(Photo: ANI) NEW DELHI: Amid continuing reverberations from Rahul Gandhi’s girl-students rally in Pune, the Congress youth outreach “Chhatron ki Goonj” is set to move to another BJP stronghold, the education hub of Madhya Pradesh.Sources said the next episode of “chhatron ki goonj” will be held in Indore on Sep 12.In what is a carefully crafted strategy to challenge the ruling party with the “angry demographic” that led the Jantar Mantar protest, Congress has picked the venue owing to the fact that there has been a history of paper leaks in the state including the infamous examination scandal “Vyapam scam”. Besides, the opposition has won two by-elections “against the might of the state”, the latest being Datia assembly last month.Sources said the party considered a few cities, including in the Congress-ruled states in the south, but then decided on Indore in a bid to continue pressuring the BJP.While the city is a students’ hub and also has a fair share of urban and middle-class population, it has been in the negative spotlight for repeated infrastructural crises – the most sensational being 24 deaths from consuming sewage contaminated water in February 2026. (Photo: ANI) UTTARAKHAND: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has intervened to secure urgent medical aid for an eight-year-old boy suffering from a lifelong debilitating health condition.This comes after the Chief Minister visited a local food stall in Lohiahead, where the boy’s father shared their struggle.Following CM Dhami’s directions, Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria, along with Chief Medical Officer Dr SK Goswami, a team of doctors, Chief Development Officer Divesh Shasani and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tushar Saini, visited Ravi Sharma’s residence, whose eight-year-old son has been suffering from a health condition since childhood and is unable to move his hands and leg, according to a release from the CMO.CM Dhami visited Ravi Sharma’s shop in Lohiahead on Sunday to have tikki. During the interaction, Ravi Sharma told the Chief Minister about his son Dev and his condition. The child has been undergoing treatment since birth, including treatment at Indresh Hospital in Dehradun.Orthopaedic specialist Dr HS Airi and the Chief Medical Officer examined the child and reviewed his previous medical history and treatment records.After the examination and assessment of his past treatment history, the doctors suggested that an MRI scan be conducted first, following which further treatment would be decided. Delhi Police intends to register a fresh FIR to investigate the role of 2,873 people, having serious criminal antecedents as per National Crime Records Bureau database and prima facie present at the protest site. NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Monday requested the Supreme Court to urgently invoke its exclusive powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to quash 13 FIRs lodged after the July 20 violence during students’ protest march to Parliament and permit registration of an FIR against 2,873 criminal elements responsible for the violence.With the Cockroach Janata Party calling for a fresh march from India gate to Delhi Police Headquarters on Sep 5 accusing the Centre of reneging on its promises and delaying withdrawal of FIRs, solicitor general Tushar Mehta requested a bench led by CJI Surya Kant to list the application by Delhi Police seeking withdrawal of the 13 FIRs, including 10 which had invoked attempt to murder charges.The bench agreed to list the application on Tuesday. CJP had called of its 36-day-long agitation on July 25 after education minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned and the government assured compensation to families of students who committed suicide and withdrawal of FIRs.“In view of the larger public interest and in the peculiar facts of this case, the applicant invokes the extraordinary jurisdiction of the SC under Article 142 of the Constitution of India, praying for quashing of the FIRs mentioned in the chart,” it said, but said the quashing of FIRs should not be treated as a precedent for future.The police in its application gave a chart of the 13 FIRs lodged in police stations at Parliament Street (five), Connaught Place (five), and one each at Kartavya Path, Barakhamba Road and Mandir Marg. “As per the decision taken by the central government on July 25, the Delhi Police no longer wishes to pursue the FIRs registered in connection with the CJP protests spread over 20th to 25th July,” it said.“If any other FIR, with regard to the same incidents mentioned in the above FIRs, is subsequently found or brought to the attention of the government, and which is not forming part of the above referred chart, the government shall not oppose the affected party seeking a similar relief from the SC,” it said.Join conversationView All Comments →Share your thoughts in the commentsInsightfulAgreeDisagreeSkepticalConcerningPromisingWorth ReadingBig DevelopmentPost CommentBe respectful · TOI community guidelinesHowever, it said that Delhi Police intends to register a fresh FIR to investigate the role of 2,873 people, having serious criminal antecedents as per National Crime Records Bureau database and prima facie present at the protest site. “Apart from this single FIR, no fresh FIR will be filed thereafter for the incidents which happened on July 20-25,” it said.Get the latest India News and Live updates. NEW DELHI: Penguin Random House India on Monday said publication of Sonia Gandhi’s memoir in India had stalled after the publisher and the author’s representatives reached an “impasse over a particular issue.” The publisher also firmly denied that any external pressure had influenced the decision.Penguin India said the disagreement emerged during its normal editorial review of Belonging: A Journey of Love, which it had been keen to publish.The clarification came amid a growing political controversy over the memoir’s India publication, after Alfred A Knopf, the US-based imprint of Penguin Random House, announced that the book would be released worldwide on November 10. While Congress leaders have raised questions about possible governmental pressure and freedom of expression, Penguin India said the disagreement was strictly part of the editorial process.“On some, they agreed to changes and on others, we accepted the author’s position. Unfortunately, and ultimately, an understanding could not be reached on a particular issue,” the publisher said.PRHI spokesperson Pallavi Narayan said the publishing house had been “really keen” to bring out the memoir, describing it as “a hard-won acquisition”.“We feel it is important for us to correct certain misrepresentations regarding the forthcoming memoir ‘Belonging’. This is a book that we at Penguin Random House India, were really keen on publishing as it was a hard-won acquisition,” Narayan said in an exclusive statement to PTI.The publisher said the manuscript had gone through its “normal editorial process”, during which several points were raised and discussed with the author’s representatives. Some proposed changes were accepted, while on other matters Penguin India accepted the author’s position.It was ultimately the unresolved issue that brought the publication process to a halt, according to PRHI. NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Monday lashed out at CBI and ED for getting active in the probe against ‘Leaps and Bounds’ — a company allegedly linked to former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee and tainted in the SSC recruitment scam — for getting huge sums from the previous TMC govt, and questioned the state police’s sudden alacrity to probe it for the same illegalities.While seeking custodial interrogation of Sumit Roy, PA to TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, in the illegal sale of govt land as private property, solicitor general Tushar Mehta mentioned Roy’s involvement in the transfer of Rs 30 crore from a party account to Leaps and Bounds.A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana said, “The less said about Leaps and Bounds investigation, the better it is.” It noted Calcutta HC judges’ frustration over the dragging of feet by CBI and ED in investigating the firm.Mehta justified the probe, asking whether the state police should not investigate the land scam just because one agency erred.
