‘That film is bigger’: Sandeep Reddy Vanga reacts to SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ as Prabhas’ ‘Spirit’ and Mahesh Babu starrer’s one month release gap and Rs 1,000 crore box office expectations
Big-ticket Indian cinema is already lining up for 2027, with ‘Spirit’ and SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ among the most-awaited projects. During a press interaction in Hyderabad, Sandeep was reminded that ‘Spirit’ is scheduled for release on March 5, 2027, while Varanasi is set to arrive in April. When both movies were described as potential Rs. Rs. 1,000-crore films, the ‘Spirit’ director quickly corrected the comparison. According to a video shared by Telugu Film Nagar, he said, “Aa film inka peddadi andi (That film is bigger).” The comment has since grabbed attention, particularly because both films are expected to be major theatrical events, and it shows the scale at which Sandeep himself views Rajamouli’s upcoming project.
Is the gap between ‘Spirit’ and ‘Varanasi’ releases enough?
Sandeep was also asked whether a roughly month-long gap would give Spirit a strong theatrical run before ‘Varanasi’ arrives. He sounded confident about the window: “It will be enough; we have around 37 days. I am thinking it should be enough.” When pressed further on the possibility of a clash between the two big-budget films, he joked, “Okay, we’ll shift the date. What? (laughs) Is that what you want to hear? Nothing like that, it’ll be enough.” He also revealed that roughly half of ‘Spirit’ has already been completed.

Sandeep expects the film to receive an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, continuing a pattern seen in his earlier directorials. ‘Varanasi,’ directed by SS Rajamouli, stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and is slated for release on April 7, 2027. With just over a month separating the two films, both are set to generate major excitement at the box office.
