. NEW DELHI: Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Tuesday to present him with a Bastar 2.0 development blueprint, aimed at transformation of the once Naxal-infested region into a hub for infrastructure expansion, innovation-led growth, start-ups and tourism. Bastar was recently declared as free from Left-wing extremism after all CPI(Maoist) leaders of standing were either eliminated or chose to surrender. The region, which had borne the brunt of Naxal violence for decades, depriving the local tribals of benefits of development and welfare schemes, is now the focus of a major development and welfare push. Presenting a forward-looking vision for Bastar’s development, Sai, during discussions with the prime minister, highlighted the region’s growth potential and outlined a transformative approach to accelerate economic progress and improve the quality of life of its people. The chief minister also invited the prime minister to visit Bastar during the monsoon season, for laying foundation stones of several projects and inaugurating key initiatives aimed at ushering in a new era of growth. The projects include the Raoghat–Jagdalpur railway line, expansion of Jagdalpur airport, a super-specialty hospital, a medical college in Dantewada, and the development of ‘education cities’ in Jagargunda and Orchha. The Bastar blueprint, Sai underlined, is built around the core strategy of “saturate, connect, facilitate, empower, and engage”. “This approach aims to ensure rapid and inclusive expansion of basic infrastructure and essential services across the region. A key focus is on integrating remote and previously isolated villages into the mainstream through a robust road network….the plan includes the construction of 228 new roads and 267 bridges,” a Chhattisgarh govt official told TOI.To boost livelihoods, the state government has outlined a focused three-year plan aimed at doubling household incomes. The objective is to raise the monthly earnings of nearly 85% of families from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 by 2029, thereby improving overall economic stability in the region. In the tourism sector, key destinations such as Chitrakote and Tirathgarh Waterfalls, along with Kanger Valley National Park, are being developed with enhanced infrastructure and visitor facilities. Adventure tourism projects, including a canopy walk and a glass bridge, are also underway to attract a wider range of tourists. . NEW DELHI: Indian airlines have cancelled over 10,000 flights to West Asia since the start of the US-Iran war on Feb 28. Aviation ministry joint secretary Asangba Chuba Ao said Tuesday Indian airlines on an average had 300-350 daily flights to West Asia, a number that is now down to 80-90. Apart from monetary losses caused by this decline, airlines now have to take much longer routes to and from the west at a time when aviation turbine fuel prices (ATF) prices have increased globally.Chuba Ao said: “The aviation ministry is actively working with all stakeholders… exploring all means of who we can support the industry, especially airlines and to bring down the cost which eventually will be passed on to consumers. All measures are being explored to ensure that the sector remains buoyant.”The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had recently granted a temporary relaxation in flight duty time limitations (FDTL) for pilots operating long-haul flights to and from the west, allowing fatigued pilots to fly for longer than before due to the longer routes flights have to take now. The relaxation is valid till April 30. “It will be revisited. We still have some time. It is an evolving situation and taking into consideration what happens in coming days, this dispensation will be relooked at. If required, we will take the necessary call at that point of time,’ he said.Meanwhile, after IndiGo, Air India has also hiked fuel surcharge due to aviation turbine fuel (ATF) base prices more than doubling for international flights and increasing by 25% for domestic ones. From Wednesday morning, Air India domestic fuel surcharge will be revised from a flat Rs 399 to between Rs 299 and 899 depending on distance. The old fuel surcharge of Rs 399 for SAARC flights will increase to . The raids led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons, including four AK assault rifles, pistols, hand grenades, and electronic gadgets. The operation, which began on March 31 and was monitored by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, who camped in Srinagar, has unveiled the funding and financial pattern of the LeT, officials said.Officials said that three Srinagar residents identified as Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat, Adil Rashid Bhat, and Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias Mama were among the five arrested. They are accused of providing shelter, food, and logistical support to the terrorists. The elaborate network began to unravel on March 31 when the first of the three Srinagar residents, Naqeeb Bhat, was arrested from the Pandach area along with a pistol and other incriminating material.During his questioning, he said that he was part of the LeT and procured the arms and ammunition from another associate, Adil Rashid of Zakoora. He also provided support to foreign terrorists, the officials said.Who are the two Pakistani terroristsAccording to officials, the two Pakistani terrorists are categorised as “A+” grade militants. They infiltrated India approximately 16 years ago and remained active across various districts of the Kashmir Valley, commanding around 40 foreign terrorists over the years, most of whom have since been neutralised, the officials said.Officials said that Abdullah and Usman may have used false identities to move outside the Valley. Probe findings also suggest that one foreign terrorist managed to travel outside the country on a valid passport made from forged documents.More arrests could be in the offing, with the investigation in progress to identify additional associates, financiers, facilitators, safe houses, and inter-state linkages, they said.Incriminating material has been seized from several hideouts in various parts of Srinagar and other cities.
