Amit Shah launches new FCRA portal, e-OCI card NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah Tuesday launched the refurbished FCRA portal that offers NGOs a fully digitised framework to apply for registration and renewal of licence under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, file compliance details and avail other services. At the same time, by integrating FCRA architecture with other govt databases including Aadhaar, PAN and Darpan, FCRA 2.0 portal enables real-time monitoring of foreign contributions and enforcement actions by govt. The updated FCRA portal was unveiled even as opposition parties are up in arms over recent amendments in FCRA rules. Shah also launched Tuesday the e-OCI card that will allow members of Indian diaspora to avail all OCI services online — covering application, documentation and download of the digitally generated card after approval. This will benefit 50 lakh OCI holders worldwide. Under the new arrangement, the requirement to reissue the OCI booklet upon receiving a new passport after the age of 20 years has been done away with.Get the latest India news and live updates. Congress moves privilege notice against Rajnath Singh over Operation Sindoor NEW DELHI: Congress MP KC Venugopal Tuesday moved a notice for breach of privilege against defence minister Rajnath Singh, accusing him of misleading Parliament by telling Lok Sabha that no Indian soldier was martyred during Operation Sindoor in 2025. Last week, a controversy erupted when the Centre stated that six soldiers died in attacks from Pakistan. The opposition seized upon the govt’s statement and cited the speech made by the minister in Lok Sabha to allege that he had misled the country. Tagging the proceedings of Lok Sabha to the petition, Venugopal wrote to Speaker Om Birla that breach of privilege proceedings should be initiated against the minister. In his letter to Birla, Venugopal said that on July 28, 2025, during discussions on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor that followed, Rajnath Singh said that no harm was caused to the Indian soldiers. However, in contrast, a statement has now been issued that said six armed forces personnel died during Operation Sindoor. Though moved by Congress, the privilege notice appears to have the concurrence of the opposition parties who joined hands in attacking the Modi govt after it made public the death of six soldiers. NEW DELHI: BJP Tuesday dismissed opposition’s bid to revive its challenge to SIR by writing to the CJI as a diversionary tactic, saying people’s constant rejection of these parties in the polls has raised a question over their policies but they are instead busy raising questions over a process already upheld by the judiciary. “The highest judiciary has already upheld the SIR. The opposition keeps raising questions over SIR even though SC has rejected pleas against the process and recognised EC’s power to do so,” BJP’s chief spokesperson and MP Anil Baluni said. He said Congress and other opposition parties keep harping about SIR as an excuse to hide their electoral failures and asked them to instead reflect on their continuous rejection by people in elections. “SIR is not being done for the first time. It was carried out during previous govts, including those of the Congress, as well,” Baluni added. BJP also noted that EC has carried out SIR in states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu as well where opposition won in recent elections, accusing opposition parties of hypocrisy by blaming the exercise for their losses in other states.Get the latest India news and live updates. ‘No intrusion… transgression in absence of demarcation’: Kiran Rijiju NEW DELHI: Union minister Kiren Rijiju has rejected the claim of a tribal body from his home state that the Chinese army has occupied parts of their land. He emphasised that there is no “intrusion” into the Indian side, though transgressions are committed by both countries from time to time due to the absence of clear border demarcation. “There is no intrusion. Transgressions from both sides happen due to the absence of demarcation,” he told TOI. The Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal West rued the lack of infrastructure development in the border region of state, the largest in area in the Northeast, during the tenure of earlier Central govts. He said that the Modi-led govt has prioritised building infra in the region. ‘No intrusion… transgression in absence of demarcation’: Kiran Rijiju NEW DELHI: Union minister Kiren Rijiju has rejected the claim of a tribal body from his home state that the Chinese army has occupied parts of their land. He emphasised that there is no “intrusion” into the Indian side, though transgressions are committed by both countries from time to time due to the absence of clear border demarcation. “There is no intrusion. Transgressions from both sides happen due to the absence of demarcation,” he told TOI. The Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal West rued the lack of infrastructure development in the border region of state, the largest in area in the Northeast, during the tenure of earlier Central govts. He said that the Modi-led govt has prioritised building infra in the region. Free navigation in Hormuz essential: PM Modi to Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian NEW DELHI: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian briefed PM Modi about the recent developments in West Asia and the way forward in a phone call, said the Indian govt. On X, Modi said he reiterated the importance of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz for India and the world, and called for lasting peace. An Indian readout said Modi welcomed the understanding between US and Iran and reiterated India’s position that all issues must be resolved through dialogue & diplomacy. “PM reiterated the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region, and for safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce,” said the readout.Modi said on X, “Welcomed the progress made in the negotiations and expressed hope that continued efforts will lead to lasting peace in the region. Reiterated the importance of freedom of navigation in the Hormuz Strait for India and the world.” Pezeshkian had invited Modi earlier for the funeral of late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei that begins on July 4. However, India has decided to send MoS for external affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar governor Syed Ata Hasnain for the multi-day programme. An Iranian readout said Modi told Pezeshkian India would be sending a special delegation for the funeral. This was the third conversation between Modi and Pezeshkian since the war in West Asia started on Feb 28. The talks took place amid uncertainty over diplomatic efforts to implement the June 17 interim peace deal.
