India, Netherlands set up joint working group on clean energy (Image credit: ANI) NEW DELHI: India and the Netherlands have set up a joint working group to accelerate New Delhi’s clean energy expansion through shared technology, expertise and finance, new and renewable energy minister Pralhad Joshi said in a social media post.The minister said the joint working group would help generate new opportunities for Indian industry, researchers and workers in green energy sectors.Several agreements were signed between the Indian delegation and the Netherlands during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to boost strategic ties and cooperation between the two nations.“The India-Netherlands partnership gained new momentum during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the Netherlands. Cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen and energy transition will strengthen clean energy innovation, boost investments, create new economic opportunities and support India’s emergence as a global green hydrogen hub. These outcomes further reinforce India’s commitment towards sustainable growth, energy security and a cleaner future,” Joshi posted on X.The minister said the India-Netherlands roadmap on green hydrogen would expand export markets in Europe for India and attract investment and technology for electrolysers, storage and port infrastructure. Doctors warn that many patients remain unaware of their condition until severe complications occur. Amid this crisis, Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna has become a critical safety net, helping thousands receive treatment without the burden of unaffordable medical bills.Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh said regular screening is being conducted at all health facilities, including 990 Aam Aadmi Clinics, where people aged 30 and above are being screened for hypertension and linked to timely treatment. He added that over 1 crore people aged 30 and above have been screened and 24 lakh enrolled for treatment. “Monthly follow-ups, free medicines, and timely referral ensure continuous care, with strong rural-urban primary healthcare coverage,” he said.The CM di Yogshala, a landmark initiative of the Punjab Government aimed at making yoga accessible to every section of society, has conducted over 10,600 yoga classes with nearly 3 lakh participants. The initiative promotes yoga, stress management, and healthier lifestyles to help control hypertension and other lifestyle diseases.Hospital admissions linked to strokes, cardiac emergencies and kidney ailments caused by uncontrolled blood pressure are covered under the MMSY scheme, offering financial relief to families already battling emotional distress.Most hypertension patients in Punjab continue to belong to the middle-aged and elderly population, with the heaviest burden seen among those between 40 and 80 years of age. Data from the State Health Agency (SHA) reveals that Gurdaspur recorded patients as old as 94, while S.A.S Nagar reported cases up to 98 years, underlining the disease’s deep reach among senior citizens.Districts such as Patiala, S.A.S Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Faridkot reported some of the highest and widest spread of cases across both genders. In Amritsar and Ludhiana, hospital records show a particularly high concentration among women aged between 50 and 77 years.Dr Saurabh Sharma, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology at Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, says hypertension is no longer just an old person’s disease.”Modern lifestyles bring a different set of health challenges across all age groups. While the majority of hypertension cases are seen among people aged 40 to 90 and above, we are also witnessing cases in teenagers and people in their twenties and thirties,” he says.Dr Sharma adds that lifestyle factors such as stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, and irregular routines play a major role. He warns that complications are appearing earlier than before. “What we are seeing now is not just high blood pressure, but its complications arriving earlier — stroke, heart failure and kidney disease.”On schemes like Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, Dr Sharma says they are crucial because they ensure patients do not delay treatment due to financial fear. “In a hypertensive emergency, delay is often the difference between recovery and tragedy.”Health officials say the scheme’s importance lies not merely in treatment, but in timely intervention. In earlier years, many families delayed hospitalisation because of financial fear. Such delays often proved dangerous, sometimes fatal. Samik Bhattacharya NEW DELHI: West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya on Sunday said that the TMC has been ‘sent into exile’ by the state’s people and sarcastically invited party leader Abhishek Banerjee to campaign in the Falta constituency ahead of the May 21 repoll.Canvassing for BJP candidate Debanshu Panda, Bhattacharya questioned Banerjee’s absence from the campaign trail despite Falta being part of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency represented by the TMC leader.”We are missing you terribly. Please come,” Bhattacharya said in an apparent jibe at Banerjee.”The golden household of the golden boys has crumbled. Those who had promised a fight are now practising shadow boxing at home,” he added.The BJP leader alleged that the TMC leadership had disappeared from public view following the party’s electoral setback and claimed the ruling party no longer enjoyed the same organisational strength.”Police are not there, so the leaders are not there. There is no convoy, so there is no roar anymore. Please come to Falta and campaign. Our workers and district leadership will welcome you with flowers and blowing of conch shells,” he said.Mocking the TMC after the election setback,, Bhattacharya said, “Someone once said DJs would play after the results. I had said harmonium and jal tarang could also be played. Now all of it is being played inside homes.”A day earlier, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had campaigned in Falta and claimed that the repoll would ‘re-establish voter rights where people have not been able to vote for 10 years’.Bhattacharya also asserted that BJP workers had continued their political fight in South 24 Parganas and Diamond Harbour despite alleged intimidation over the years.Expressing confidence about the repoll outcome, he said the BJP should target a victory margin of over 1.25 lakh votes for candidate Debanshu Panda, going beyond the one lakh margin suggested earlier by Adhikari.The Bengal BJP chief also appealed to TMC workers to campaign freely without fear.”Come out without hesitation, organise rallies and meetings. Samik Bhattacharya NEW DELHI: West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya on Sunday said that the TMC has been ‘sent into exile’ by the state’s people and sarcastically invited party leader Abhishek Banerjee to campaign in the Falta constituency ahead of the May 21 repoll.Canvassing for BJP candidate Debanshu Panda, Bhattacharya questioned Banerjee’s absence from the campaign trail despite Falta being part of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency represented by the TMC leader.”We are missing you terribly. Please come,” Bhattacharya said in an apparent jibe at Banerjee.”The golden household of the golden boys has crumbled. Those who had promised a fight are now practising shadow boxing at home,” he added.The BJP leader alleged that the TMC leadership had disappeared from public view following the party’s electoral setback and claimed the ruling party no longer enjoyed the same organisational strength.”Police are not there, so the leaders are not there. There is no convoy, so there is no roar anymore. Please come to Falta and campaign. Our workers and district leadership will welcome you with flowers and blowing of conch shells,” he said.Mocking the TMC after the election setback,, Bhattacharya said, “Someone once said DJs would play after the results. I had said harmonium and jal tarang could also be played. Now all of it is being played inside homes.”A day earlier, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had campaigned in Falta and claimed that the repoll would ‘re-establish voter rights where people have not been able to vote for 10 years’.Bhattacharya also asserted that BJP workers had continued their political fight in South 24 Parganas and Diamond Harbour despite alleged intimidation over the years.Expressing confidence about the repoll outcome, he said the BJP should target a victory margin of over 1.25 lakh votes for candidate Debanshu Panda, going beyond the one lakh margin suggested earlier by Adhikari.The Bengal BJP chief also appealed to TMC workers to campaign freely without fear.”Come out without hesitation, organise rallies and meetings. Violent protest in Kolkata’s Park Circus area (Courtesy: x.com/SudhanidhiB) NEW DELHI: A clash erupted between demonstrators and police in Kolkata’s minority-dominated Park Circus area on Sunday, injuring at least three police personnel.The demonstrators were protesting the recent bulldozer action in the city’s Tiljala area, where alleged illegal constructions were demolished on the state government’s orders following a factory fire that killed two people earlier this week.Also Read: In Tiljala, Friday namaz after 6-hour stand-off with payloaderWest Bengal is now governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which came to power in the state for the first time by ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the recently held assembly elections.The use of bulldozers against alleged criminals, their properties, and alleged encroachments has been common in BJP-run states.According to police, a large number of people gathered near Park Circus Seven Point Crossing on Sunday afternoon to protest against the anti-encroachment drive and attempted to block roads.As security personnel tried to disperse the “unlawful assembly”, a section of the protesters allegedly resorted to stone-pelting, triggering chaos in the area.Several vehicles parked along the roadside, including those carrying central forces, were also vandalised.Additional commissioner Ashesh Biswas later told reporters that action had already been initiated against those involved in the violence.“Some people tried to block the road. It was an illegal gathering. The police were trying to disperse them, and there was stone-pelting. Three of our colleagues were injured. We have already arrested a few people,” PTI quoted Biswas as saying.“There was an attack on the police. We will identify those behind it and arrest everyone involved. Strict legal action will be taken,” he added.Heavy deployment of police and central forces was made in the area after the clashes. Route marches and intensified patrolling were undertaken in adjoining localities to prevent further escalation and restore normalcy.However, authorities did not indicate any direct connection between the violence and Friday’s Rajabazar incident in the state capital.Two days ago, tensions had surfaced in Rajabazar, where a standoff broke out after a group of people allegedly attempted to offer Friday prayers on a public road despite restrictions on blocking traffic.A large contingent of police personnel asked people to vacate the road, after which the situation briefly turned tense.Although there is no formal notification, the BJP government has reportedly directed police to ensure that prayer congregations do not block roads or cause inconvenience to the public, except on special occasions.Also Read: Devotees go for self-regulation, conform to govt’s new namaz guidelines across Kolkata mosquesHowever, members of the local community argued that holding Friday prayers on roads had been a long-standing practice in the locality.
