The review also led to the withdrawal of Y-category security cover provided to Tej Pratap, chief of the Janshakti Janta Dal and Lalu Prasad’s elder son.Officials said the decision followed an assessment of security arrangements extended to various VIP protectees across Bihar.Explaining the category that has been withdrawn, an official said, “The Z-plus security comprises a dedicated team of trained personnel equipped with advanced arms.”Despite the downgrade, Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi will continue to receive security support. Their present arrangements include between two and eight BSAP house guards, two bodyguards from the Patna District Force, along with a pilot vehicle and a bulletproof car.The review has not affected all members of the RJD’s first family. R Ramalinga Reddy NEW DELHI: Upset over being denied the Bengaluru development portfolio that he said was promised to him, senior Congress leader R Ramalinga Reddy on Friday resigned from the Karnataka cabinet just two days after being sworn in as a minister.Announcing his decision in Bengaluru, Reddy said he could not continue in the ministry after chief minister DK Shivakumar allegedly failed to honour an assurance made to him regarding the key portfolio.”The resignation comes at a time when Rahul Gandhi is in town. I cannot work against my conscience, so I am resigning as minister,” said Reddy.According to the veteran Congress leader, Shivakumar had assured him in 2023 that he would be given charge of the Bengaluru development department once he took over as chief minister after two and a half years. Reddy claimed that commitment was not fulfilled when portfolios were allocated following the latest Cabinet expansion.Expressing his disappointment, he said Shivakumar had “done a U-turn” on the earlier understanding.”I have been humiliated time and again, cannot take it anymore,” Reddy said.Despite stepping down from the ministerial post, Reddy made it clear that he would remain with the Congress and continue as an MLA.”I will continue to remain a Congress MLA and remain in Congress,” he said.The senior leader also highlighted his long association with the party, saying he had spent 53 years in the Congress and had no intention of leaving it. “I am not angry, only disappointed,” he said.Reddy further stated that he would not personally hand over his resignation to the chief minister and would instead send it through his personal secretary to the chief minister’s Office.His resignation comes amid reports of dissatisfaction within sections of the Karnataka Congress over the distribution of portfolios in the newly formed ministry.The newly inducted ministers include KH Muniyappa, KJ George, MB Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jarkiholi, Krishna Byre Gowda, Priyank Kharge, UT Khader, Eshwara Khandre, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Byrathi Suresh, and Sharan Prakash Patil.On Wednesday, Congress leader DK Shivakumar took oath as the 34th chief minister of Karnataka at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, marking a significant leadership transition in the state. Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee (R) NEW DELHI: Expelled Trinamool Congress leader Ritabrata Banerjee on Friday exuded confidence that support for the rebel TMC faction he is leading will continue to “increase”.Ritabrata’s remarks came amid turmoil within Mamata Banerjee’s party.The expelled TMC leader claimed to have the backing of a sizeable section of MLAs from the party’s strength in the West Bengal assembly. He said the number of supporting MLAs would only increase. However, he clarified that he has not been in touch with any TMC MPs.Bengal leader of opposition and reber TMC leader Ritabrata Banerjee said, “I will say only one thing – our numbers will keep on increasing. Absolutely confident. There is no question of (the numbers) dropping. Let’s wait and watch. As far as the number of MLAs is concerned, the numbers will keep increasing…In the last week, I have not spoken to any MP.”He also appealed to chief minister Suvendu Adhikari to take action against BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal, who allegedly protested outside the residence of fellow rebel TMC leader Sandipan Saha.West Bengal assembly’s leader of opposition and expelled Trinamool Congress leader Ritabrata Banerjee said, “Priyanka Tibrewal, BJP candidate who was defeated from Entally AC, protested in front of Sandipan Saha’s house. This is shameful. We filed a case against this incident in New Market PS. We appeal to CM Suvendu Adhikari to never support this kind of act and take action against it.”He further said, “If there was public outrage, was she also a part of the public? What was she doing there? Sandipan Saha’s house does not come under the Entally constituency, but the Chowringhee constituency. By gathering people from outside, they (BJP) did this.”Ritabrata’s claim to the post of leader of the opposition in Bengal has added to the chaos in TMC as party supremo Mamata Banerjee herself conceded defeat from her own Bhabanipur constituency.
