Veteran actor Bharat Kapoor passes away at 80; Ashoke Pandit pays tribute: ‘A great human being’
Veteran Bollywood actor Bharat Kapoor passed away on Monday at the age of 80, leaving behind a rich legacy spanning theatre, films, and television.Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news on Instagram, expressing his grief. He wrote, “Sad to know about the demise of veteran theatre and film actor Bharat Kapoor ji. Have great memories working with him in the initial days of my career. A great human being. Om Shanti.”

Kapoor passed away at around 3:30 pm at Sion Hospital in Mumbai. His last rites were held later in the evening at 6:30 pm, in the presence of family members and close friends.Actor and his close friend Avtar Gill told India Today, “I just came from the cremation, which took place at 6:30 pm. He passed away at around 3 pm today at Sion Hospital in Mumbai. He had not been keeping well for the past three days. Over the last few days, his multiple organs had started failing.”
A career spanning four decades
Bharat Kapoor began his journey in the film industry in 1972 and went on to build a career that lasted nearly four decades. Known largely for his supporting and villainous roles, he became a familiar face in Hindi cinema through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.He featured in several notable films including Noorie (1979), Ram Balram (1980), Love Story (1981), Bazaar (1982), Ghulami (1985), Aakhree Raasta (1986), Satyamev Jayate (1987), Swarg (1990), Khuda Gawah (1992), and Rang (1993). His performances in these films added weight to the narrative, establishing him as a dependable character actor.He later appeared in films like Barsaat (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), and Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2004), showcasing his ability to adapt across eras.Apart from films, Bharat Kapoor also made a mark on television with shows such as Campus, Parampara, Rahat, Saans, Amanat, Tara, Chunauti, and Kahani Chandrakanta Ki. His versatility allowed him to seamlessly transition between mediums.
