Rahul Gandhi’s big claim over RSS involvement in Sainik Schools NEW DELHI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reportedly alleged at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence that the involvement of the RSS, the ideological mentor of the ruling BJP, is “increasing unnecessarily” in Sainik Schools across the country.According to ANI, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, who is a member of the committee, referred to a media report while making the claim.The remarks prompted committee chair Radha Mohan Singh, a BJP MP, to ask Rahul Gandhi to provide documents supporting his claim. SC directs high court CJs to nominate co-opted women members NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that State Bar Councils have increasingly become “men’s clubs” and said the monopoly over their representation and functioning must be dismantled.A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana made the remarks while hearing petitions related to elections to the Bar Council of India and State Bar Councils.“Bar Councils have become men’s clubs. We may observe that people take it like a monopoly. This has to be completely dismantled,” CJI Surya Kant remarked during the hearing.The court directed the Chief Justices of the jurisdictional High Courts to nominate two women members to every State Bar Council through co-option. One must be a former woman High Court judge and the other a senior woman advocate with a fair standing at the Bar.The court said the nominated members should have no connection with the election process so that they can function independently and impartially.“As far as co-option is concerned…10% we always had in mind. There should be co-option of those who don’t have anything to do with elections,” the court observed.The Supreme Court also clarified that a woman who unsuccessfully contested a State Bar Council election would not be barred from being considered for co-option.The court referred the issue of the methodology for calculating transferable votes, particularly for women candidates, to the High-Powered Supervisory Committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia. CM Dhami also inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Health Service Camp at the Alaknanda Hotel premises HARIDWAR: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday welcomed Kanwariyas arriving in Haridwar for the annual Kanwar Yatra, showering flower petals on Shiva devotees from a helicopter and washing the feet of five pilgrims as a mark of respect.CM Dhami also inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Health Service Camp at the Alaknanda Hotel premises and reviewed the medical facilities and arrangements made for the pilgrims. He interacted with Kanwariyas from different states and served food to the devotees.Addressing the gathering during the felicitation programme, Chief Minister Dhami said that the Uttarakhand Government is committed to ensuring that every Shiva devotee visiting Devbhoomi experiences a safe, convenient, and respectful pilgrimage. He said that the Kanwar Yatra is not merely a religious event but a grand celebration of India’s Sanatan traditions, social harmony, and spiritual consciousness. The state government, in coordination with all concerned departments, is continuously working to ensure the successful conduct of the pilgrimage.The chief minister said that for the past five years, he has had the privilege of serving Shiva devotees during the Kanwar Yatra. He described Lord Shiva as the source of faith, strength, and devotion for millions of people. Despite challenging conditions, devotees undertake journeys of hundreds of kilometres while chanting “Bam Bam Bhole,” reflecting their unwavering devotion. He added that the Kanwar Yatra also symbolises discipline, service, dedication, and social unity.Chief minister Dhami informed that more than one crore Kanwariyas have successfully collected holy Ganga water and continued towards their destinations this year. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unprecedented efforts are being made to preserve and develop India’s cultural heritage and sacred sites. Projects such as the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor, Mahakal Lok, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, the reconstruction of Kedarnath Dham, and the Badrinath Master Plan are giving Indian culture a new global identity.Referring to the 2013 Kedarnath disaster, the Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kedarnath Dham has been transformed into a grand and divine pilgrimage destination through extensive reconstruction. Facilities such as the Aastha Path, Saraswati Ghat, the statue of Adi Shankaracharya, and accommodation for pilgrimage priests have been developed. He further stated that proposed projects such as the Ganga Corridor in Haridwar and the Sharda Corridor will provide fresh momentum to the state’s development and religious tourism.The CM emphasised that the safety of pilgrims remains the government’s highest priority. He said that CCTV surveillance, drone monitoring, ambulance services, health camps, and emergency response systems have been deployed along the pilgrimage routes. He also appealed to devotees to maintain discipline, uphold the sanctity of the pilgrimage, and respect religious traditions throughout the journey.He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the police, district administration, health department, sanitation workers, environmental volunteers, NGOs, and all personnel engaged in service during the Kanwar Yatra. He said that the successful organisation of such a massive event is possible only through collective commitment and teamwork.Chief minister Dhami also honoured five police personnel and five sanitation workers (Paryavaran Mitras) for their outstanding contribution to the successful management of the Kanwar Yatra. He said that the recognition symbolises the state’s gratitude to all the frontline workers who work day and night tirelessly to ensure security, cleanliness, healthcare, and other essential services for millions of devotees.Earlier in the day, Dhami highlighted the religious significance of visiting Binsar Mahadev Temple in Ranikhet during the holy month of Shravan.In a post on X, CM Dhami wrote, “On the sacred occasion of the Shravan month, the worship of Lord Bholenath holds special significance. During this auspicious time, devotees arrive in large numbers at the Binsar Mahadev Temple, nestled in the lap of the dense cedar forests of Ranikhet (Almora), seeking faith, devotion, and spiritual peace. CM Dhami also inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Health Service Camp at the Alaknanda Hotel premises HARIDWAR: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday welcomed Kanwariyas arriving in Haridwar for the annual Kanwar Yatra, showering flower petals on Shiva devotees from a helicopter and washing the feet of five pilgrims as a mark of respect.CM Dhami also inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Health Service Camp at the Alaknanda Hotel premises and reviewed the medical facilities and arrangements made for the pilgrims. He interacted with Kanwariyas from different states and served food to the devotees.Addressing the gathering during the felicitation programme, Chief Minister Dhami said that the Uttarakhand Government is committed to ensuring that every Shiva devotee visiting Devbhoomi experiences a safe, convenient, and respectful pilgrimage. He said that the Kanwar Yatra is not merely a religious event but a grand celebration of India’s Sanatan traditions, social harmony, and spiritual consciousness. The state government, in coordination with all concerned departments, is continuously working to ensure the successful conduct of the pilgrimage.The chief minister said that for the past five years, he has had the privilege of serving Shiva devotees during the Kanwar Yatra. He described Lord Shiva as the source of faith, strength, and devotion for millions of people. Despite challenging conditions, devotees undertake journeys of hundreds of kilometres while chanting “Bam Bam Bhole,” reflecting their unwavering devotion. He added that the Kanwar Yatra also symbolises discipline, service, dedication, and social unity.Chief minister Dhami informed that more than one crore Kanwariyas have successfully collected holy Ganga water and continued towards their destinations this year. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unprecedented efforts are being made to preserve and develop India’s cultural heritage and sacred sites. Projects such as the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor, Mahakal Lok, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, the reconstruction of Kedarnath Dham, and the Badrinath Master Plan are giving Indian culture a new global identity.Referring to the 2013 Kedarnath disaster, the Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kedarnath Dham has been transformed into a grand and divine pilgrimage destination through extensive reconstruction. Facilities such as the Aastha Path, Saraswati Ghat, the statue of Adi Shankaracharya, and accommodation for pilgrimage priests have been developed. He further stated that proposed projects such as the Ganga Corridor in Haridwar and the Sharda Corridor will provide fresh momentum to the state’s development and religious tourism.The CM emphasised that the safety of pilgrims remains the government’s highest priority. He said that CCTV surveillance, drone monitoring, ambulance services, health camps, and emergency response systems have been deployed along the pilgrimage routes. He also appealed to devotees to maintain discipline, uphold the sanctity of the pilgrimage, and respect religious traditions throughout the journey.He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the police, district administration, health department, sanitation workers, environmental volunteers, NGOs, and all personnel engaged in service during the Kanwar Yatra. He said that the successful organisation of such a massive event is possible only through collective commitment and teamwork.Chief minister Dhami also honoured five police personnel and five sanitation workers (Paryavaran Mitras) for their outstanding contribution to the successful management of the Kanwar Yatra. But a quieter transformation is taking shape across India, where AI is increasingly being used to tackle some of the country’s most persistent development challenges, from helping farmers cope with climate change to assisting teachers in rural classrooms, improving TB screening and making govt services available in multiple languages.According to MeitY, India’s digital economy contributed Rs 31.6 lakh crore, or 11.7% of the GDP, in 2022-23. By 2030, that share is expected to approach one-fifth of the economy. Farmers increasingly face unpredictable rainfall, pest outbreaks, and rising temperatures, while agricultural extension services remain stretched. AI-powered advisory platforms help bridge that gap.Farmer.Chat, developed by Digital Green, provides advice through voice, text, images and videos in local languages. It offers recommendations tailored to crops, soils, weather, and local conditions. The platform reportedly expanded from 15,000 to 250,000 Indian users within a year while costing less than per farmer annually. Digital Green also says it has reduced the cost of introducing a new farming practice from to under by using AI-driven advisory systems.Non-profit institute Wadhwani AI uses similar technologies at a larger systems level. Its AI tools are now reported to have reached more than 190 million people. The organisation says its solutions have helped prioritise over 35,000 villages for tuberculosis screening, supported nearly 2.7 lakh teachers, delivered personalised learning support to 7.9 million students and resolved more than 5 million agricultural grievances.Healthcare is seeing practical applications. Startup Qure.ai has developed an AI system that analyses chest X-rays for tuberculosis. A Health Technology Assessment by the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar reportedly found the technology to be more cost-effective than conventional screening pathways.
