TG Mohandas’ arrest was recorded on Monday morning after he was taken into custody. A court in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday granted bail to right-wing political commentator T G Mohandas, who was arrested over alleged remarks in a YouTube video concerning a student protest in New Delhi linked to the NEET paper leak.Mohandas was produced before the Thiruvananthapuram Additional Chief Judicial First Class Magistrate Court for remand proceedings. Judge Mithun Gopi G S granted him bail after hearing arguments from both sides.Police had taken Mohandas into custody from his residence in Mattancherry, Kochi, on Sunday evening. It argued that he was an influential person who could potentially influence witnesses or interfere with evidence if released.His defence opposed the request, citing his age and health condition. His lawyer also argued that all the offences invoked against him were bailable.After considering the submissions, the court granted Mohandas bail. NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday condemned the alleged use of force by the police against the protesting students in Jharkhand, saying that violence against a peaceful protest is wrong.During a press conference, Rahul said, “We condemn any violence against peacefully protesting students. It does not matter where it is happening. We condemn it, we are against it, we do not recommend it, and we do not support it.””As long as the protest remains peaceful, attacking that protest with violence is wrong,” he added.Earlier, in a social media post on X, the Congress leader said that students have a right to peaceful protest, and only dialogue can yield solutions.“Students have a right to peaceful protest, and only dialogue can yield solutions. The Jharkhand government must continue to hear these students out and resolve their issues immediately,” the leader of opposition (Lok Sabha) posted on X.This came as the BJP has repeatedly criticised Rahul over his “silence” on the students’ protest in Jharkhand, which is ruled by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), an ally of Congress in the INDIA bloc.The protest has been led by aspirants seeking greater transparency, accountability and fairness in the recruitment process.The students marched towards the assembly premises despite heightened security arrangements in the area as their protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations continued. NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday condemned the alleged use of force by the police against the protesting students in Jharkhand, saying that violence against a peaceful protest is wrong.During a press conference, Rahul said, “We condemn any violence against peacefully protesting students. It does not matter where it is happening. We condemn it, we are against it, we do not recommend it, and we do not support it.””As long as the protest remains peaceful, attacking that protest with violence is wrong,” he added.Earlier, in a social media post on X, the Congress leader said that students have a right to peaceful protest, and only dialogue can yield solutions.“Students have a right to peaceful protest, and only dialogue can yield solutions. The Jharkhand government must continue to hear these students out and resolve their issues immediately,” the leader of opposition (Lok Sabha) posted on X.This came as the BJP has repeatedly criticised Rahul over his “silence” on the students’ protest in Jharkhand, which is ruled by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), an ally of Congress in the INDIA bloc.The protest has been led by aspirants seeking greater transparency, accountability and fairness in the recruitment process.The students marched towards the assembly premises despite heightened security arrangements in the area as their protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations continued. Job aspirants clash with police during a protest near the Jharkhand assembly in Ranchi NEW DELHI: Thousands of job aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment examinations clashed with security forces on Monday after breaching multiple barricades and attempting to reach the state assembly. Police used water cannons, fired tear gas shells and carried out a lathi-charge as protesters moved towards the assembly premises.The protest, now in its 17th day, has intensified despite several rounds of talks between the government and demonstrators.The agitators are demanding cancellation of several recruitment exams, reforms in the JPSC and JSSC, and an independent probe into alleged irregularities.Protesters enter assembly premises; House adjournedSome protesters breached barricades and entered the Jharkhand assembly premises. Police used water cannons and fired several rounds of tear gas when the protesters reached the final barricade near Jagannathpur Temple, around 200 metres from the assembly.Despite the security action, a section of protesters managed to symbolically enter the assembly premises. Police also resorted to a lathi-charge after the demonstrators attempted to move forward.Several protesters claimed they were injured, including female students. The assembly was adjourned for the day in the afternoon.The march began around 10.30am from outside the old assembly building and coincided with chief minister Hemant Soren’s 51st birthday.Former JPSC chief L Khiangte arrested in recruitment exam caseJharkhand CID arrested former JPSC chairperson L Khiangte in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 20.Khiangte, a 1988-batch IAS officer, was appointed JPSC chairperson in February last year after retiring as the state’s chief secretary. He resigned from the post on July 22, saying he had voluntarily stepped down to facilitate an impartial investigation.The former JPSC chief had been questioned four times since July 28. His arrest came a day after all three JPSC members — Ajeeta Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda and Jamal Ahmad — resigned after being summoned by the CID for questioning.Rahul Gandhi condemns use of force against studentsCongress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the use of force against the protesting students, saying they had a right to peaceful protest.”The use of force against students protesting in Jharkhand is wrong,” Gandhi said, adding that only dialogue could resolve the issue.
