. NEW DELHI: Murders in India dropped by 2.4% in 2024, the latest NCRB data says. Overall, 58.8 lakh cognisable crimes were registered in the country in 2024, a dip of 6% compared to 2023 in which 62.4 lakh cases were reported. Crimes against women declined by 1.5%, with 4.41 lakh cases reported in 2024 compared to 4.48 lakh in the previous year. The crime rate per lakh women population also dropped to 64.6 from 66.2. Crime rate registered per lakh population decreased from 448.3 in 2023 to 418.9 in 2024. Offences against the state witnessed a rise of 6.6% with 5,194 cases registered in 2024 compared to 4,873 cases in 2023, the data shows. As many as 4,053 cases were registered in 2024 by state anti-corruption bureaux as compared to 4,069 cases in 2023, showing a marginal decline of 0.4%.
