Sopore Police conducts searches at 26 locations in UAPA case against Jamaat-e-Islami SRINAGAR: Police searched 26 locations across Sopore in north Kashmir on Sunday in a coordinated crackdown on banned Jamaat-e-Islami J&K, seizing documents, literature and electronic devices as part of a probe into its alleged links to terrorist outfits and youth radicalisation.The search targeted residential and other premises linked to Jamaat-e-Islami J&K members and activists. No arrest was reported till filing of this report. “The operation was conducted in accordance with due legal procedure and prescribed protocols,” police said.Police said the seized material was being examined to establish further linkages and activities connected with the proscribed organisation. The operation was part of efforts to dismantle networks linked to banned organisations, separatist activities and terrorist funding.Distinct from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Jamaat-e-Islami J&K has a history tied to regional separatism and has long had a support base in Sopore. Union government first declared it an “unlawful association” in Feb 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. NEW DELHI: Jharkhand Police on Sunday said it was prepared for the planned Assembly march by JPSC-JSSC aspirants in Ranchi, assuring protesters that they would not face action if the demonstration remained peaceful.The assurance came hours after a second round of talks between student representatives and the state government, with the administration agreeing to consider some of their key demands but failing to resolve the issue of a CBI probe into the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination.Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said adequate security arrangements were being made as a large number of students are expected to participate in Monday’s “Vidhan Sabha gherao”.“Precautionary force deployment will be carried out effectively; the Ranchi Police is fully prepared. There will be a large number of students. Instructions have been issued to all Ranchi Police personnel that if the protesters conduct themselves peacefully, no inconvenience will be caused to anyone,” Rana said.“However, if anyone attempts to resort to violence, appropriate legal action will be taken against them,” he added.Rana also clarified a controversy surrounding a viral video that appeared to show security personnel carrying a pellet gun.“If a pellet gun is being carried, it is strictly for emergency situations. Regarding the viral video – what is being mistaken for a pellet gun is actually a paintball gun; it fires soft, coloured balls used to mark and identify troublemakers.
