NEW DELHI: Airlines that fly to, from, and through the regions impacted by the US-Israeli strikes against Iran are now steering clear of the same and trying to find ways to evacuate their crew from there. Going ahead, flights between the west and India, among other places in the east, will now get longer and fuelling stops are likely for North America routes.When the combat operation in Iran began, hundreds of commercial flights were either overflying or just about to enter the impacted airspaces from Iran to Israel. Among them was Air India’s Delhi-Tel Aviv flight (AI 139) which was in Saudi airspace at that time. The airline asked the pilots to turn back & head to Mumbai. AI’s Chicago-Delhi flight (AI 126) was about to enter Iraq airspace and it instead turned towards Syria to take a longer route home. AI is now working to evacuate its crew from Tel Aviv. Principal secretary to PM PK Mishra NEW DELHI: India must increasingly build an “antifragile system” that emerges stronger through uncertainties and disruptions, principal secretary to PM, PK Mishra said on Saturday while highlighting that the nature of risks and vulnerability is changing. He also stressed on the need to “introspect and analyse” why all ideas and insights known and often talked about are not implemented and delivered on ground.Mishra’s observations at the golden jubilee celebrations of National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) are significant in the light of multiple global disruption since the Covid-19 pandemic, including the current West Asia conflict, that have impacted nations and the chronic governance issue of gap between ideas and implementation on ground.Country’s top bureaucrat said that disruptions are no longer isolated or temporary and they can cascade rapidly across sectors, institutions and economies. “This requires us to think differently about development itself where resilience must be understood as the capacity to anticipate, absorb, adapt, transform and increasingly build antifragile systems that emerge stronger through uncertainty and change,” Mishra said.He said that as cities remain at the forefront of climate related stresses, future urban development must focus on proactive planning, nature-based solutions, green infrastructure and sustainable urban systems to build resilient, inclusive and climate sensitive cities.Mishra added while traditional approaches often focus on ‘bouncing back’ after disruption, the emerging paradigm requires systems that can learn, adapt, and emerge stronger through disruption, moving towards bouncing forward and increasingly becoming antifragile systems. “The objective today is not only recovery but building stronger institutions, infrastructure and governance systems capable of managing future shocks and uncertainties,” he added.Highlighting how implementation of ideas remains a challenge, he said, “The issues of implementation and effective delivery of services need deeper research because we see people always talk about this can be done, this should be done but the question always is how it can be done, why it is not being done. I think these are some of the challenges which possibly should be the focus of research.”Urban affairs secretary Srinivas Katikithala said India’s journey towards a developed nation requires cities to be planned not only for growth, but also for resilience, sustainability and long-term adaptability.Get the latest India news and live updates. Representative image NEW DELHI: A bowling-themed birthday cake that had delighted three-year-old Reyaansh from Thane during a family celebration May 31 turned into a nightmare when the toddler unknowingly swallowed two metal wires hidden inside decorative cake toppers. The following day, which was his actual birthday, the family found itself in hospital instead of celebrating after scans revealed the pieces had travelled to the child’s intestine.For nearly 48 hours, Reyaansh’s family anxiously waited as doctors monitored the movement of the wires, fearing they could cause internal injury or require surgery. The objects were eventually excreted naturally, sparing the child an operation.Less than two weeks later, food regulator FSSAI has ordered an immediate halt to use of metallic pins, wires and similar materials in food products and packaging, citing the risk of accidental ingestion and injury.What FSSAI has prohibitedThe nationwide advisory, issued by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on June 12, follows reports of metallic pins and wires being found in cakes and attached to food packets. “There exists a significant risk that such pins may inadvertently be consumed by consumers, resulting in injury and adverse health consequences,” FSSAI said in its advisory.The order covers use of metallic pins, wires and similar materials for sealing, fastening, securing or packaging food items, including bakery products, sweet boxes, snack pouches, takeaway meals and other packaged foods.Food businesses have been directed to discontinue the practice with immediate effect and adopt safer alternatives for packaging and sealing. The regulator warned that non-compliance could invite penal action under provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and regulations framed under it.The advisory has been circulated to food business operators and food safety commissioners across states and UTs for enforcement.The move is expected to accelerate a shift towards heat-sealed packaging, adhesive seals and other food-safe fastening methods while reducing the risk of accidental ingestion of metallic objects.Get the latest India news and live updates.
