Inspiring story on fatherhood: “I love my girls. They teach me things sometimes when I think that I’m trying to teach them” – How Jason Kelce’s four daughters changed his life beyond football
Jason Kelce spent his NFL career absorbing lessons from coaches, teammates and opponents. But according to the former Philadelphia Eagles center, some of his most meaningful lessons have come from his daughters. Fatherhood has changed the way he sees success, patience and family, giving the retired NFL star a perspective that extends far beyond the football field.
How Jason Kelce found a different kind of success through fatherhood
Kelce became a father while his football career was still developing. He and Kylie Kelce welcomed their first daughter, Wyatt, in 2019, followed by Elliotte in 2021 and Bennett in 2023. Their fourth daughter, Finnley, arrived in March 2025.Raising four children has given Jason and Kylie plenty of chaotic moments. It has also created a family dynamic that the former NFL star clearly treasures.Jason has spoken openly about the difference between trying to teach his children and realizing that they are teaching him, too.“We had zero girls in the household growing up other than Mom [Donna Kelce], so it was a very testosterone-dominated household,” Jason told E! News in September 2023. “But my girls are so young right now. And I only have girls, so I don’t know what it’s like to be a boy dad really. All I know is a girl dad. And I love my girls. I love my children. They teach me things sometimes when I think that I’m trying to teach them.”That admission says plenty about how Kelce views his role as a father. His daughters are not simply growing up around an NFL legend. They are helping shape the person he is becoming after football. He even found himself reflecting on a children’s book in a completely different way.“For instance, I’m reading the kids’ book Oh, The Places You’ll Go! [by] Dr. Seuss, and it’s in the documentary. And I’m like, ‘I feel like I’m getting more out of this than the kids are right now.’”The moment is easy to relate to. Parents often expect to be the ones providing wisdom. Kelce’s experience suggests the relationship works both ways.
Why Jason and Kylie Kelce use a divide-and-conquer approach
Four children can turn an ordinary day into a logistical challenge. Jason and Kylie have learned that teamwork matters.Kylie once explained that they divide responsibilities depending on the children’s ages and needs.“Bennie, I’ve been less on because I’ve been handling Wyatt and Elliotte,” Jason said during a September 2023 episode of his podcast. “Here’s the thing: You gotta have strategies [and] there’s techniques involved.”Kylie added that Jason usually takes responsibility for the toddlers while she handles the newborn. That arrangement reflects something many parents eventually discover. There is no perfect formula for raising children. What works one week may fail the next. Parents have to adjust, communicate and sometimes simply survive the chaos.Kylie has also joked about Jason’s ability to handle baby duty.“I think my headphones cut out,” Kylie joked. “But then, who’s watching you? … I’d probably leave you for one hour. I feel like Travis can stand longer than you can, [Jason]. That’s a game-changer when it comes to watching small babies: Bennett right now, she’s happy as a clam if you get up and walk around with her. [Jason] isn’t willing to make that commitment. His back locks up and then that’s the end of it.”The humor behind the exchange shows the couple’s willingness to laugh at the messy parts of parenting rather than pretend they have everything figured out.
How Kylie Kelce is teaching her daughters confidence and body positivity
Jason’s approach to fatherhood is only one part of the family’s parenting philosophy. Kylie has also spoken about the example parents set through everyday language.During a 2024 appearance on Good Morning America, she explained why she pays close attention to the way she talks about her own body around her daughters.“I am now hyper aware of how I talk about myself and my body. Not only in front of my daughters, but in front of my players,” Kylie explained during a January 2024 appearance on Good Morning America. “I think it’s important to model that positive body talk about yourself because then they are taking that away from what you’re doing.”She wants her daughters to learn self-respect by seeing it modeled at home.“We’re making it a point right now to emphasize a positive tone when we talk about anything bodywise,” she said. “Like our one daughter will sort of rub her belly and I’m like, ‘Oh, that is the most beautiful belly I’ve ever seen.’”It is a lesson that goes beyond appearance. Children absorb the way adults speak about themselves. For the Kelces, creating a healthy environment means thinking carefully about those small moments.
What Jason and Kylie Kelce want their children to learn about life
Fame and wealth could easily create a very different childhood for the Kelce daughters. Jason and Kylie, however, have repeatedly emphasized keeping their children grounded.Kylie explained that family and close friends play an important role in maintaining that sense of normalcy.“We stay surrounded by family and friends, so we keep the people around us very close to us,” Kylie told Us. “Then, we make sure that anything that we’re doing that they feel supported by their family and friends and then also not really putting them in any places of privilege.”She also joked about what she hopes their daughters’ future cars will look like.“[We’re] trying our best to make sure that when they grow up and they turn 16, they will be driving a [used vehicle]. We can’t let them have a hand-me-down car at this point. You’re not getting Dad’s [Tesla] CyberTruck as your hand-me-down. You will be driving a basic model, hopefully, having to roll the windows down with a crank.”The family has also accepted that parenting cannot always be done alone. Kylie has been open about using childcare, even when Jason is at home.“My husband could tell me 72 times that he is going to be in the house during the time when I have to leave it, [and] I will still schedule childcare,” Kylie explained in December 2024, adding it’s “not a knock” on Jason. “My husband is busier than he has ever been. I see him less now in retirement than I did when he was playing football. We had a set schedule then, now it is an absolute free-for-all.”That honesty may be one of the most relatable parts of their parenting story. Behind the fame, the podcasts and the NFL legacy is a family trying to figure things out one day at a time.Jason Kelce’s greatest lesson from fatherhood may therefore be surprisingly simple. Children do not just need parents who teach them how to succeed. They need parents willing to listen, learn and grow alongside them. For a man who spent years being judged by wins, losses and championships, that may be the most valuable scorecard of all.
