An IAF helicopter carrying sealed NEET-UG retest question paper packets at the Armed Reserve Police Ground in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. PTI Indian Air Force (IAF) has carried out nearly 200 sorties over the past three-four days to ferry question papers for the June 21 NEET-UG retest to 18 designated zones across the country. The mission — launched on June 13 — is nearing completion ahead of the medical entrance exam.IAF’s Mi-17 helicopters and transport aircraft were pressed into service to deliver sealed question papers to their respective destinations.The aircraft have already logged around 200 sorties since the operation began, ensuring secure and timely dispatch to hubs nationwide. From these hubs, the question papers will be transported to different exam centres under tight security arrangements, sources said.“The use of IAF aircraft is aimed at guaranteeing foolproof, time-bound delivery,” an official said.The May 3 NEET-UG exam — the single-largest competitive test in the country with over 22 lakh candidates — was rocked by allegations of paper leaks and irregularities, leading to its cancellation and triggering nationwide protests and Supreme Court intervention.Officials maintain the July 21 retest will be conducted “smoothly and without any irregularities”. NEW DELHI: The skill development ministry has graded nearly 15,000 private and govt industrial training institutes (ITIs) with over 14 lakh students in line with an exercise similar to National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which ranks higher education institutions.For the 2026-27 academic year, 466 ITIs attained a grade above 9, on a scale of 10, as against 403 last year. Govt ITI, World Bank (Mahila) in Meerut received the highest grade (9.8), followed by Govt ITI in Chaibasa (Jharkhand), Dalmia Pvt ITI in Sundargarh (Odisha) and Govt ITI (Jhansi), each receiving a grade of 9.7.Nearly 11,600 ITIs received a grade above 4, compared with 11,928 last year. A grade above 4 enables ITIs to add new-age courses, such as 3D printing, internet of things, drone technician, solar technician, among others. In all, 126 ITIs are categorised as non-graded (NG) for the want of sufficient data as these are newly established ITIs.Directorate General of Training, the apex nodal agency for regulating vocational training, developed a grading scale between 0 and 10, based on eight parameters. Of the eight, admission (30%) and passing results (30%) have the highest weighting for the current academic year, followed by a computer-based examination (10%) and average marks obtained (10%). Image: IANS NEW DELHI: Congress functionary Rahul Gandhi’s decision to put in public domain the speech he delivered at INDIA bloc meeting on June 8 has not gone down well with some of the allies, given that it was a closed-door meeting where much was said and varied views were presented. Left parties CPM, CPI and CPI(ML) Liberation specially feel that “mutual trust” among members needs to be bolstered going forward if the bloc has to mount “resistance” against BJP, as suggested by Gandhi in his speech. Not just the release of speech, even what was said by Gandhi has evoked sharp reactions from certain allies over last few days. CPM general secretary MA Baby had on Saturday strongly objected to Gandhi’s remarks regarding former Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan in his speech. “While he released what he said to allies, the views of other INDIA bloc members expressed at the closed-door meeting are not in public domain,” Baby said. CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya emphasised that INDIA bloc will have to move beyond just being an electoral bloc and a grouping that comes together during Parliament sessions. “If we want to mount ‘resistance’ against BJP as suggested by Rahul Gandhi in his speech, then we have to meet and plan on raising issues affecting the public together as a group,” he said. On Rahul releasing his speech, he said, “This was an internal meeting, and if he was planning to release his speech, then ideally all political parties present in the meeting should have been consulted.” CPI general secretary D Raja said, “By that measure speeches of others should also be in public domain. Among various issues, the members had raised concern over Congress too.” While refusing to comment on Gandhi’s speech and his decision to release it, RJD MP Manoj Jha said it must be understood that as INDIA bloc is a grouping of political parties, there will be divergence of views. He sought focus on building synchronisation and highlighting issues as a group. Meanwhile, the DMK leadership is firmly holding on to its position over Congress severing its alliance with the party to support the TVK govt. DMK’s floor leader in Rajya Sabha Tiruchi Siva said, “We are very clear that we cannot share the same space with Congress anywhere in the backdrop of their betrayal in Tamil Nadu.” He said, “However, as far as other opposition allies go, we are with them in the fight against BJP.” Get the latest India news and live updates. NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had bilateral meetings with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and also European Union leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa on the margins of the G7 summit, taking stock of recent progress in ties and welcoming the understanding reached between the US and Iran in West Asia for peace. European Commission President Von der Leyen said after the meeting that the India-EU FTA would be signed by the end of this year.”Since we have concluded the mother of all trade deals, we have been moving fast to deliver on our commitments. We will sign the Free Trade Agreement by the end of the year. And accelerate work on an investment agreement,” Von der Leyen said, adding that both sides will also step up security and defence cooperation and join forces for better connectivity by advancing IMEC, the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.Modi and EU leaders stressed the recent conclusion of negotiations for the India-EU FTA as a historic achievement and stressed its expeditious signing and implementation, which would unlock “huge opportunities for trade and investment and contribute towards diversification of supply chains, particularly in the current turbulent geopolitical context”.Exchanging views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, the leaders welcomed the developments in West Asia. “They reiterated their shared commitment to shaping a resilient multipolar global order that contributes to peace and stability, prosperity and sustainable development,” said the Indian govt.In the meeting with Merz, the leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral engagements and expressed satisfaction at the renewed momentum in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, with the successful visit of the Chancellor to India and the conclusion of the India-EU FTA negotiations earlier this year. They also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation across diverse sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, green and sustainable development, technology, innovation, education and mobility. “The two leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
