We also spoke in detail about the prevailing political scenario,” said Thirumavalavan, noting that discussions continued regarding TVK leader Vijay’s invitation to VCK and other parties.He added, “We have received communication expressing their wish to form the govt along with VCK. He (Vijay) has also spoken to me. We are considering that. But we have to see many other factors before arriving at a decision. So, the governor must give adequate time to TVK to prove its majority on the floor of the House,” said Veerapandian. This is expected to help migrant families, who often lose continuity of care.The platform, developed as an upgraded version of the government’s Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal—which tracks pregnancies, deliveries and child health—creates a longitudinal digital health record for every woman during her reproductive years, covering the full cycle from pregnancy and delivery to postnatal and newborn care, along with family planning.Unlike the earlier RCH system, JANANI offers real-time tracking, QR-based digital records and integration with other health programmes, allowing continuous monitoring and timely intervention.Dr. Rahul Manchanda, Hon. Senior Consultant (Endoscopic Gynecology), PSRI Hospital said that “This can improve key indicators such as maternal and neonatal mortality rates. A major benefit is portability of digital health records, especially for migrant populations, allowing continuity of care across states and cities. At the same time, strong safeguards must be in place to protect patient data and ensure records are accessed only by authorised personnel. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act should also incorporate robust protections for such healthcare platforms.”Officials said JANANI will help ensure that pregnant women and newborns do not miss critical check-ups, vaccinations or follow-ups. The system generates alerts and reminders, and also provides real-time dashboards for monitoring and targeted interventions.It can flag high-risk pregnancies early, allowing doctors to intervene in time and reduce complications.The platform also integrates with other national programmes such as U-WIN, which tracks immunisation, and POSHAN, which focuses on nutrition and child health, improving coordination across services. A major benefit is portability of digital health records, especially for migrant populations, allowing continuity of care across states and cities. At the same time, strong safeguards must be in place to protect patient data and ensure records are accessed only by authorised personnel. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act should also incorporate robust protections for such healthcare platforms.”Officials said JANANI will help ensure that pregnant women and newborns do not miss critical check-ups, vaccinations or follow-ups. The system generates alerts and reminders, and also provides real-time dashboards for monitoring and targeted interventions.It can flag high-risk pregnancies early, allowing doctors to intervene in time and reduce complications.The platform also integrates with other national programmes such as U-WIN, which tracks immunisation, and POSHAN, which focuses on nutrition and child health, improving coordination across services. Rahul Gandhi, MK Stalin CHENNAI: “You called Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu a traitor because he had crossed over to BJP from Congress. Now consider this. You called M K Stalin on Tuesday afternoon and said, ‘I am with you’. The next morning, you defected from the alliance and jumped to the side you had contested against. Rahul Gandhi ji, we just want to know what you would like to be described as?” said a senior DMK MP, reflecting the anger in the Dravidian outfit’s ranks over Congress’ dramatic switch to Tamil star Vijay after his TVK emerged as the single largest party at the cost of DMK and AIADMK. “It is opportunistic to say the least and, also, politically immoral,” said the DMK functionary who has held a ministerial position at the Centre and is supposed to reflect Stalin’s views. “We did not expect this from Rahul after we spared a Rajya Sabha berth for Congress and gave them more seats than what they should have got on the basis of their strength on the ground. They contested 28 but won only five, and that too only because of the groundwork we did for them.” Talking to TOI from Chennai, he dismissed Congress’ explanation that they needed to go with Vijay since he has got the mandate. “This is whitewashing brazen opportunism. How would they have reacted if we had joined hands with BJP at the Centre citing Congress’ successive defeats?” The former Union minister said it was DMK which, among all INDIA bloc partners, consistently stood by Congress even when Rahul’s actions would generate unease among Congress’ members. “In Lok Sabha, they would like to move into the well of the House over different issues, and their own MPs would resist doing that. But we always did as requested, undeterred by the govt’s annoyance with our tactics. Not that we agreed with each decision of theirs. But we went along because we were in an alliance,” he said. “Alliances are run based on mutual trust. Tell me, who among the allies will trust Rahul now? Chandranath Rath’s mother Hasirani, 65, mourns his death BARASAT/DOHARIYA: Bengal police are banking on the testimony of a man identified as Mintu to reconstruct final moments of BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath, who was shot dead near his home in Madhyamgram on Kolkata’s northeastern edge, investigators said Thursday. Rath was returning from Kolkata late on Wednesday when gunmen intercepted his SUV near Dohariya on Jessore Road, close to Kolkata airport in North 24 Parganas district. Witnesses alleged a hatchback blocked the Scorpio before shooters on a bike opened fire at point-blank range. Mintu, believed to be travelling in the SUV, escaped unhurt after ducking between seats. Driver Buddhadeb Bera suffered multiple bullet wounds. “He (Mintu) looked visibly shaken and frightened. I had to tell him we were locals before he rolled down the windows,” said Sushanta Sarkar, among the first people to reach the spot. Sarkar, a trader from Dehoriya Methopara and a BJP worker, said he heard what sounded like crackers while feeding stray. “I thought somebody was celebrating BJP’s win or an IPL moment. Then someone came running and said two people had been shot.” “As I reached closer, I heard groans from inside the SUV. The driver would not open windows. I assured him I was there to help,” he said. “When windows finally opened, there was blood everywhere. Rath was slouched in the front seat and breathing at long intervals,” Sarkar said. He claimed Mintu repeatedly cried out, “Sir, what happened? Why did they fire?” Investigators from the police SIT and Barasat police declined comment on Mintu’s whereabouts. Chandranath Rath’s mother Hasirani, 65, mourns his death BARASAT/DOHARIYA: Bengal police are banking on the testimony of a man identified as Mintu to reconstruct final moments of BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath, who was shot dead near his home in Madhyamgram on Kolkata’s northeastern edge, investigators said Thursday. Rath was returning from Kolkata late on Wednesday when gunmen intercepted his SUV near Dohariya on Jessore Road, close to Kolkata airport in North 24 Parganas district. Witnesses alleged a hatchback blocked the Scorpio before shooters on a bike opened fire at point-blank range. Mintu, believed to be travelling in the SUV, escaped unhurt after ducking between seats. Driver Buddhadeb Bera suffered multiple bullet wounds. “He (Mintu) looked visibly shaken and frightened. I had to tell him we were locals before he rolled down the windows,” said Sushanta Sarkar, among the first people to reach the spot. Sarkar, a trader from Dehoriya Methopara and a BJP worker, said he heard what sounded like crackers while feeding stray. “I thought somebody was celebrating BJP’s win or an IPL moment. Then someone came running and said two people had been shot.” “As I reached closer, I heard groans from inside the SUV. The driver would not open windows. I assured him I was there to help,” he said. “When windows finally opened, there was blood everywhere. Rath was slouched in the front seat and breathing at long intervals,” Sarkar said. He claimed Mintu repeatedly cried out, “Sir, what happened? Why did they fire?” Investigators from the police SIT and Barasat police declined comment on Mintu’s whereabouts.
