India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: The Department of Posts has released the India Post Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026 notification for 23,757 posts. The recruitment is being conducted under the GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026, through Advertisement No. 17-12/2026-GDS.The notification was released on August 27, 2026. One-Time Registration (OTR) will begin on August 31, while candidates can submit online applications and fees from September 2 to September 21, 2026. The recruitment covers Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak positions across postal circles.Circle-wise vacancies releasedMaharashtra has the highest number of vacancies among the listed circles, with 2,297 posts for Marathi-speaking candidates. Tamil Nadu follows with 2,118 vacancies, while Uttar Pradesh has 1,691 posts.

Important dates and application feeThe OTR window will remain open from August 31 to September 19, 2026. Online applications and fee submission will begin on September 2 at 5 pm and close on September 21 at 5 pm. Candidates can make corrections on September 23 and September 24.

Male candidates from UR, OBC and EWS categories must pay Rs 100. SC, ST, PwBD, female and transwomen candidates are exempted from the fee.Eligibility and service conditionsCandidates aged 18 to 40 years as on September 21, 2026, can apply, subject to applicable relaxations. Applicants must have passed Class 10 with Mathematics and English and possess knowledge of the relevant local language. Basic computer knowledge and cycling skills are also required.The TRCA ranges from Rs 12,000 to Rs 29,380 for BPMs and Rs 10,000 to Rs 24,470 for ABPMs and Dak Sevaks. Working hours range from four to five hours a day.GDS selection processSelection will be based on a system-generated merit list prepared using Class 10 marks calculated to four decimal places. Shortlisted candidates will undergo physical document verification, followed by medical examination and pre-engagement formalities.Selected BPMs must arrange accommodation for operating the Branch Post Office at their own cost and reside within the post village. ABPMs and Dak Sevaks must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.
