Kerala fireworks unit blast NEW DELHI: At least four people were killed and several others sustained burn injuries after a blast at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikode of Kerala’s Thrissur district on Tuesday, officials said. Around 40 people were suspected to have been present at the time of the explosion. A government official who reached the spot said food was being arranged for “40 workers,” indicating that at least that many may have been present. The mishap occurred in a shed where firecrackers were being prepared on behalf of a temple devaswom ahead of the upcoming Thrissur Pooram. According to residents, the explosion occurred around 3:30 pm, and intermittent blasts continued in the area, hampering rescue efforts. Following the incident, Kerala health minister Veena George directed officials to ensure specialised treatment for the injured and make necessary arrangements at Government Medical College, Thrissur, and Thrissur General Hospital.
