A security official was killed on Sunday after unidentified gunmen opened fire in northwest Pakistan, police said, according to news agency PTI.The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Badaber Police Station on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.According to police, two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle targeted the official, who was posted with the Counter Terrorism Department.He was killed on the spot, while the assailants fled the scene following the attack. Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.Five policemen injured in grenade attackIn a separate incident in Mohmand district, five policemen were injured when two unidentified men hurled a hand grenade at a police post in Ambar tehsil, police said.Police retaliated with gunfire, forcing the attackers to flee. The injured policemen were taken to a nearby hospital and are said to be out of danger. An investigation is underway.Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed recurring militant violence, cross-border movement of fighters and military operations.Pakistan’s federal government has blamed the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for attacks in areas bordering Afghanistan since a ceasefire agreement between the two sides ended in November 2022.
