Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has extended his support to students protesting in Delhi-NCR over the alleged NEET paper leak and the reported student suicides linked to the controversy. The ‘Indian’ actor shared a strongly worded message on X (formerly Twitter), calling for urgent reforms in the education system.
Kamal Haasan calls for education system reforms
In his post, Kamal opened up about what he described as the growing crisis in the education system. He suggested that the voices of students had not received the attention they deserved.Kamal wrote, “We should have listened when one child cried. Instead, we waited until far too many of our children died. A system where coaching replaces learning, anxiety replaces curiosity, and criminality replaces merit is rotten. A nation has failed when its children are met with barricades and batons instead of answers. “Apart from expressing solidarity with students, Kamal also addressed social activist Sonam Wangchuk in his message. He appealed to Wangchuk to end his fast, saying that the nation would continue to need his guidance in the days aheadHe added, ” @Wangchuk66, the nation will need your conscience for the journey ahead. Tovino Thomas also condemns alleged use of force
Earlier, Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas had also reacted to the ongoing protests. He criticised the alleged use of force against peaceful demonstrators and said young people demanding answers should not face repression.The ‘Lokah’ actor wrote, “Right and wrong may be relative, but this is certainly NOT the way to handle a peaceful protest. When the future generation of a nation speaks up, and their voices are met with repressive force, it is the future itself that is being stamped down. It is faith in democracy that is being drained away. What did these students do wrong? Did they destroy property? Did they resort to violence? What exactly did they do to deserve this treatment? To every person protesting for a just cause, peacefully, in any part of our country, I extend my wholehearted solidarity. The right to dissent is not a threat to democracy; in fact it is one of its foundations. And to anyone about to question my sense of nationalism, I know myself better than you do. This goes beyond politics, religion, and every other form of division. My politics is humanity. My belief is peace. Jai Hind .”Meanwhile, in response to Tovino Thomas’ post, followers of a popular party conducted protests outside the actor’s house, as reported by Manorama Online.
