COIMBATORE: The 32nd Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore will be held on February 15th, South Kailaya Bhakti Peravai said. Defence minister Rajnath Singh will be the special guest at the event, while several central ministers, film stars and other celebrities will participate in the celebrations alongside lakhs of devotees.The Mahashivaratri festival at Isha will be celebrated from 6 pm on the 15th, before Adiyogi, and will continue until 6 am the next morning.The festival, which will be held with Sadhguru in front of Adiyogi, will feature powerful meditations, mantra chanting, Yogeshwara Linga Maha Abhishekam, and musical performances by top artists.In a first, this year on Mahashivratri, Sadhguru Adiyogi will dedicate the spiritual process of ‘Maha Abhishekam’ to the previously installed Yogeshwara Linga.The Abhishekam ceremony will include specific mantra chanting and dedications to enhance the blessings of the Yogeshwara Linga.The general public can participate in this Maha Abhishekam for free by registering the necessary information on the online platform.The highlight of the Isha Mahashivaratri festival will be the powerful meditations led by Sadhguru during the midnight Sandhya and Brahmamukhurtha hours.In our Indian spiritual tradition, the day of Shivaratri, which falls in the month of Masi, is celebrated as Mahashivaratri. I don’t know how these porcupines came to Kashmir, but now they are here and destroying crops,” he said.For many farmers, losses are far steeper. Some report up to 80% damage to fields.In Khrew — a saffron-growing pocket roughly 20km southeast of Srinagar within Pampore — output has nearly vanished. “Khrew once contributed around 4,000kg to the total yield of 22,000kg, but fields there now lie largely unproductive,” said Masoodi, who hails from the area.Wildlife experts and officials trace the surge to a mix of ecological shifts. Deforestation has shrunk natural habitats, pushing porcupines towards cultivated land. Declining predator numbers — especially leopards — have removed a key check on their population. Warmer winters have extended foraging windows, allowing rodents to remain active longer through the year.Yet control options remain limited. As a protected species under wildlife law, porcupines cannot be killed, turning crop damage into a simmering human-animal conflict.Rana’s advisory to farmers reads like a defensive manual: clear caves and undergrowth that shelter rodents, erect mesh barriers buried 1.5m deep to block burrowing, paint tree trunks white or wrap them in gunny sacks to deter nocturnal movement, spray pepper-based organic repellents, place naphthalene near dens.Priority should go to worst-hit plots, he said.Farmers cannot shoulder that burden alone, Masoodi countered. “A roadmap has been outlined, but who will implement it?” he asked. “People lack resources. Jaishankar with Iran Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi (File photo) NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar received a call on Sunday from Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi as the tensions in the Middle East continue. “Received a call from Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran. Discussed the present situation,” said Jaishankar. While the specific details of the call have not been released, the Iran Embassy in India also confirmed the call saying that the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the regional, international situation. “Seyed Abbas, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a phone conversation with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, discussing bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments,” said the Embassy on X.Before revealing the call with Araghchi, Jaishankar revealed conversations with various leaders from the Middle Eastern countries, namely- UAE deputy PM, FM Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar PM Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Jaishankar with Iran Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi (File photo) NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar received a call on Sunday from Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi as the tensions in the Middle East continue. “Received a call from Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran. Discussed the present situation,” said Jaishankar. While the specific details of the call have not been released, the Iran Embassy in India also confirmed the call saying that the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the regional, international situation. “Seyed Abbas, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a phone conversation with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, discussing bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments,” said the Embassy on X.Before revealing the call with Araghchi, Jaishankar revealed conversations with various leaders from the Middle Eastern countries, namely- UAE deputy PM, FM Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar PM Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Details of these calls haven; been released either.This comes as Iran faces a 48-hour deadline to open the Strait of Hormuz from Trump after which the US president has threatened to target the country’s power plants and bridges. Trump on Sunday also issued an ‘expletive’ warning to Iran. He threatened severe military action, saying that Tuesday would be “Power Plant Day and Bridge Day”. “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F*****’ Strait, you crazy b******s, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” said the US President on Truth Social.Later, in an interview with Fox News, Trump said that he sees a “good chance” that a deal can be made with Iran by Monday. Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, indicated to TOI that wartime disruptions are “mere speed bumps” and that Tehran’s “outlook on the future of Iran-India economic relations—even during wartime and especially in the post-war period—remains positive and expansive”. Fathali said, “Economic cooperation between our two nations is built on mutual interests and trust, and there is significant potential for further development.” Placing spotlight on the Chabahar Port project, he added it is a key project in this relationship. “In this regard, the Chabahar Port, as a strategic project, plays a key role in strengthening trade and transit links between Iran, India, and the region,” he said. Watch ‘Chabahar Port Symbol Of…’: Iranian Envoy Fathali’s Strong Message On India-Iran Partnership Positioned on Iran’s southeastern coast, Chabahar has long been New Delhi’s strategic bypass to landlocked Afghanistan and Central Asia, sidestepping Pakistan’s choke points, which does not allow overland transit for Indian goods. Al-Biruni, the 10th-century Persian scholar and writer, described the coastal area near the town of Chabahar, then known as Tiz or Tis, as the “entry point or beginning of coastal India” in his Kitab Tarikh Al-Hind (A History of India).For Tehran, the port is a lifeline to global reintegration, countering decades of Western isolation. Fathali, emphasizing its regional pivot, said: “We believe Chabahar can become a vital hub connecting Central Asia to open waters.”The Chabahar Port project dates back to the 1970s, when Iran’s last Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, proposed it as a deep-sea hub in the Gulf of Oman. During the Islamic revolution of 1979 in Iran and subsequent leadership transitions, work on the project slowed down. In the 1980s, when the Iran-Iraq War left Iran’s Persian Gulf routes vulnerable, Iran doubled up its focus to shift its trade and expand Chabahar.When India entered a conversation to develop the port around 2003, it mainly meant access to Afghanistan and Central Asia bypassing Pakistan. But it was also in response to the initial construction in Pakistan’s Gwadar, under Beijing’s flagship -billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).The partnership was formalised in 2015 with an MoU, with India committing up to 0 million during PM Narendra Modi’s 2016 visit to Tehran. The pact, renewed for 10 years in 2024 (earlier renewed annually), promises India a direct maritime-land corridor to Central Asia and beyond—vital for trade in minerals, grains, and energy.Through Chabahar, goods can be shipped from Indian ports to Iran and then transported by road and rail further inland, and into Russia, Central Asia, Europe.India has invested in port equipment and operations, while Iran has worked on expanding connectivity from the port to its internal transport network.
