NIA court denies bail to woman facing trial in Pulwama terror attack case, asks jail authorities to provide medical care
JAMMU: An NIA court here has rejected the bail application of Insha Jan alias Insha Tariq, an accused facing trial in the Pulwama terror attack conspiracy case, stating that the trial was underway and witnesses were being examined, and her release at this stage could carry the risk of influencing key prosecution witnesses.Dismissing the plea, special judge Prem Sagar Thursday said the prosecution material relied upon against the accused still required corroboration from other witnesses who were yet to be examined.The court, however, directed Baramulla district jail authorities to provide necessary medical care required by the accused and submit a compliance report to it every fortnight.Insha sought bail on the grounds of prolonged incarceration, delay in trial and medical ailments. The defence argued that prolonged incarceration had seriously affected her health and that she was suffering from chronic dermatological problems, cervical spondylosis and chronic oculogenic headache.The court, however, found that the medical condition was not life-threatening to warrant urgent release.

Insha is facing trial under various provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code, Arms Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act, and has remained in custody for more than six years.Insha and her father Peer Tariq Ahmad Shah were arrested by NIA on March 3, 2020 in connection with the Pulwama terror attack that killed 40 CRPF personnel on Feb 14, 2019. They were accused of harbouring Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists at their house and providing food and logistical support to them. Charges were framed against her on Dec 10, 2022.
