According to the 2011 Census, there were 649,481 villages in India.Isro has made this satellite data available to govt organisations. “This dataset supports gram panchayat development plans and is integrated as one of the information layers on the Grammanchitra (village map) web portal of the ministry of panchayati raj, enabling stronger, data-driven governance at the grassroots,” Isro posted on X on Friday. Grammanchitra web portal is a tool designed to help local bodies make data-driven development decisions. The mapping of villages will help in effective preparations of gram panchayat development plans, will enable data-driven decision-making and will aid in identifying land resources and usage patterns. Overall, it will improve transparency and accountability in implementation of govt projects in rural India. This effort is part of a larger initiative to use satellite imagery, including data from Isro’s Bhuvan geoportal, for disaster management, agricultural planning, and infrastructure development across rural and remote areas. Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari (File photo) NEW DELHI: The road transport ministry has proposed new vehicle standards — provision of testing AC and heating system in agricultural tractors; and type approval norm for troop carriers (defence or police) and trailer caravans in India. As per the draft automotive industry standards (AIS), the norms for type approval for caravans has gained currency considering that caravan tourism has become popular owing to the freedom and flexibility it provides, while holidaying vis-à-vis itineraries and accommodation. It said trailer caravans are a unique tourism product being used for the purpose of travel, leisure and accommodation to promote tours even in destinations which are not having adequate hotel accommodation. The standard proposed for AC cabins in agricultural tractors will bring relief to farmers and others who often work in harsh weather conditions. The proposed standard will be applicable to agricultural and forestry tractors which come fitted with cabins and are provided with AC system, except the hybrid electric and pure electric agricultural tractors.TOI has learnt that the ministry has proposed specific norms for “Type Approval of Troop Carriers” considering that these are built on chassis of buses or trucks. Changes are made to meet the operational requirement and this, in some cases, become a hurdle for registration of these vehicles. These vehicles usually have additional provisions for carrying equipment for maintaining law and order and internal security, performing duties in peace and war.The proposed standard specifies the norms for getting the type approvals by the original manufacturers or the body builders. Once they obtain the type approval, registration of such vehicles will be smooth, officials said.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideos“Fix Delhi And Pahalgam First” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Launches Fierce Attack On BJP“TMC’s Time Is Over” Amit Shah Tears Into TMC Over Infiltrators During Bengal RallyPassport Row Escalates: Pawan Khera Approaches Supreme Court After Gauhati HC Rejects Bail PleaBJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi Attacks TMC, Raises RG Kar Case And Law And Order ConcernsPM Narendra Modi To Inaugurate 594 Km Ganga Expressway In Uttar Pradesh On April 29“India Expands Global Trade Reach” Union Minister Piyush Goyal On NZ FTAMarathi Mandatory In Maharashtra From May 1 |CM Fadnavis Pushes Language Rule For Auto, Taxi Drivers“TMC Is Protecting Goons In Sandeshkhali” PM Modi’s Big Charge At RallyBJP Destroyed All Good Work” Kejriwal Says Schemes Will Be Scrapped In West BengalAAP Seeks Disqualification Of 7 Rajya Sabha MPs Who Joined BJP, Legal Battle On Anti-Defection Law123PhotostoriesFrom facing trolls over husband Shardul Bayas’ past divorces to choosing not to have kids, Nehha Pendse opens up about her career, marriage, and lifeRhea Chakraborty gets relief in Sushant Singh Rajput case: What court said on unfreezing bank accounts and what it means6 foods that spoil faster than most people realise in summerCan a low birth weight increase stroke risk even in healthy adults?Growing persimmon at home?
