IIT Madras (Image/PTI) NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Madras-led digital learning platform SWAYAM Plus has launched three new beginner-friendly artificial intelligence (AI) courses under its ‘AI for All’ campaign, expanding access to foundational AI skills as the platform completes two years of operations.The courses — AI for Aspiring Engineers, AI for Administrators, and Prompt Engineering — have been developed in partnership with IITM Pravartak. They are designed for learners with no prior coding or AI background and focus on practical, real-world applications across domains.The courses were launched by IIT-M director V Kamakoti on Friday marking the platform’s second anniversary which brought together representatives from government, industry, academia and the learner community, and also recognised key partners and top-performing learners.Registrations for all three courses are currently open on the SWAYAM Plus portal, with the last date set as May 10, 2026.Among the offerings, AI for Aspiring Engineers aims to equip students transitioning from school to engineering with foundational knowledge of Python, AI and machine learning using engineering datasets. The course is priced at Rs 500 plus GST.AI for Administrators is targeted at management professionals, focusing on decision-making using AI, machine learning and generative AI tools. It is priced at Rs 100 plus GST.The Prompt Engineering course introduces learners to interacting effectively with AI systems to generate accurate outputs, and is also priced at Rs 100 plus GST.Highlighting the platform’s growth, SWAYAM Plus coordinator and IIT-M dean (planning) R Sarathi said the initiative, backed by the ministry of education, has expanded rapidly since its launch.“SWAYAM Plus… has successfully completed two years. Since its inception, the platform has grown significantly, now hosting over 500 online courses across more than 15 sectors… To date, over 5.50 lakh learners have registered,” he said.The ‘AI for All’ campaign, launched in May 2025, has already seen strong uptake. MM Naravane (Image/PTI) NEW DELHI: Former Army Chief General (Retd) M M Naravane on Friday said that the armed forces must be kept away from political narratives, while clarifying that individual personnel still retain democratic rights such as voting and personal political views.Speaking to reporters, Naravane stressed the need to maintain institutional neutrality of the armed forces amid political debates. “The armed forces should be kept as far away from politics as possible. The Indian armed forces pride themselves on being a very apolitical Army, Navy, Air Force,” he said. He added that this principle is essential for India’s democratic framework.“If you see what is happening in the country’s periphery, it is a strength that we have never even sought to get involved in political matters and that’s what makes our country strong. That’s what makes our democracy strong, that we are one of the pillars of governance, along with the judiciary and the press. This is a strong pillar on which the country is doing so well.”However, Naravane clarified that institutional neutrality does not mean denial of individual rights.“But that does not mean that we cannot have our own political affiliations, that we cannot cast our vote. You have to differentiate between the organisation and the individual. As an organisation, we are totally apolitical. But as individuals, we have full democratic rights to cast our vote.”What triggered the row?
