NEW DELHI: Government is likely to simplify the process for inter-state vehicle transfers by doing away with the cumbersome requirement for vehicle owners to obtain an NOC from the state where the vehicle is currently registered for submission to RTO of the new state. A high-level committee on non-financial regulatory reforms set up by NITI Aayog has recommended enabling inter-state vehicle transfers through an auto-generated clearance system.TOI has learnt that the road transport ministry is working on the proposal. The reform will bring huge relief to people who want to transfer their vehicles from one state to another.At present, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is mandatory for inter-state vehicle transfers to ensure that there are no pending road taxes, challans or other dues for such vehicles. Trump is destroying the whole world. Both of them call themselves good friends. Both good friends—you are bringing a bad name to the country, and people are suffering because of both of you,” Kharge claimed as per news agency PTI.Blaming Trump for rising fuel prices, he criticised the Modi government’s foreign policy, saying India had moved away from its long-standing non-aligned approach.”India followed a policy of non-alignment since Nehru’s time and maintained good relations with all countries. But that policy has been abandoned, and Modi, by going around calling everyone his friend and hugging them, has brought us to this situation.”Urging Congress workers to strengthen the party’s outreach, Kharge said they should educate people about issues affecting the country and help them understand which government would best serve their interests.”We (Congress workers) should keep in mind which government will be beneficial for the country and its people. We should inform people about it. Go to the people and make them understand what is happening,” he said.Kharge also revived allegations of financial irregularities linked to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, claiming that donations collected over the years for the temple’s construction had not been properly accounted for.Referring to contributions made during and after L K Advani’s Rath Yatra, he alleged that reports pointed to large-scale misuse of funds.”There are reports that about Rs 5,000 crore has been misused. The priests are robbing the money. Ram naam japna, paraya maal apna (chant the name of Ram and make someone else’s property your own). A loot has happened in the name of Ram. The temple was constructed to loot crores of rupees,” he alleged.Questioning the handling of temple donations, Kharge called for an investigation into where the money was going and whether those responsible should be held accountable.”The money from the donation boxes of temples is going somewhere. Whether his own people are behind it or someone else, it should be investigated,” he said.Responding to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s appeal to wait for a Special Investigation Team probe into allegations of missing donations and financial irregularities at the temple, Kharge questioned the need for a delay.”Why do you need 15 days when God is with you, the temple is with you, Modi is with you, and you are the CM? Put those who have looted in the name of Ram behind bars.”He further accused the BJP of exploiting religion for political gains while failing to uphold religious values.”People voted in the name of God, the Ram Mandir and religion. But are these people protecting religion? There is loot in the name of religion, and the poor are being oppressed in the name of religion,” he added.Turning to education, Kharge criticised the Centre over the conduct of the NEET examination and reiterated Rahul Gandhi’s demand that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resign.”They are unable to conduct examinations properly. Students and parents have been betrayed by the BJP and Pradhan. He has to resign,” he said.Kharge suggested that Karnataka’s CET model could be studied and proposed that Class 12 or PUC marks should also be factored into admissions alongside NEET scores.The Congress chief also targeted the Modi government over inflation and unemployment, alleging that it was focused on concentrating power and wealth among a select few while neglecting the needs of ordinary citizens.”This Modi government will fall one day, wait and watch. A big trouble is coming for Modi, wait and watch. They are not doing anything properly to help people, whether workers, women or students,” he claimed.He further alleged that changes to the education system and curriculum were being carried out in a way that misled students and promoted ideological influence in academic institutions.”They are doing it to retain political control,” he said, alleging that individuals linked to the RSS were being appointed to key educational positions.Reaffirming the Congress party’s commitment to constitutional values, Kharge said the Constitution remained crucial for protecting the rights of disadvantaged and marginalised sections of society.”The Constitution is needed for the poor and the downtrodden to protect their rights,” he added.Get the latest India news and live updates. Ram Temple (TNN) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations of embezzlement of funds at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has instructed trust and temple functionaries not to leave the city as the investigation enters a crucial phase.The directive was issued before the three-member SIT departed for Lucknow on Sunday, PTI reported.The Uttar Pradesh government constituted the SIT on June 13.The three-member panel comprises Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, Inspector General of Police Kiran S, and Finance Department Special Secretary Neel Ratan.Discrepancies found in donations recordsSources associated with the investigation claimed that one of the SIT’s key findings relates to the documentation and accounting of offerings made by devotees, including gold and silver jewellery, diamonds, and other precious stones.During questioning, several trust office-bearers were allegedly unable to provide satisfactory explanations.Maha Kumbh period under scannerThe SIT is also examining transactions and donation records from the Maha Kumbh Mela period in January and February 2025, when the temple witnessed an unprecedented surge in footfall.Sources claimed that nearly 10 lakh devotees visited the temple daily during the two-month period, with donation boxes reportedly filling up with cash within hours.Investigators are also scrutinising land purchases made by the temple trust in different phases, along with the procurement of construction materials used for the temple project.Get the latest India news and live updates. Sights as students appeared for re-exam NEW DELHI: More than a month after the NEET-UG 2026 examination was scrapped over allegations of a question paper leak, over 22 lakh medical aspirants had to return to examination halls across the country and abroad on Sunday for the re-exam. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the re-exam was held at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India and 14 international locations. With the credibility of the country’s largest medical entrance examination at stake, and massive uproar from political opposition and the public, authorities rolled out an unprecedented security framework involving biometric verification, CCTV surveillance, signal jammers, frisking personnel and multi-agency coordination. Police, paramilitary personnel, local administration officials, the Indian Air Force and the Department of Posts were involved in securing the transport and handling of confidential examination materials.Authorities also introduced candidate welfare measures, including drinking water, ORS packets, ambulances, shaded waiting areas for parents and additional rough sheets. Extra time was allotted to account for the extensive verification and entry formalities.Student reactionsInitial reactions from candidates suggested that the paper was largely moderate, although Physics emerged as the most challenging section for many aspirants.”The exam was quite moderate. Physics was quite lengthy, a little bit tougher than last time. Biology was good and Chemistry was moderate,” a candidate in Delhi told ANI.Another candidate told reporters, “It was a little harder than last time. It was my first attempt, I will get around 500 marks. The arrangements inside were fine.”From Srinagar, a candidate remarked, “The paper was very good. My preparation was very good, only Physics was a little difficult. Otherwise, it was good overall.”In Chennai, candidate Tarun said, “I did well but let’s see. In Delhi, a candidate alleged that she had reached the examination centre at 1.30 pm but was still not allowed to enter after authorities refused to reopen the gates.Similar scenes unfolded in Mumbai’s Parel area, where two candidates were denied entry after reaching the centre beyond the prescribed deadline, leading to protests outside the venue. In Bengaluru, four aspirants missed entry after arriving shortly after the cut-off time, with parents blaming heavy traffic caused by a Congress rally. According to eyewitnesses, centre authorities locked the gates at exactly 1:30 pm in accordance with NTA guidelines, leaving several candidates stranded outside.Candidates in Uttar Pradesh also reported difficulties after allegedly being directed to the wrong location by Google Maps. In another case, an aspirant said he lost crucial time after returning to retrieve a passport photograph required during the verification process. A separate controversy emerged in Gujarat, where students were reportedly asked to remove religious items such as sacred threads and kanthi necklaces during frisking. Dharmendra Pradhan spoke to parents of a seriously injured NEET-UG aspirant from Kolkata Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday spoke to parents of a seriously injured NEET-UG aspirant from Kolkata, who was able to appear for the re-exam following govt intervention and special medical arrangements at the centre.Shrishti Dubey, who was injured in a road accident on June 14 and is recovering from major surgery, wrote the examination in a separate room at with medical support and a standby ambulance stationed at the centre.Pradhan spoke to Shrishti’s father during the examination to enquire about her condition and wished her success. Thanking the minister, her father said, “It is all because of you that my daughter is giving the exam.”Her mother said the family had almost lost hope of her appearing for the examination before doctors advised them to seek special permission from authorities. “We had given up hope that she would ever be able to give the exam. The doctors encouraged us to submit a special application seeking permission for her to appear in the exam in hospital attire and with medical attachments,” she said.Pradhan, in response Pradhan wished the family well and shared his belief that Shrishti would perform well and make her parents proud by becoming a doctor. “I will try and meet you when I come to Kolkata,” Pradhan told her Dubey over the phone.Get the latest India news and live updates.
