Varma had denied any knowledge of the cash and rejected allegations of financial impropriety.After an in-house inquiry ordered by then Chief Justice of India indicted Varma, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla constituted a three-member panel headed by Supreme Court judge Aravind Kumar under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, following a motion backed by MPs from different political parties.Varma, however, resigned during the inquiry.
