SSC stenographer 2026: The Staff Selection Commission has released the notification for the Stenographer Grade C and D Examination 2026, with the online application process commencing on April 24. The recruitment drive will fill posts across ministries, departments, organisations and their attached and subordinate offices of the Government of India.According to the schedule, candidates can submit applications until May 15, while the deadline for fee payment is May 16. A correction window will remain available from May 20 to May 21, and the computer based examination is scheduled to be conducted between July and August 2026.Application process and key datesApplications are to be submitted only through the official SSC website or the mobile application. Vacancies and eligibility criteriaThe Commission has indicated approximately 731 vacancies, with detailed post wise and category wise figures to be published later. The recruitment is open to candidates with stenography skills who have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board or university by August 1, 2026.For Grade C posts, candidates must be between 18 and 30 years, while for Grade D posts the age limit is 18 to 27 years, calculated as on August 1, 2026. Age relaxation provisions apply for reserved categories, including SC, ST, OBC, PwBD and ex servicemen, in accordance with government rules.Examination pattern and verificationThe examination will be conducted in computer based mode as an open competitive test for direct recruitment to Group B and Group C posts. Only candidates possessing stenography proficiency will be eligible to appear in the examination.Document verification will be carried out by the respective user departments after declaration of final results.
