Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Chennai: The Union govt on Wednesday informed Lok Sabha that security assessments are conducted periodically at all nuclear power plant sites by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) and “external govt agencies.”In a written reply to Congress MP Manickam Tagore, minister of state in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh said the plants also conduct internal security assessments. “The observations made are reviewed, monitored and necessary upgrades are carried out for compliance,” he said.Tagore had sought details of third-party security audits at nuclear plants, including Kudankulam, and measures to counter threats from drones, cyberattacks and sabotage. He asked whether any foreign or suspected state-sponsored cyberattack attempts had been detected during the past three years.The National Alliance of Anti-nuclear Movements urged the Union govt recently to constitute a commission of inquiry to investigate the alleged leak of files related to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. The statement comes in the wake of a ransomware group reportedly publishing hundreds of files linked to the Kudankulam plant which are said to be highly sensitive.The govt did not directly disclose whether any such foreign or state-sponsored attempts had been detected. It said cybersecurity at nuclear installations was accorded the “highest priority”, with continuous monitoring and surveillance mechanisms in place. Preventive measures include access controls, regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, incident-response mechanisms and capacity-building programmes. It cited CERT-in’s (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) role in issuing alerts and advisories, coordinating responses to cyber incidents and operating the National Cyber Coordination Centre.On physical security, Singh said nuclear power plants were equipped with perimeter intrusion-detection systems, access controls, CCTV surveillance and X-ray baggage inspection facilities. The AERB conducts regulatory inspections covering nuclear security.Singh said regulatory-approved emergency preparedness plans were in place at every nuclear power plant, including Kudankulam. NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has found a rather unusual way to join the viral ‘kuchu-puchu’ Gen Z trend, using internet humour to deliver a serious warning about kite-flying strings.In a recent social media post, the police urged residents to enjoy kite flying but stay away from banned Chinese manjha and plastic-coated strings, which can cause serious injuries to people and animals.“Dear Kuchu Puchu, Patang Udao but Say NO to Chinese Manjha, Samjhe?” the police wrote, giving its usual safety messaging a more playful, social media-friendly tone.The message comes as authorities step up action against the banned string in Delhi. The Crime Branch recently seized more than 1,300 rolls of Chinese manjha during an enforcement operation. In a separate action, Central Delhi Police recovered around 120 rolls.The post quickly drew reactions online, with some users poking fun at the police for adopting the language of Gen Z.“Gen-Z mode of Delhi Police”, “They are updating”, some comments read. Behind the light-hearted presentation, however, is a serious safety concern.Chinese manjha is generally made using synthetic or plastic material and can be coated with abrasive substances. Because of its sharpness, it can cause deep cuts and injuries. It can also become particularly dangerous for birds, which can get caught in the string while flying. Chinese manjha is generally made using synthetic or plastic material. NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has found a rather unusual way to join the viral ‘kuchu-puchu’ Gen Z trend, using internet humour to deliver a serious warning about kite-flying strings.In a recent social media post, the police urged residents to enjoy kite flying but stay away from banned Chinese manjha and plastic-coated strings, which can cause serious injuries to people and animals.“Dear Kuchu Puchu, Patang Udao but Say NO to Chinese Manjha, Samjhe?” the police wrote, giving its usual safety messaging a more playful, social media-friendly tone.The message comes as authorities step up action against the banned string in Delhi. The Crime Branch recently seized more than 1,300 rolls of Chinese manjha during an enforcement operation. In a separate action, Central Delhi Police recovered around 120 rolls.The post quickly drew reactions online, with some users poking fun at the police for adopting the language of Gen Z.“Gen-Z mode of Delhi Police”, “They are updating”, some comments read. Behind the light-hearted presentation, however, is a serious safety concern.Chinese manjha is generally made using synthetic or plastic material and can be coated with abrasive substances. Because of its sharpness, it can cause deep cuts and injuries. It can also become particularly dangerous for birds, which can get caught in the string while flying. PM Modi and Trump to work on tariff deal NEW DELHI: US senior counsellor for trade and manufacturing Peter Navarro has said President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have a “very good working relationship” and will resolve differences over the US tariff issue linked to India’s imports of Russian oil.Responding to an ANI question, Navarro recalled the backlash he faced in India after writing an op-ed on the India-Russia oil trade.“During the Ukraine-Russia war, 6-8 months ago, I think I wrote an op-ed, which absolutely factually correctly pointed out that prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, India was not involved in the oil trade with Russia, but afterwards it got heavily involved and was selling a lot of refined products on behalf of Russia, which helped feed the war machine,” Navarro said.“And that issue has been resolved. Maybe I had a little bit to do with that with that op-ed, but I can tell you, I got actually firebombed by the Indian continent on the internet.
