He also alleged that the Congress had questioned the existence of Lord Ram in Ayodhya and referred to the Emergency imposed in 1975.The UP chief minister said Rahul Gandhi should study ancient Indian texts to understand Manu and India’s heritage.“You make comments regarding Manu, Ram, or India’s heritage. If you wish to understand Manu, read the Atharvaveda, the Shatapatha Brahmana and the Matsya Purana; you will find all the information there.”Yogi also criticised remarks directed at the Prime Minister, saying such statements amounted to an attack on an institution rather than an individual.“When you insult India’s institutions, when you make derogatory remarks about the Prime Minister of India, you are not merely insulting an individual; you are insulting an institution of India. Mahua Moitra moves Supreme Court over eviction NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has approached the Supreme Court alleging that the Nadia district administration in West Bengal evicted her from her official constituency accommodation at the Circuit House in violation of court orders.The matter was mentioned before Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, seeking urgent listing of Moitra’s plea.Moitra told the Supreme Court that local officials evicted her from her constituency accommodation in the middle of the night despite a protective order issued by the High Court, as cited by Bar and Bench.”May I mention an Article 32 petition by a sitting lady Member of Parliament who was evicted from her constituency accommodation by local officials, the Additional District Magistrate and the District Magistrate, in the dead of the night at 11 pm. This requires, in our respectful submission, some comprehensive directions because it involves issues of federalism. It also requires an independent investigation. This has happened despite the High Court already having passed a protective order. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram NEW DELHI: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Monday played down the buzz around TVK supporters projecting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay for a larger role in national politics, saying that becoming Prime Minister requires the backing of at least 272 MPs.Chidambaram was responding to Vijay’s participation in the 31st Meeting of the Southern Zonal Council, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.Speaking about the Tamil Nadu-based political party led by the actor-turned-politician, Chidambaram said its leadership could have national ambitions, but the numbers in Parliament would ultimately determine who could become Prime Minister.“To become Prime Minister of India, you need to command the support of 272 MPs, any formation or any political party which commands the support of 272 MPs and the leader of that formation will be Prime Minister of India. TN CM Vijay announces 3 free LPG cylinders, expands free bus travel for women NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday announced a set of welfare measures in the state Assembly, including three free cooking gas cylinders a year for eligible beneficiaries and an expansion of the fare-free bus travel scheme for women.Under the cooking gas scheme, the amount for the three cylinders will be credited directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.Vijay announced the launch of the Vetri Payanam scheme, expanding the existing fare-free bus travel programme for women across the state.Under the scheme, women will be allowed to travel free of charge on Express, LSS and Deluxe government buses operating in metropolitan and urban areas. For inter-district travel, the benefit will cover ordinary-fare government buses in mofussil and hilly areas.The scheme will come into effect from October 2, marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Vijay said there would be no income ceiling or restriction on the number of trips under the programme.
