NEW DELHI: For men, type 2 diabetes more often sets the stage for heart and kidney disease; for women, the greater threat appears to be mental health problems, a new study tracking nearly 29,000 patients has found.The study, published in PLOS Medicine, followed 28,720 people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes between 2010 and 2020 using linked primary and secondary healthcare records in the UK. Researchers used a multi-state analysis to track the order and timing of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, end-stage renal disease and mental health conditions over a median follow-up of 6.8 years. Women were more likely than men to be diagnosed with a mental health condition.Women were more likely than men to be diagnosed with a mental health condition, including anxiety, depression or somatoform disorders, after developing diabetes. The study also found that women with diabetes may have a higher risk of problems related to memory, thinking and mental health.However, he cautioned that these problems may not be caused by diabetes alone, as cognitive and neuropsychiatric problems are generally more common in women. NHAI has made Automated and Intelligent Machine-Aided Construction compulsory for highway projects longer than 20 km (AI generated image) NEW DELHI: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has made Automated and Intelligent Machine-Aided Construction (AI-MC) compulsory for all highway projects longer than 20 km in length and costing over Rs 500 crore, in what’s a move aimed at addressing quality issues, which have become a major concern for govt.As per an NHAI circular issued on Friday, contractors will have to use the AI-MC system while building the road from the ground up and continuously across the entire spatial footprint of the project. The technology will be used for every major layer of highway, including embankment (raised earth foundation), subgrade (compacted soil base) and Granular Sub-Base (GSB) — the first layer of crushed stone, sand and gravel laid over the compacted soil before the road surface is built.The move is aimed at improving construction quality and ensuring roads are built with greater accuracy and uniformity. AI-MC is a construction technology with on-board computers and sensors on heavy machinery such as graders, pavers, compactors and dozers. Deployment of AI-MC aims to improve the quality, durability and transparency of road construction by replacing manual monitoring with technology-driven, real-time execution and quality control.TOI has learnt that though AI-MC was first deployed during construction of Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, it was not used on the entire stretch and at all grades.Officials said the move is designed to minimise human errors, ensure uniform construction standards and generate digital records of every stage of construction, from earthwork to pavement laying. “The new norms make it mandatory to share real-time data with NHAI officials. NHAI has made Automated and Intelligent Machine-Aided Construction compulsory for highway projects longer than 20 km (AI generated image) NEW DELHI: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has made Automated and Intelligent Machine-Aided Construction (AI-MC) compulsory for all highway projects longer than 20 km in length and costing over Rs 500 crore, in what’s a move aimed at addressing quality issues, which have become a major concern for govt.As per an NHAI circular issued on Friday, contractors will have to use the AI-MC system while building the road from the ground up and continuously across the entire spatial footprint of the project. The technology will be used for every major layer of highway, including embankment (raised earth foundation), subgrade (compacted soil base) and Granular Sub-Base (GSB) — the first layer of crushed stone, sand and gravel laid over the compacted soil before the road surface is built.The move is aimed at improving construction quality and ensuring roads are built with greater accuracy and uniformity. AI-MC is a construction technology with on-board computers and sensors on heavy machinery such as graders, pavers, compactors and dozers. Deployment of AI-MC aims to improve the quality, durability and transparency of road construction by replacing manual monitoring with technology-driven, real-time execution and quality control.TOI has learnt that though AI-MC was first deployed during construction of Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, it was not used on the entire stretch and at all grades.Officials said the move is designed to minimise human errors, ensure uniform construction standards and generate digital records of every stage of construction, from earthwork to pavement laying. “The new norms make it mandatory to share real-time data with NHAI officials. “Lucknow has BrahMos, smart roads and clean Gomti river”: CM Yogi highlights city’s transformation LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday highlighted Lucknow’s transformation into a city combining modern infrastructure and defence technologies with its cultural heritage, saying the state government is working to fully clean the Gomti River by the end of this year.Addressing an event in Lucknow, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “There are narrow lanes, but Lucknow also has smart roads and roads developed under the CM Grid scheme. Alongside the narrow streets, Lucknow has also received an outer ring road, similar to the Kisan Path. If Lucknow has the heritage of Uda Devi Pasi and Maharaja Bijli Pasi, it has also emerged as a centre for modern defence technologies such as BrahMos missiles, contributing to India’s defence needs and self-reliance.”The Chief Minister further said, “While the city is known for the exquisite Chikan embroidery craft of its traditional artisans, UNESCO has recently elevated its stature by recognising its cuisine and designating Lucknow as a “Heritage City of Gastronomy.” All of this has been made possible, realising the dreams of the revered Atal ji, under the guidance and inspiring leadership of Lucknow’s popular MP and the nation’s distinguished Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh…We are on track to fully clean the Gomti River by the end of this year. I extend my gratitude to the Central Command for its full cooperation with the state government in ensuring the river’s cleanliness and maintaining its continuous, pristine flow.
