IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Chennai evacuated after smoke detected during taxiing
BENGALURU: Passengers onboard an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Chennai were evacuated on Tuesday after smoke was detected in the aircraft while it was taxiing for departure at Bengaluru airport.According to an IndiGo spokesperson, the incident involved flight 6E 6017 operating from Bengaluru to Chennai.“While the aircraft was taxiing out to the runway for departure,…
In response to the recent flight disruptions, IndiGo’s chairman, Vikram Singh Mehta, extended his sincerest apologies, emphasizing that these disruptions were not intentional. He confirmed that the airline will engage external experts to delve into the root causes and implement measures for improvement. Mehta reassured that compliance with new pilot rest regulations was strictly upheld, prioritizing passenger safety. Vikram Singh Mehta (right) / File photo NEW DELHI: Under govt scrutiny for unprecedented flight disruptions, IndiGo chairman Vikram Singh Mehta on Wednesday denied the same were deliberate. Apologising multiple times in his about 8-minute video message, he said “external technical experts (will) work with the management; help determine the root causes, and ensure corrective action so that this level of disruption never occurs again.”The DGCA is probing IndiGo’s fiasco that unfolded this month. It is examining whether the airline caused the same to avoid abiding by the new pilot rest rules. Mehta denied the same.“Over the past week there has been a ot of criticism. Some fair. Some not. The fair criticism is that the airline let down you down. We owe answers to customers, govt, shareholders, employees. We will examine every aspect of what went wrong. We will learn from it,” he said.“However, there are some allegations that are untrue. That IndiGo engineered the crisis. That we tried to influence govt rules. That we compromised safety. That the board was not involved. These claims are incorrect. IndiGo has followed the pilot fatigue rules as they came into effect. We operated under the new rules throughout, both in July and in Nov. We did not attempt to bypass them. Nor did we anything that impacted our unblemished track record of safety. The disruptions of last week did not happen because of any deliberate actions,” said the former chairman of Shell Group of companies in India.“On Dec 3, an unexpected chain of events led to large scale flight cancellations. This continued into Dec 4 & 5. Thousands of our passengers were left stranded. We did not meet your expectations during those days. This happened because of a combination of of internal and external events including minor technical glitches; schedule changes linked to start of winter; adverse weather conditions; increased congestion in the aviation system and implementation of and operation under the updated crew rostering rules. This is not an excuse, this is simply the truth. This combination of events pushed our systems beyond their limits,” Mehta said.He said the board was constantly involved in tackling the issue and that things are back on track much before expected. The airline operated 1,900 flights to 138 destinations with normal punctuality, he said.Although he admitted: “Last week’s events are a blemish on this company’s pristine record. Our compay has erred. It has to win back your trust. It will not be easy. It will depend on actions and not words. It will be a journey.”End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosMicrosoft’s Biggest Asia Investment Yet: What The $17.5 Billion India Push Really Means ExplainedOwaisi Calls SIR a ‘Backdoor NRC’ in Lok Sabha, Warns of Selective Religious DisenfranchisementVande Mataram: Priyanka Chaturvedi Urges Parliament To Correct ‘WhatsApp Version’ Of India’s HistoryRahul Gandhi’s ‘Open Challenge’ To Amit Shah In Lok Sabha Over SIR Gets ‘I Will Decide’ ReplyExplained: The Sindhudesh Push In Karachi And The Historical Fractures Driving Pakistan’s TurmoilIndiGo’s 5% Flight Cut Explained: Causes, Impact on Routes, and the Ripple Effects on PassengersMicrosoft CEO ‘Thrilled’ About India’s Growing Data Centre Capacity, Details Meet With PM ModiRussian FM Lavrov Praises India, Calls Putin’s Delhi Visit Proof Of Strong Converging ObjectivesAAP’s Raghav Chadha Recites Moving Poem On 150 Years Of Vande MataramPiyush Goyal Says India-US Trade Talks Progressing Steadily As Both Sides Push For Big Breakthrough123Photostories’Dhurandhar’ star Sara Arjun just served the most elegant floral moment of the season‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’: Bollywood movies that brought infamous gangsters Alive6 powerful Shiv Mantras and how reciting them regularly can bring in a transformative experience in lifeSHE Travels: 9 beach holidays in India perfect for your next girls’ trip7 daily winter soups for better digestion, immunity & energy5 vegetables that are healthier raw than cooked8 weakest currencies in the world10 most romantic quotes by Rumi that still feel magicalChef Pankaj Bhadoria explains which type of roti should be consumed in which seasonDiwali now in UNESCO’s cultural heritage list, 5 other festivals and traditions that have made it to the list123Hot PicksIndia US DealMutual Fund AdvisorSpiceJet FlightGold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays NovemberBank Holidays NovemberTop TrendingGracie MansionUAE Player TimingAnthony Richardson InjuryTriston JarryVenus Williams and Andrea Net WorthSlient Hill 1 Remake Release DateRafael Nadal and Mery Net WorthTrey Benson Injury updateCheat Codes in Red Dead RedemptionGurgaon Man Chicken Momos

– NEW DELHI: Isro will usher in the new year with the first launch of 2026 — PSLV C62 mission — on Monday (January 12) at 10.17 am from the first launchpad at the Sriharikota spaceport. The rocket will launch an advanced earth observation satellite EOS-N1 (codenamed ‘Anvesha’), another ‘eye in the sky’ that will boost India’s surveillance powers from space. Besides the primary payload EOS-N1, PSLV will also be carrying an European demonstrator satellite and 17 other satellites belonging to Indian and foreign agencies.EOS-N1 is a hyperspectral imaging satellite developed primarily for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It is capable of “seeing” in hundreds of wavelengths to identify materials on the ground—making it a high-priority asset for national security and surveillance. It will help India secure its borders because of its advanced remote sensing capabilities and will also be used in various fields such as agriculture, urban mapping and environmental observation.Besides EOS-N1, 18 secondary payloads, including Europe’s Kestrel Initial Demonstrator (KID), will piggyback on the primary satellite and will be placed in space. The KID mission will feature an experimental re-entry of a small capsule in collaboration with a Spanish startup, with a planned splashdown in the South Pacific Ocean. Other secondary payloads are cubesats from Indian startups and universities, including OrbitAID’s AayulSAT, CV Raman Global University’s CGUSAT-1, Dhruva Space’s DA-1, Space Kidz India’s SR-2, Assam Don Bosco University’s Lachit-1, Akshath Aerospace’s Solaras-S4 and Dayanand Sagar University’s DSAT-1.Bengaluru-based space startup OrbitAID Aerospace is set to make history with AayulSAT, India’s first on-orbit satellite refuelling payload. AayulSAT aims to extend satellite lifespans by enabling refuelling and servicing in orbit, addressing space debris and sustainability challenges. The upcoming PSLVC62 mission is also seen as a comeback for the PSLV programme following the earlier setback with PSLV-C61 in May 2025. The earlier PSLV-C61 mission had failed to launch EOS-09 earth observation satellite due to a technical issue in the rocket’s third stage, specifically a drop in chamber pressure, preventing the satellite from reaching its intended sun-synchronous polar orbit. While the first two stages performed normally, the anomaly in the third stage led to the mission failure.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosImran Khan’s Family Stages Prayer Protest After Being Barred From Meeting Him At Adiala JailImran Khan’s Sister Aleema, PTI Members Hold Prayers Outside Adiala Jail After Meet DeniedTharoor Flags UN Charter Violations, Voices Concern Over US Action In VenezuelaUS Issues Blunt Warning To Indian Students: Breaking Laws May Cost Visas, Careers And Future DreamsCongress-BJP Tie-Up Claims In Ambernath Create Rift, Put Mahayuti Alliance Under Fresh Strain“Worst Kind of Discrimination in PoJK”: UKPNP Chairman Flags Deepening CrisisNo Compromise On Terror: PM Modi, Benjamin Netanyahu Reaffirm India Israel Strategic PartnershipOwaisi Slams MCD Demolition, Says Turkman Gate Land Fully Belongs To WaqfNehru Catered To Liaquat Ali Khan, Ignored Somnath History: BJP MP Sudhanshu TrivediUS FARA Filings Expose How Pakistan Lobbied Washington To Somehow Stop India’s Operation Sindoor123PhotostoriesHow to grow spinach in winterAkshay Kumar–Priyadarshan to Shahid Kapoor–Vishal Bhardwaj: Why 2026 is all about Bollywood’s trusted collaborations7 animals that build amazing homes5 Tamil romantic thrillers to binge on OTT5 signs of emotionally unavailable partnersFrom films to music, the lesser known sides of ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ director Farhan Akhtar9 mistakes to avoid while making biryani at homeWinter Special: How to make traditional Besan Ka Sheera at home5 adorable-looking animals that are surprisingly deadly5 red flags people often ignore in friendships (But shouldn’t!)123Hot PicksSenior Citizens Savings SchemeMaharashtra civic pollsGold rate todayStock Market TodayCigarette price hikePublic holidays January 2026Bank Holidays JanuaryTop TrendingLebron JamesTommy Fleetwood and Clare Fleetwood Net WorthTravis KelceTaylor SwiftJimmie Johnson Net WorthEdward CabreraJamahal HillValentino Rossi and Francesca Sofia Novello Net WorthBrad Marchand Net WorthNHL Trade Rumor

. SRINAGAR: Holding two shrines and their attached properties in Kishtwar district to be waqf, the Jammu and Kashmir high court has ruled, in a case dating back nearly five decades, that petitioners claiming to be hereditary custodians of the mausoleums have no ownership rights. Property titles must be decided on evidence, not based on public history, the court said.“It is clear that it is only in the matters of public history that the court can rely upon appropriate books or documents of reference. Whether a person is or is not holding a title to a particular property cannot be a question of fact of public history,” a single bench of Justice Sanjay Dhar observed in its judgment last week. The petitioners had relied on history books and records in support of their claim. The case, which the court called having a “long-chequered history”, dated back to 1979, when the petitioners approached HC claiming to be ‘Sajjada Nasheens’ or hereditary caretakers of the shrines of Ziarat Farid-ud-Din Sahib and Ziarat Assrar-ud-Din Sahib, and asserting exclusive ownership over the shrines and the properties attached to them. They moved HC after Doda deputy commissioner in 1978 described the shrines as waqf properties. In 1998, a single bench of J&K high court dismissed the plea, and a division bench upheld it in 2003. However, the Supreme Court in 2013 set aside the division bench ruling and remanded the matter for fresh consideration to HC.In his judgment, Justice Sanjay Dhar dwelt upon the history of Kishtwar and the two shrines. Kishtwar was an independent state before its annexation by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1821. Around 1681, its ruler Raja Kirat Singh converted to Islam.Shah Farid-ud-Din Sahib, who arrived in Kishtwar in the 17th century, and his son Shah Assrar-ud-Din Sahib, were revered saints whose mausoleums became prominent shrines, and still continue to draw a large number of devotees. The petitioners claimed hereditary rights over the shrines, stating that 20 kanals of land had been granted by Kirat Singh to his granddaughter, who was married to one of their ancestors. They argued that the properties, in which they have built houses, were private and not waqf, as no such formal dedication had been made by its owner, Raja Kirat Singh. However, Justice Dhar said: “The petitioners have not placed on record any cogent and convincing material that would rebut the presumption attached to the entries in the ‘jamabandi’ (revenue records). Therefore, it cannot be stated that the petitioners or their ancestors were the owners of the ziarat and the land attached thereto.”On the history books referred to by the petitioners to back their claims, the court said the facts relating to the properties mentioned in those books “cannot be used to prove the title of the petitioners”.The petitioners also cited a waqf official’s report of 1969 recognising the hereditary role of Sajjada Nasheens, but HC said the official had no authority to decide title. While HC upheld the inclusion of the shrines under waqf, the petitioners were allowed to continue to occupy the residential premises on the land as lessees under applicable waqf rules.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosManipur Erupts Again After Deadly Blast Kills 2 Children; Curfew Imposed, Internet Shutdown’Avoid Military Areas, Stay Indoors’: India Issues Advisory For Indians In Iran As Tensions RiseManipur Erupts Again: Curfew, Internet Shutdown As Violence Returns Over Killing Of Two ChildrenTejas Back In Air After Setbacks, But Reliability And Delays Raise Fresh Questions’Target Of Akhand Bharat’: Pakistan Senator Sounds Alarm Over Growing India-UAE Ties’At The Behest Of Mamata’: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s Shocking Claim On Pakistan’s Kolkata ThreatIndia Seeks US Waiver On Chabahar Amid Conflict; Iran Envoy Hints At Key Port Revival After WarBJP Calls Kharge’s ‘Snake’ Remark Dangerous, Alleges Communal ProvocationAssam Passport Row Turns Personal: Himanta Sarma Takes ‘Peda’ Jibe At Pawan Khera, Congress Responds’Pakistan Will Be Divided Into…’: Rajnath Singh’s Strong Response To Khawaja Asif’s Kolkata Threat123PhotostoriesWhy this is the only Indian dish among the 50 Best Bean Dishes in the World5 fun and unusual vacation ideas for the summer holidays in IndiaStep inside Kapil Dev’s Delhi residence that defines understated luxurySimple remedies to attract wealth based on your numberHappy birthday Jackie Chan: ‘Drunken Master’, ‘Police Story’ to ‘Rush Hour’ – The legend’s greatest hitsHeartbroken? 7 inspiring quotes on why this isn’t the end of your storyBrad Pitt, Tom Cruise and more: Hollywood stars who adore Bollywood actors, trends and movies4 non-negotiable rules for a healthy relationshipTamil Nadu’s Buckingham Canal gets Rs 45 crore makeover: Walkways, cycling tracks, Miyawaki forests planned7 career mistakes that stop smart people from growing, and how to fix them123Hot PicksLuka Doncic InjuryUpdated IPL Points TableOil PriceSilver Rate TodayLPG NewsPublic holidays April 2026Bank Holidays AprilTop TrendingRory McilroyBlake LivelyKerala pollsWest Bengal assembly electionEA FC 26 Team of the SeasonKerala ElectionStrait of HormuzIPL Points TableSchool Holidays in AprilKarnataka 2nd PUC Exam Result Date
