Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone’s ‘Brahmastra 2’ to have Rs 550 crore budget? Details Inside
Much has been said and written about director Ayan Mukerji’s highly anticipated ‘Brahmastra 2’.The film, that is rumoured to have Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, is now making waves for his huge production budget. After the ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ was widely reported to cost between Rs 375 crore and Rs 410 crore, new reports indicate that the upcoming sequel could just surpass the Rs 500 crore mark.According to a post on Lets Cinema, the film is gearing up to become one of the biggest investments in Indian cinema, with Jio Studios reportedly in final talks to pump around Rs 550 crore into Mukerji’s highly anticipated sequel. The proposed investment comes as the second instalment of the Astraverse undergoes a ‘major revamp’, with the makers said to be setting up the film on a significantly larger scale than its 2022 predecessor. The sequel has already generated considerable buzz over its casting. Ranbir is rumoured to have a double role in the film that will see him play the role of Shiva and also take on the role of Dev. As per early reports, Alia Bhatt will reprise her character Isha opposite Shiva, while Deepika Padukone is in talks to play the role of Amruta, opposite the character Dev. Deepika, although previously teased in the first film, has not yet been officially confirmed for part 2 of the epic saga.According to recent reports, Kapoor is expected to begin shooting ‘Brahmastra 2’ in April 2027, after completing work on Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana Part 2’. Scripting and pre-production on the sequel are already underway. If the rumours are true, then the Rs 550 crore investment would put the film among the most expensive Indian productions of all time. The first film was itself mounted on a reported budget of around Rs 400 crore and established Mukerji’s Astraverse as an ambitious fantasy franchise. However, the huge price tag didn’t translate to box office profits, with the film earning an estimated Rs 410 to Rs 429 crore worldwide. Its total collection includes around Rs 257–260 crore net in India across all languages and roughly Rs 112 crore from overseas markets.‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’, released in 2022, starred Kapoor, Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Shah Rukh Khan and Mouni Roy in lead roles. The film was said to be the first part of an ambitious three-part saga. The film concluded with the revelation of the character Dev, setting up the story for its sequel.
