WWE WrestleMania 42 Night 1 Results & Highlights: Randy Orton punt kicks Cody Rhodes, new champions, shocking returns, and more

WrestleMania 42 kicked off its festivities with Night 1 of the show in Allegiant Stadium. The event began with the host, John Cena, addressing the crowd, followed by some stellar in-ring showdowns.

Six-man tag team match

The opening match of WrestleMania 42 Saturday saw The Vision and IShowSpeed clash against The Usos and LA Knight. The high-octane action captivated the fans in attendance. It ended when Speed resisted a move, allowing Knight to hit the BFT on Austin Theory and scoring the pinfall. Logan Paul attacked Speed but his opponents came to his aid. The ending saw Speed jump from the top turnbuckle onto Paul, who was put on the announcer’s desk.

Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu

This was an Unsanctioned match between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu. Both men inflicted major damage with weapons and objects and the action spilled all over ringside. Following a hellacious bout, Fatu planted McIntyre with a Moonsault through the table and pinned him to emerge as the winner.

Fatal 4-Way Tag Team match

The match saw the return of Paige as Brie Bella’s partner, which was a huge shocker. It was back and forth action between all the teams producing a stellar match. In the end, Nikki Bella attacked Charlotte Flair, which distracted Alexa Bliss. This led Paige to hit the Rampage and win the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles for her team.

AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch

AJ Lee defended her WWE Intercontinental title against Becky Lynch. Both women squared off in a back-and-forth contest involving high stakes. As the match came to a close, the referee got distracted, and Lynch shoved Lee into the exposed turnbuckle and hit her with a Manhandle Slam to become the new champion.

Seth Rollins vs. Gunther

Gunther and Seth Rollins had a ringside brawl before the match began. After that, it was a hard hitting affair between both top stars from Monday Night RAW with the action all over the ringside area. The final moments of the captivating showdown saw Bron Breakker return and speared Rollins. This allowed Gunther to lock the sleeper hold, and Rollins passed out, giving him the victory.

Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan

Liv Morgan challenged Stephanie Vaquer for the WWE Women’s World Championship. Vaquer faced constant interference from the Judgment Day members. In the end, Morgan hit the Oblivion and pinned Vaquer to become the new champion and celebrated with her faction members.

Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton

This was the main event match for WrestleMania Saturday. Pat McAfee was in the corner of Randy Orton. However, Cody Rhodes took him out with a Cross Rhodes. Jelly Roll also assisted in taking McAfee out. Following that, it became a classic singles showdown which was a stellar hit. At one point, Orton was bleeding, and Rhodes continued to attack him. The final moments of the bout saw Orton take out McAfee and Rhodes capitalized by hitting the Cross Rhodes to retain his title.
