National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued admit cards for 22,79,743 candidates, of whom over 99% were allocated their first-choice city for the exam.Last year saw 22.76 lakh registrations as against 1.29 lakh MBBS seats. According to sources in the National Medical Commission, a large number of fresh applications have been received for starting new MBBS courses, along with proposals from existing medical colleges to increase seat capacity. “There will be a substantial increase in seats. The exact numbers are likely to be announced in the coming days,” a source said. Apart from MBBS, admissions to courses such as Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha are also conducted through NEET.Scheduled for May 3, the exam will be conducted in a single shift across the country. Candidates can download their admit cards from NEET portal. The total number of exam centres remains broadly similar to last year, with 5,446 centres identified for 2026. He also rejected allegations of “coercion” after seven Rajya Sabha MPs including Raghav Chadha quit AAP and joined the BJP.In an interview with ANI, Rijiju rejected allegations that central agencies were used to pressure leaders into switching sides, particularly claims involving the Enforcement Directorate.”There’s no question of coercion. The common man has been robbed in the name of ‘Aam Aadmi’. Arvind Kejriwal has taken complete control and turned the Aam Aadmi Party into his own private party,” he said.Referring to the exodus of leaders, he said, “One after another, so many people from the Aam Aadmi Party quit the party and even joined the BJP or Congress.””There is no question of ED. The investigation agency does its work; we cannot comment on it. Now, only his core group, who engage in illegal activities together, remains. All the good people have left Kejriwal,” Rijiju added.The BJP leader also targeted the opposition INDIA bloc, alleging internal divisions and lack of unity among its constituents.”All those who have formed the INDI Alliance belong to ‘Tukde-Tukde’. They were later joined by Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Vikramjit Singh Sahney and Swati Maliwal.With the switch, the BJP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has risen from 106 to 113, while the NDA tally has increased from 141 to 148, including seven nominated members. Representational image Hyderabad: More than 14 years after a retired employee of the Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd (HAL) was booked in a criminal case – approving a sub-standard drug – the Telangana high court quashed all charges against him and even imposed a fine on the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for implicating him without enough evidence. Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti observed that his prosecution is a “sheer abuse of the process of law” and a violation of fundamental rights and ordered CDSCO to pay “exemplary costs (fine)” of Rs 50,000 to the 75-year-old former zonal manager of HAL. It found that the officer retired months before the drug was even manufactured. The case dates back to 2010 when drug inspectors seized samples of Roxythromycin tablets (used to treat bacterial infections), manufactured by a private pharma company and supplied through CDSCO from the Central Hospital, South Central Railways, at Secunderabad and found that they were manufactured in March 2009 and weren’t of “standard quality”. Following a report from a govt laboratory, the drug authorities filed a criminal complaint in 2012, and named the petitioner as the primary accused responsible for the lapse in quality. However, during legal proceedings, the high court found that the petitioner retired from service on Jan 31, 2009 – two months before the substandard batch was produced. The HC noted that the authorities relied on old records to link him to the company’s operations, ignoring the fact that he is no longer an employee. Representational image Hyderabad: More than 14 years after a retired employee of the Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd (HAL) was booked in a criminal case – approving a sub-standard drug – the Telangana high court quashed all charges against him and even imposed a fine on the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for implicating him without enough evidence. Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti observed that his prosecution is a “sheer abuse of the process of law” and a violation of fundamental rights and ordered CDSCO to pay “exemplary costs (fine)” of Rs 50,000 to the 75-year-old former zonal manager of HAL. It found that the officer retired months before the drug was even manufactured. The case dates back to 2010 when drug inspectors seized samples of Roxythromycin tablets (used to treat bacterial infections), manufactured by a private pharma company and supplied through CDSCO from the Central Hospital, South Central Railways, at Secunderabad and found that they were manufactured in March 2009 and weren’t of “standard quality”. Following a report from a govt laboratory, the drug authorities filed a criminal complaint in 2012, and named the petitioner as the primary accused responsible for the lapse in quality. However, during legal proceedings, the high court found that the petitioner retired from service on Jan 31, 2009 – two months before the substandard batch was produced. The HC noted that the authorities relied on old records to link him to the company’s operations, ignoring the fact that he is no longer an employee.
