NEET counselling pushes MBBS session by a week NEW DELHI: The MBBS academic session for the 2026-27 batch, scheduled to begin on Sept 8, is likely to be delayed by around a week as the NEET-UG counselling schedule has been extended amid court cases and requests from students for additional time to join colleges.Round 2 of counselling has been extended till Sept 18, while subsequent rounds are expected to continue into Oct.A health ministry official said the delay is likely to be limited, with the academic session expected to begin around Sept 15, without waiting for the entire counselling process to conclude. He followed it up with a message to Putin in Moscow in 2024 – in the midst of outrage in the West over his Russia visit – that no solution can be found on the battlefield.India’s balancing act on the war saw Modi travelling to Ukraine a few months after his visit to Russia in 2024.Modi told Putin in Bishkek that India supports all efforts for peace and will continue to do so in future. “Every day spent on the war pushes humanity back. And every step taken towards peace fills humanity with new hope and enthusiasm. We will have to move from an endless war to an end of war, which is very important for humanity’s well-being,” said the PM.“That all issues are resolved peacefully as soon as possible is the call of humanity. This is the message of India. This is the message of the land of Gandhi and the land of Buddha — the path to peace,” said Modi, adding that he was looking forward to welcoming Putin for the Brics summit.According to foreign secretary Vikram Misri, PM Modi conveyed to Putin India’s readiness to do whatever is feasible and necessary to move the conflict towards an end because “it is exacting a very heavy toll on the global community at large”.“Had extensive discussions with President Putin. Discussed the full range of the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. It is gladdening to see significant progress across various sectors in recent years,” Modi said on X.In his own televised statement, Putin acknowledged Modi’s personal attention to the development of bilateral ties. Bihar and Jharkhand signed a Sone river water-sharing agreement, resolving a long-standing dispute and ensuring water for irrigation and drinking needs. NCTAU warns of financial fraud via malicious apps disguised as porn apps that take control of devices. NEW DELHI: The National Cybercrime Threat Analytics unit (NCTAU), under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), has warned users of financial fraud through sideloaded malicious Android apps masquerading as porn apps which, when downloaded, take control of users’ devices by abusing accessibility permissions.NCTAU said misleading Facebook and Instagram ads under the names Night Play, Reloop, Kyss, Riva, Vima, Nexo and Vixa were redirecting users to phishing websites featuring pornographic content, with a prompt to download the APK file from outside the Google Play Store. BJP and Congress spar over FIR against Rahul Gandhi after his demand for action over Haldwani rally venue ‘purification’ remarks. NEW DELHI: The war of words between BJP and Congress escalated Monday as the opposition party slammed the FIR against Rahul Gandhi after he demanded action over “purification” of the Haldwani rally venue as reflective of his rival’s “abhorrently casteist behaviour” and BJP saying he was belatedly raking up the issue because of Mallikharjun Kharge’s threat to quit as Congress chief.The sparring between the two parties came a day after Uttarakhand Police registered a case against Rahul under various BNS sections, besides SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, after the complainant, a Dalit, alleged he had given a caste angle to the cleaning work coupled with a religious ritual at Ramlila Maidan, the rally venue.Congress released a video with the title “cases are my medals” with Rahul’s comments – “There are 36 cases against me. I am not afraid of Narendra Modi. But the truth is if anyone is scared, it is Modi.”Senior Congress functionary Sachin Pilot asked if seeking justice is a crime. “Voice for justice cannot be suppressed under the weight of FIRs.
