In his letter dated August 14, but revealed on Monday, Rahul expressed solidarity with the protesters, calling their demands legitimate and their protest peaceful.The LoP also noted that some students remain on an indefinite hunger strike and urged the government to resolve their remaining concerns.”The Congress party believes that the right to peaceful protest as enshrined in the Constitution of India is one of the central pillars of our democracy. We have, therefore, offered our full support to students protesting paper leaks and irregularities in the education system over the last few months. It is also our belief that the Indian education system has been captured by the RSS and BJP and transformed into a tool for the exploitation and oppression of students. (File Photo) NEW DELHI: A doctor’s disciplinary record may soon follow them across the country, with the National Medical Commission proposing to link the National Medical Register with state registers to track licence status, suspension, removal and other disciplinary action.The proposal is part of the draft Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, published on August 11. The NMR will serve as a central repository of doctors’ registration details and disciplinary orders issued by State Medical Councils, NMC or its Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB).The NMR will record whether a doctor’s licence is active or inactive, along with details of disciplinary action. NMC and EMRB will also be able to seek records from State Medical Councils and monitor compliance.Under the draft, complaints of professional misconduct, unethical conduct or medical negligence will be handled by the State Medical Council in whose jurisdiction the alleged incident occurred. Its decision will be reflected against the doctor’s credentials in the online register.If another State Medical Council recommends disciplinary action, it will also be reflected in the NMR and automatically updated in the doctor’s primary state register. The two registers will be electronically synchronised.The draft also proposes a unified registration portal. National Medical Commission proposed to link the National Medical Register with state registers to track licence status, suspension, removal and other disciplinary action. (File Photo) NEW DELHI: A doctor’s disciplinary record may soon follow them across the country, with the National Medical Commission proposing to link the National Medical Register with state registers to track licence status, suspension, removal and other disciplinary action.The proposal is part of the draft Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, published on August 11. The NMR will serve as a central repository of doctors’ registration details and disciplinary orders issued by State Medical Councils, NMC or its Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB).The NMR will record whether a doctor’s licence is active or inactive, along with details of disciplinary action. NMC and EMRB will also be able to seek records from State Medical Councils and monitor compliance.Under the draft, complaints of professional misconduct, unethical conduct or medical negligence will be handled by the State Medical Council in whose jurisdiction the alleged incident occurred. Its decision will be reflected against the doctor’s credentials in the online register.If another State Medical Council recommends disciplinary action, it will also be reflected in the NMR and automatically updated in the doctor’s primary state register. The two registers will be electronically synchronised.The draft also proposes a unified registration portal. Delhi Police said the complaint regarding the alleged incident during the rendition of “Vande Mataram” is being enquired into.The complaint seeks legal action against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi over their alleged conduct during the rendition. It refers to video footage and media reports concerning the incident.According to the complaint, Sonia Gandhi allegedly made gestures and communicated with people present in a manner that, the complainant claims, indicated an objection to the continuation of the National Song. It also alleges that Rahul Gandhi was heard saying, “We are not singing Vande Mataram,” during the rendition.The allegations have not been established by the police.
