NEW DELHI: For the second successive year, Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, organised by ministry of external affairs in coordination with Chinese govt, will take place from June to Aug 2026. File photo NEW DELHI: The onus of disproving suspicions about the legitimacy of late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s purported will lies on his wife Priya Kapur, Delhi high court said Thursday, directing that his Rs 30,000-crore estate be frozen until all doubts are settled, reports. “The legitimate suspicious circumstances raised by the plaintiffs will have to be completely removed by defendant number one (Priya Kapur) before the document is accepted as the last will,” Justice Jyoti Singh said.She said the plaintiffs had “made out a prima facie case the assets need to be protected and preserved pending disposal of the suit”.Priya’s claims citing the will have been challenged by Sunjay’s children from his previous marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor.If the assets aren’t preserved and Priya ultimately fails to prove the will’s validity, Sunjay and Karisma’s children Samaira and Kiaan, besides his mother Rani Kapur, would be deprived of their legitimate share of the estate, the judge said.The interim order freezes equity shareholdings in three Indian companies held by the deceased and restrains disposal of his personal effects, including artwork.Priya has been barred from drawing from her late husband’s provident fund or touching funds in his Indian bank accounts unless the withdrawals are to meet Sunjay’s obligations related to his divorce from Karisma. The court also barred her from operating foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency assets.The order isn’t binding on Sunjay’s immovable foreign assets. Priya’s legal team had argued that these were out of HC’s purview on jurisdictional grounds.Sunjay died on July 12 last year after collapsing during a polo match in England. DHAKA: Bangladesh on Thursday summoned acting Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pawan Badhe and protested the remarks made by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and stressed avoiding comments that might hurt bilateral ties.Director General (South Asia) Ishrat Jahan conveyed Dhaka’s position to the acting Indian high commissioner during a meeting at the ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA). Bangladesh described the remarks as disparaging to Bangladesh-India relations and expressed its displeasure to India, said a diplomatic source. The MoFA, however, did not issue any official statement.Sarma on April 26 said 20 foreign nationals were apprehended in Assam and pushed back to Bangladesh.“Rude people don’t understand soft language. We continuously remind ourselves of this prophetic line when we expel infiltrators from Assam who don’t leave themselves. DHAKA: Bangladesh on Thursday summoned acting Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pawan Badhe and protested the remarks made by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and stressed avoiding comments that might hurt bilateral ties.Director General (South Asia) Ishrat Jahan conveyed Dhaka’s position to the acting Indian high commissioner during a meeting at the ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA). Bangladesh described the remarks as disparaging to Bangladesh-India relations and expressed its displeasure to India, said a diplomatic source. The MoFA, however, did not issue any official statement.Sarma on April 26 said 20 foreign nationals were apprehended in Assam and pushed back to Bangladesh.“Rude people don’t understand soft language. We continuously remind ourselves of this prophetic line when we expel infiltrators from Assam who don’t leave themselves. Security personnel on patrol in Raiganj ahead of Bengal poll results NEW DELHI: Even before counting takes place, the Election Commission is preparing for the post-results scenario in West Bengal by retaining around 70,000 central forces personnel in the state for continued vigil, particularly in pockets with a history of post-poll violence, and initiating strict action against any attempts to target political rivals.As part of security arrangements to prevent a repeat of the 2021 post-poll violence — which, as per the then DGP’s report sent to an NHRC inquiry committee, had seen 1,934 incidents including murder, sexual assault, arson and grievous hurt — control rooms are to be set up at the EC’s headquarters, Nirvachan Sadan, and the office of the Bengal chief electoral officer to monitor the situation on counting day, May 4, and direct immediate action in case of any untoward incident.Forces still stationed in Bengal will keep strict vigil in vulnerable pockets that witnessed violence in 2021, and anyone found to be involved in any attempt at violence will face strict action as per law.As per the 2021 NHRC inquiry report, there was organised, widespread and targeted violence based on political affiliation across multiple districts in the months following counting. The 1,934 incidents of post-poll violence included murder (29), sexual assault (12), grievous hurt (391), arson/vandalism (940) and intimidation (562). Though 9,304 persons were accused, only 1,345 were arrested. The NHRC probe found that FIRs were not registered in 60% of complaints.In a recent PIL filed in the Supreme Court, a plea was made to direct the constitution of a high-level monitoring committee under a retired judge to oversee the functioning of law and order machinery in Bengal.
