheduled to make another visit to the state later this month and announce mega development projects to reinforce the party’s intent.The Congress should have been best placed to claim the opposition space after its 2024 Lok Sabha performance, but the grand old party is still caught in a web of internal churn and is busy setting its house in order. The SAD, once Punjab’s dominant political force, is trying to rebuild after years of decline. AAP is the party in power, but it will enter the 2027 poll battle with the burden of defending its record in office.That leaves Punjab with a political contest within the electoral contest: before the state decides who forms the next government, the opposition camp has to compete to decide who will lead the fight against AAP.Congress: Strong on paper, split on groundOf the three contenders in the opposition space, it is the Congress which has the numbers, the organisational strength and also the backing of history to claim the opposition space and also perhaps power in Punjab. But to ensure that, the party will first have to settle the battle within its own house. The decision to retain Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as state president while appointing Charanjit Singh Channi as campaign committee chief has triggered an internal friction, much to the delight of the BJP which is leaving no stone unturned to highlight the factionalism within the Punjab Congress. Several Punjab Congress leaders have thrown their weight behind Channi and have asked the high command to reconsider its leadership choices in the state.While AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel has asserted that Congress remains “the only option” for the people of the state, the fact that Channi skipped a key Punjab Congress meeting called by him was hard to miss. Apart from Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also skipped the meeting.Warring tried to play down crisis in the state unitWarring tried to play down their absence, saying both Channi and Randhawa had informed the party that they were out of town and would be available after a couple of days. Channi, along with a group of loyalists, is reportedly in Delhi to raise concerns over the recent reshuffle of the party’s state unit.Baghel is currently on a five-day tour of Punjab, during which he is scheduled to hold meetings with senior leaders, office-bearers and party workers as part of the Congress’ organisational strengthening exercise. But how much of this will help to defuse the crisis only time will tell.For now, Congress is trying to contain the damage. Baghel has started meeting state leaders. The immediate challenge for the high command is to calm the Channi camp without upsetting Warring. The party has not announced any changes yet, but leaders close to Channi want their concerns to be heard by the central leadership.Baghel has made it clear that ‘no one is above the party high command’Until then, Congress will have to manage two battles at once: projecting unity against AAP in Punjab, and preventing the leadership tussle from becoming big enough to give the BJP an opening.BJP playbook in actionThe BJP, which already has 23 states in its kitty, has dropped enough hints that it is going for the kill in Punjab this time. The saffron party’s tried, tested and templated three-fold strategy for winning states is already in motion. The first is “absorption through defection politics”, which includes importing established leaders from other parties to make up for weak organisational strength. The second is to ambush the ruling party by aggressively highlighting its failings and exploiting its faultlines. The third is to amplify the benefits of a double-engine government for the state’s development by promising a host of central support and projects.All three strategies are in play in Punjab.The first round of leaders was “imported” from the Congress during and after the 2022 assembly elections. The second round of defections was from AAP, led by Kejriwal’s once-trusted aide Raghav Chadha, who along with six other MPs is now part of the BJP camp. As the elections approach, this list is likely to grow longer.The BJP has been unrelenting in its attacks on the AAP government, with all top leaders chipping in to build and sustain pressure. From drugs to the sacrilege video row and corruption, the list is long.Finally, the third component of the BJP’s playbook is also in action: promises of a better and more secure future for Punjab, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself leading this drive. Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has announced that PM Modi will visit Punjab this month to inaugurate several major development projects. He further said the Union government has ensured that there is no shortage of funds for Punjab’s development, and that significant investments are being made in infrastructure, connectivity and public welfare sectors.“The people of Punjab are witnessing the difference between a government focused on development and an opposition consumed by internal adjustments and distribution of posts,” Bittu said in a statement.This will be the PM’s second visit to the state. In February, PM Modi had visited Punjab to mark the 649th Birth Anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji. During the trip, he renamed Adampur Airport to Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur. He also inaugurated the new Terminal Building at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana.Clearly, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to implement its Punjab plan, and that should keep both AAP and Congress worried.SAD: Old force, shrinking spaceAs for the Shiromani Akali Dal which dominated state politics for long, the party has been pushed to the corner after snapping ties with the BJP. The party and its leaders have been active on the ground, missing no opportunity to attack the Bhagwant Mann government and mobilising cadres.But SAD’s challenge is that the political space it once occupied is now crowded. AAP has eaten into its rural and Sikh support base, Congress remains the larger opposition force on paper, and the BJP is trying to expand after breaking out of its old junior-partner role.AAP confidence of winThe possibility of a renewed SAD-BJP alliance also appears unlikely. The BJP has already dismissed speculation of a possible tie-up, with Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri making it clear that the party would never accept the role of a “younger brother” or junior partner.In the 2022 assembly polls, the BJP won two seats while SAD recorded its worst-ever electoral performance, winning just three. For SAD, 2027 is less about defeating AAP. NEW DELHI: Southwest (summer) monsoon covered the entire country by advancing into remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab on Thursday, one day after the normal date (July 8) of covering entire India, said IMD.It took 36 days for the monsoon to cover the entire country after making a three-day delayed onset over Kerala on June 4. Normally, the monsoon covers the entire India in 38 days (June 1-July 8).
