Kashmiri urged the UNHRC to establish independent monitoring mechanisms for the two territories and seek accountability for alleged human rights violations. United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) chairman Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri has urged the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to take immediate action over what he described as a worsening human rights situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB).Addressing the 63rd session of the UNHRC under Agenda Item 4, Kashmiri alleged that repression in PoJK had intensified since June 5, 2026. He cited reports of arrests, violence, deaths, injuries, alleged disappearances and restrictions on internet and mobile communications.Kashmiri called for an immediate, independent and impartial investigation into the reported violations. United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) chairman Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri has urged the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to take immediate action over what he described as a worsening human rights situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB).Addressing the 63rd session of the UNHRC under Agenda Item 4, Kashmiri alleged that repression in PoJK had intensified since June 5, 2026. Tibet continues to remain under China’s authoritarian rule. where Tibetans face systematic repression of their fundamental rights, religious freedom; and intensification of measures aimed at erasing its distinct cultural identity,” Lekshay added.Wangchuk, addressing people in Leh on the first anniversary of the Sept 24, 2025 violence, said the alleged breach of promises made to Ladakh over the Sixth Schedule and statehood was the “root cause” of last year’s protests.On September 24 2025, police allegedly opened fire on protesters demanding Sixth Schedule status and statehood for Ladakh after demonstrations turned violent, killing four people and injuring nearly 90.He feared he could be subjected to an “encounter” for speaking out against what he called atrocities in Ladakh, a year after police firing killed four protesters in Leh. Drawing a comparison with Tibet, Wangchuk said Ladakhis had chosen India because of its democracy.“Today, such atrocities are being committed in Ladakh that even China is not doing in Tibet. That is what you are seeing today,” he said.He sought a people’s tribunal to probe the killings, saying a judicial commission set up by Union home ministry had yet to submit its report. “Last year on this day, four people died… Bullets hit their chests, backs, and heads. Those were not pellets that would merely injure you or hurt your eyes. Bullets were fired indiscriminately from automatic weapons, like AK-47s, at the unarmed youth of Ladakh who were peacefully demanding their rights,” Wangchuk alleged. He rejected claims that the protests were triggered by him. He alleged that before the 2020 LAHDC-Leh elections, Ladakhi representatives opposed to holding polls were taken to New Delhi on a special flight and promised statehood and Sixth Schedule status.He blamed “govt failure to honour those promises” for last year’s demonstrations. Authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in Leh after the alleged “arson and rioting” and subsequent police firing last year. FIRs were filed and 81 people arrested, including Wangchuk. He was charged under NSA and sent to Jodhpur jail. Captain Amarinder Singh has expressed disappointment at not being included in discussions regarding Punjab’s political direction NEW DELHI: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has expressed displeasure over not being consulted on matters concerning the state, saying he and other leaders with decades of experience in Punjab politics were not asked for their views.Speaking to PTI, Singh said, “I have spent 60 years in Punjab politics. I am not alone; there are other colleagues with me. We have seen the situation in Punjab over all these years, but at one point, they did not even ask us.”“We are people from here, and it is my duty to tell them what my views and feelings are,” Singh said, according to PTI.Singh, however, said his comments should not be interpreted as an indication that he was leaving the BJP or returning to the Congress.“I have not said that my relevance is no longer there in the Congress or the BJP. Parties keep changing,” he told PTI.“When I was in the Congress, I also went to the Akali Dal over Operation Blue Star and later returned to the Congress. That does not mean I will now leave and join another party,” Singh said.His remarks came amid questions over his political relevance in Punjab and his relationship with the BJP. Captain Amarinder Singh has expressed disappointment at not being included in discussions regarding Punjab’s political direction NEW DELHI: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has expressed displeasure over not being consulted on matters concerning the state, saying he and other leaders with decades of experience in Punjab politics were not asked for their views.Speaking to PTI, Singh said, “I have spent 60 years in Punjab politics. I am not alone; there are other colleagues with me. We have seen the situation in Punjab over all these years, but at one point, they did not even ask us.”“We are people from here, and it is my duty to tell them what my views and feelings are,” Singh said, according to PTI.Singh, however, said his comments should not be interpreted as an indication that he was leaving the BJP or returning to the Congress.“I have not said that my relevance is no longer there in the Congress or the BJP. Parties keep changing,” he told PTI.“When I was in the Congress, I also went to the Akali Dal over Operation Blue Star and later returned to the Congress. That does not mean I will now leave and join another party,” Singh said.His remarks came amid questions over his political relevance in Punjab and his relationship with the BJP. Singh has been with the BJP since leaving the Congress and forming his own party, Punjab Lok Congress, before merging it with the BJP in 2022.AAP attacks AmarinderReacting to Singh’s remarks, Punjab Aam Aadmi Party general secretary and media in-charge Baltej Singh Pannu accused the former chief minister of being an “opportunistic” political leader.“Captain Amarinder Singh is saying that he achieved nothing by joining the BJP. Representative image NEW DELHI: Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed penalties of Rs 10 lakh each on Amazon and Flipkart, and Rs 5 lakh on JioMart, for selling and advertising an unregistered agrochemical product.Cyclosinone Herbicide is marketed for preventing and eliminating weeds.CCPA directed the e-commerce marketplaces to discontinue false advertisements and conduct self-audits to identify products that violate the law or pose a risk to life and safety.Proceedings began after the department of agriculture and farmers’ welfare forwarded a complaint from Crop Care Federation of India. The department said insecticides and pesticides are regulated under Insecticides Act, 1968, and Insecticides Rules. It said no chemical named Cyclosinone was listed in the Act’s Schedule, and the product did not disclose its composition.CCPA rejected the companies’ argument that they could not be held responsible for products listed by third-party sellers.Get the latest India News and Live updates. Tarun Tejpal (PTI photo) NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Friday issued two notices on Tarun Tejpal’s sentencing in a 2013 rape case – one to Goa Police on the journalist’s petition against his 10-year prison term and the second to him on a Goa govt plea seeking enhancement of the sentence.Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Tejpal, submitted before an SC bench that it was a case where the acquittal was reversed by Bombay HC and urged that his bail plea be heard. Solicitor general Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Goa govt, said, “Rape never takes place for years, and only one day is enough.”On Aug 25, SC had directed Tejpal to surrender within three weeks to undergo his 10-year prison sentence, following which he surrendered before the trial court.
