‘Varanasi’: Mahesh Babu’s Lord Rama sequence in the SS Rajamouli directorial to focus on epic battle with Kumbhakarna – Report
Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli is coming up with his grand time travelling adventure action thriller ‘Varanasi’ with Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. It is known that the film will have elements for a mythological sci-fi, as Mahesh Babu is expected to be seen playing Lord Ram in a 20-30 minute Ramayana-inspired sequence, a latest report shares further details about the Ramayana episode that will be seen in the movie.

According to a post shared by media outlet Telugu Chitraalu on X, the Ramayana episode in ‘Varanasi’ will focus on the battle between Lord Rama and Kumbhakarna. It is also claimed that Mahesh Babu will appear as Lord Rama in this special sequence. Lord Hanuman and the mighty Vanara Sena are also said to be part of the episode.The report further says that Sita ma and King Ravana will not appear in this particular episode. Several other important characters from the Ramayana are also reportedly not part of the sequence. The film is said to focus only on the battle between Lord Rama and Kumbhakarna. However, this is only a report at the moment, and the makers have not officially confirmed these details.
Mahesh Babu’s new ‘Varanasi’ look
Recently, the makers shared new looks of Mahesh Babu as Rudhra on the actor’s birthday. In the pictures, he was seen as a rugged explorer. One still showed him in a casual look, while another showed him standing seeing a landscape mostly likely in Africa.
‘Varanasi’ plot
As per the latest reports, ‘Varanasi’ is expected to show Mahesh Babu’s character Rudhra, a rugged archaeologist and explorer, who is given a dangerous mission after a massive asteroid named Shambhavi heads towards Varanasi. He travels across different parts of the world to find an ancient cosmic artifact. He is joined by Mandakini, a historian and skilled marksman.The story is expected to take the audience through Africa, Antarctica and Europe. They are chased by Kumbha, a tech-genius villain essayed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.The film is expected to complete filming by October 2026. Interestingly, the film has been shot with IMAX camera.It is scheduled to release on April 7, 2027.
