NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant on Wednesday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urging him to deline any “recognition, status, privilege or facility” to any “purported faction or breakaway group claiming to represent the party”.”…The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) continues to be recognised as a single political party represented in the House through its duly authorised leader and whip, and that no separate recognition, status, privilege or facility be accorded to any purported faction or breakaway group claiming to represent the party; no decision be taken on any such request, if received, without first affording the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) an opportunity to place its submissions before your office,” the letter said.”The party further reserves all rights available to it in law, including the right to invoke the provisions of the Tenth Schedule and pursue such remedies as may be necessary in relation to any conduct inconsistent with the constitutional principles referred to above,” the letter added.Reports suggest that 6 of the 9 Lok Sabha MPs belonging to the Shiv Sena (UBT) may be preparing to switch allegiance to the Shiv Sena led by deputy CM Eknath Shinde. According to these reports, the MPs could travel to New Delhi and may seek recognition as a separate group in Parliament by submitting a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the coming days. He was on duty when the blaze broke out.Fearing for two colleagues from his village who were working upstairs, he rushed to the first floor to save them. Trapped in the flames, the three barricaded themselves inside a room and smashed open a window using a bathroom bucket before leaping to safety. Rohit ensured that his colleagues got out first. His spine is held together with metal rods and his body has multiple fractures. “I have not received any compensation from either of the govts,” Rohit told TOI. His sister, Renu, who now cares for him full-time, said the family was struggling to survive. “Even if the compensation comes, how will it be enough to sustain our entire family?” she asked.After Rohit jumped out of the burning building, local people rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he got preliminary treatment.For his family, however, the hope of financial stability seems like a distant dream. With no steady income and mounting expenses for medicines, follow-up care and transportation, every day has become a struggle. A local NGO has helped keep the family afloat by providing food over the past two weeks. However, the uncertainty of what lies ahead weighs heavily on them.Before the fire, Rohit earned Rs 12,000 a month, while his wife and sister worked as domestic helps in Malviya Nagar to supplement the family’s income. Rohit’s younger son, aged 9 years, lived with him in Delhi and gets home tutoring. His older son studies in Bihar. With Rohit unable to work and the two women forced to quit their jobs to care for him, the family has been compelled to halt the education of both the kids.Nearly two weeks after the tragedy, the family says it is waiting for the promised compensation. Image: IANS NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Tuesday asked two Ghaziabad hospitals, accused of refusing to treat a semi-conscious minor rape survivor who died on way to a govt hospital, whether they would voluntarily compensate her parents or await the court determining the quantum of compensation.The SC-constituted special investigation team (SIT) found credence in the father’s charge that two private hospitals-Khajan Singh Manvi Health Care and St Joseph Hospital-refused to provide immediate treatment to the sexually assaulted four-year-old child, who was grievously injured. She succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the district govt hospital.Referring to the report, a partial working day bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice V Mohana said “some action is required to be taken” and asked the hospital counsel to remain present on the next date of hearing.Before adjourning the hearing, SC asked the counsel for one of the hospitals how much it would voluntarily pay the parents of the deceased girl? “If you admit negligence and voluntarily compensate the parents, it is fine. Otherwise, we will determine the compensation payable by the hospitals to the parents,” it said.When the father first approached the Supreme Court, a bench led by the CJI had said, “The petition not only reveals this diabolic offence but also highlights the alleged approach of two private hospitals and the officers of the local police station (Nandgram), which is completely indifferent, inhuman and insensitive.”In its order, the bench had recorded that the parents and their relatives’ trauma was aggravated when the local police, instead of taking cognisance of the “horrifying offence, locked them up and physically assaulted them with an admonition to remain silent about the incident”.The apex court had also faulted the doctor who prepared the post-mortem examination report for failing to mention aggravated sexual assault despite recording “several wounds and presence of blood observed on victim’s private parts, apart from injuries on her head and other body parts”.Get the latest India news and live updates. Image: IANS MUMBAI: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted searches at 17 locations across Delhi, Mumbai, and Khandala linked to Suraksha Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (SARCL) promoter Sudhir Valia and other senior executives in connection with an alleged bank fraud case involving the company and Yes Bank’s former co-promoter Rana Kapoor.ED is probing a money laundering case involving alleged collusion between Asset Reconstruction Companies with Yes Bank by engaging in circular transactions to fraudulently take over stressed assets, undervaluation of auctioned properties, inflated and fraudulent claims.ED’s money laundering case is based on a Mumbai Police FIR on a complaint of a director of Sapphire Land Development Ltd, a sister concern of HDIL, against Kapoor, Walia and others. According to the police case, Yes Bank, then headed by Kapoor, allegedly transferred properties worth nearly Rs 1,000 crore to SARCL to recover an outstanding loan of about Rs 150 crore, without first classifying the loan account as a non-performing asset.Sources said when banks transfer bad loans to ARCs, along with mortgage properties, agreements are often entered into regarding sharing of recoveries generated from the sale of mortgaged assets. In the present case, investigators are examining allegations that SARCL sold certain mortgaged properties at undervalued rates to entities linked to its associates, thereby reducing the amount required to be shared with the bank.
