‘Why should I have a public announcement?’: Taapsee Pannu on keeping her wedding to Mathias Boe a private affair; recalls video leak, says, ‘That was very embarrassing’
‘Gandhari’ actress Taapsee Pannu has spoken about her decision to keep her marriage to former Danish badminton player Mathias Boe away from the public eye. The actress said she never considered a formal announcement necessary.She also chose not to release an official collection of photographs or videos from their wedding celebrations. According to Taapsee Pannu, her decision stems from the distinction she has always maintained between her personal and professional lives. The actress clarified that privacy was not an attempt to hide her relationship. She simply considers marriage a personal matter and prefers to keep it that way.
Taapsee Pannu on avoiding a public announcement
During a conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit on his YouTube channel, Taapsee Pannu addressed the attention surrounding her wedding. She explained why she did not follow the conventional route of making a public announcement. “Why should I have a public announcement? I’ve always kept my personal and professional lives apart. Not that I want to hide them, am scared or embarrassed of them. But I’ve refrained from making announcements. I think it’s personal, and I’d want to keep it like that. It feels very weird to put out a press note or a deck of photos and videos,” she said.Taapsee Pannu and Mathias Boe got married through a court marriage in December 2023. They later celebrated their union with an intimate ceremony in Udaipur in March 2024. The celebrations were attended by their close friends and family members. The couple did not share an official collection of wedding photographs with the public.
Wedding footage surfaced on social media
Their efforts to keep the occasion private were disrupted when a video from the wedding surfaced online in April 2024. The footage showed Taapsee Pannu making her bridal entry and included portions of the varmala ceremony.In the video, Taapsee Pannu was seen wearing a traditional red outfit. Mathias Boe appeared alongside her in an ivory sherwani. Speaking about the footage, Taapsee Pannu said the incident left her embarrassed. She also explained how guests connected to the families can sometimes have access to private celebrations. “That was very embarrassing. But that happens with people who’re not invited by you, but by your family. Your family wants them to be there, but you maybe don’t know them enough. Some of them didn’t understand the basic brief given to them,” she said.

Taapsee Pannu said she did not want to take away the phones of guests during the celebrations. She felt that imposing such a restriction would be childish. “I would want to believe that those people will value it when I’m cordially telling them that even if you click pictures, please don’t post them. Almost everybody was clicking videos… When you see a picture or a video, it’s not just about me. It’s about a lot of other people, including my husband, who’s not the kind of public figure I am. He’s a sports star, but people are not that crazy about the personal life of the person, especially in this part of the world and the kind of a sport he’s in. So, he’s open to the kind of scrutiny I’m used to,” she said.

Taapsee Pannu and Mathias Boe have been together since 2013. The couple maintained a low profile throughout their relationship. Although they occasionally appeared together in photographs, Taapsee Pannu generally avoided discussing their relationship in detail. Their wedding celebrations followed the same approach, with the couple choosing to keep the occasion limited to their close circle.On the work front, Taapsee Pannu was last seen in the action thriller film ‘Gandhari’.
