Mumbai: Auto and taxi drivers who learn Marathi will be issued a state govt certificate, and production of the certificate will be mandatory at the time of licence renewal, said transport minister Pratap Sarnaik on Tuesday after a meeting with heads of all 59 RTOs across Maharashtra.Sarnaik said facilities would be created at RTOs for drivers willing to learn Marathi. New Delhi: In fresh action against Anil Ambani and his Reliance group entities, ED on Tuesday said it has attached his family properties worth another Rs 3,035 crore, including a flat in Usha Kiran building in Mumbai and a farmhouse in Khandala (Pune), taking attachments to nearly Rs 20,000 crore in the ongoing money laundering case.The latest attachments have been made as part of ED’s investigation against Reliance Communications (RCom), which, the agency said, has defaulted over Rs 40,000 crore of bank loans, siphoning off public funds. “The provisional attachment under PMLA has been made to prevent dissipation of assets and to protect interests of banks and public,” ED said.While a spokesman for Anil Ambani claimed that the flat in Usha Kiran and the farmhouse in Khandala belong to his mother Kokilaben Ambani, ED has said the flat is registered in the name of Anil Ambani and the farmhouse in the name of Luna Trust and his son Jai Anshul Ambani. The agency said a land in Sanand, Ahmedabad, in the name of Mudra Foundation for Communications Research and Education (MICA), has been also attached.”Besides these, Rs 7.7 crore shares of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, held by RiseE Infinity Pvt Ltd – a group entity of Anil Ambani under the RiseE Trust umbrella, which is a private family trust of the members of Anil Ambani’s family – were also attached,” ED said.”Under Section 8 of PMLA, confiscated property would be restored to legitimate claimants who suffered loss, including victim banks. New Delhi: External affairs minister S Jaishankar held talks with visiting United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) president Annalena Baerbock on a range of issues, including AI’s implications and the West Asia conflict, on Tuesday.Jaishankar said in a post on X that he underscored during the discussion the need for reformed multilateralism that is reflective of today’s realities, particularly of the Global South, while thanking Baerbock for her leadership and contributions. Baerbock later said at a press conference that the world is witnessing growing geopolitical tensions, increasing fragmentation and pressure on the three UN pillars: peace and security, development and human rights. “Today, the United Nations, multilateralism and international law are not only under pressure, but under direct attack,” she said.”No country, regardless of its size or strength, can address today’s complex global challenges – such as climate change, global pandemics and the economic impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine or the closing of the Strait of Hormuz – on its own,” she said.Baerbock rejected US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace plan that envisages a permanent membership fee. “Because every country, no matter how big or small, how powerful or rich, has a seat at the table; because you will not find just peace for anybody in the world if you have to pay a fee to join it,” she said. New Delhi: India was fifth biggest military spender globally in 2025 and the country increased its military spending by 8.9% to .1 billion, according to a report released by arms watchdog group Sipri on Monday.The India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025 – which involved use of combat aircraft, drones and missiles – pushed up India’s military spending during the year, according to the report.”Pakistan’s military spending grew by 11% to .9 billion in 2025. The increase was largely due to new orders for aircraft and missiles placed with China in 2025 following the armed conflict with India in May, as well as payments for earlier procurement contracts nearing completion,” according to Sipri’s annual “Trends in World Military Expenditure” report.China, the world’s second largest military spender, increased its military spending by 7.4% to 6 billion. This was the 31st consecutive year-on-year increase as China continued its military modernisation drive.”A renewed campaign against corruption in military procurement does not appear to have constrained spending,” the report said.At 4 billion, military spending by the US was 7.5% lower in 2025 than in 2024. The drop was primarily because no new financial military assistance for Ukraine was approved during the year. New Delhi: India was fifth biggest military spender globally in 2025 and the country increased its military spending by 8.9% to $92.1 billion, according to a report released by arms watchdog group Sipri on Monday.The India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025 – which involved use of combat aircraft, drones and missiles – pushed up India’s military spending during the year, according to the report.”Pakistan’s military spending grew by 11% to $11.9 billion in 2025. The increase was largely due to new orders for aircraft and missiles placed with China in 2025 following the armed conflict with India in May, as well as payments for earlier procurement contracts nearing completion,” according to Sipri’s annual “Trends in World Military Expenditure” report.China, the world’s second largest military spender, increased its military spending by 7.4% to $336 billion. This was the 31st consecutive year-on-year increase as China continued its military modernisation drive.”A renewed campaign against corruption in military procurement does not appear to have constrained spending,” the report said.At $954 billion, military spending by the US was 7.5% lower in 2025 than in 2024. The drop was primarily because no new financial military assistance for Ukraine was approved during the year.
