Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel; Telangana CM Revanth Reddy NEW DELHI: The Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), the Congress’ foreign wing, has criticised the Centre for its “double standards” in allowing the Gujarat chief minister to visit the US while denying clearance to Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy for his US visit.“The principal objective of the chief minister’s US visit was to advance Telangana’s ambition to make Hyderabad a global centre for education, innovation, skills, and research through partnerships with some of the world’s leading universities,” the IOC said in a statement, according to PTI.“Efforts to advance education, employment, investment, and opportunities for India’s youth must remain above partisan politics. The denial of clearance to the Telangana chief minister while the Gujarat chief minister is permitted to visit the United States amounts to a troubling and unmistakable double standard,” the statement added. With the ministry of external Affairs (MEA) denying him permission, he will now return to Hyderabad on Sunday, when he was scheduled to leave for Boston.On its decision, the MEA explained on Friday that it assesses visits by chief ministers, as well as other dignitaries, before according political clearance.“The programme proposed in such cases should be appropriate to the office held and the purpose of the visit. In this particular case, that was not so in respect of the US. Therefore, clearance has not been given. Incidentally, his visit to the UK has been cleared,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters at a briefing.Responding to the MEA’s decision, Reddy had stated that the sole purpose of his visit to the US was to, as part of the Centre’s New Education Policy, bring the world’s best institutions to India, Telangana and Hyderabad.“They would have been an answer to our youth’s aspirations to get education, skills, and training from the best Ivy Leagues and top global institutions. Kerala Wakf Board has moved the Supreme Court seeking  four months more to upload 25,000 properties NEW DELHI: With the expiry of both the Dec 6, 2025 deadline and a five month extension for uploading details of all waqf properties on Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) portal, Kerala Wakf Board has moved the Supreme Court seeking four months more to upload 25,000 properties apart from 40,000 it posted on the official website.A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana sought response from the Union govt. A coordinate bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and A G Masih on Dec 1 last year had refused to extend the Dec 6, 2025 deadline for uploading of properties registered in the names of waqfs on UMEED portal.Justices Datta and Masih had told the petitioners represented by Kapil SIbal, A M Singhvi and Mohd Nizamuddin Pasha that the wakfs can approach tribunals for extension of time. Kerala State Wakf Board had got a five months extension from the tribunal, which expired on May 17.The Board said, “Kerala has approximately 13000 waqf institutions and more than 60,000 waqf properties. That despite persistent technical issues, substantial progress has been achieved by the Petitioner herein in the matter of uploading the data. More than 40,000 properties have already been verified and approved and approximately 25000 properties remain pending for verification and approval.”As per the data given by the Centre to the SC, which had rejected interim stay on the implementation of Wakf Amendment Act, 2025, Kerala State Wakf Board had 53,282 properties spread over a cumulative area of 36,167 acres. Kerala Wakf Board has moved the Supreme Court seeking  four months more to upload 25,000 properties NEW DELHI: With the expiry of both the Dec 6, 2025 deadline and a five month extension for uploading details of all waqf properties on Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) portal, Kerala Wakf Board has moved the Supreme Court seeking four months more to upload 25,000 properties apart from 40,000 it posted on the official website.A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana sought response from the Union govt. A coordinate bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and A G Masih on Dec 1 last year had refused to extend the Dec 6, 2025 deadline for uploading of properties registered in the names of waqfs on UMEED portal.Justices Datta and Masih had told the petitioners represented by Kapil SIbal, A M Singhvi and Mohd Nizamuddin Pasha that the wakfs can approach tribunals for extension of time. Kerala State Wakf Board had got a five months extension from the tribunal, which expired on May 17.The Board said, “Kerala has approximately 13000 waqf institutions and more than 60,000 waqf properties. That despite persistent technical issues, substantial progress has been achieved by the Petitioner herein in the matter of uploading the data. More than 40,000 properties have already been verified and approved and approximately 25000 properties remain pending for verification and approval.”As per the data given by the Centre to the SC, which had rejected interim stay on the implementation of Wakf Amendment Act, 2025, Kerala State Wakf Board had 53,282 properties spread over a cumulative area of 36,167 acres. Anti-reservation protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar NEW DELHI: No permission has been granted for Sunday’s planned protest against the UGC Equity Regulations, 2026, and the reservation system at Shah Auditorium in the capital, Delhi Police clarified.The police described videos circulating on social media claiming that permission had been granted as “false and misleading.””It is further clarified that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS (erstwhile Section 144 CrPC) are already in force in the North District. Accordingly, protest marches, processions, demonstrations, and assemblies of five or more persons are strictly prohibited,” the Delhi Police said.Urging citizens not to amplify, forward or share any unverified content on social media, the force warned of strict legal action against those found creating or disseminating fake news.This comes after a large number of people gathered at Jantar Mantar on Friday to protest against caste-based reservation under the banner of Reservation Hatao Andolan (RHA), calling for a complete overhaul of the reservation system.The protesters demanded that quotas in academics and employment be determined strictly by income levels rather than social or caste identities. They also advocated for a “one family, one reservation” policy and called for the immediate withdrawal of the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) 2026 caste-equity directives.Security personnel were present at Jantar Mantar as protesters assembled at the designated protest area. Chirag Paswan hinted that govt may engage while protesters are seeking income-based quotas instead of caste-based reservation NEW DELHI: Union minister Chirag Paswan has said the government is willing to hold talks with protesters opposing caste-based reservation, provided they put forward their demands in a systematic manner.“Any sort of misunderstanding around reservation can create anger among a large section of the country’s population. Once the protesters present their demands systematically, the government will engage in dialogue with them,” Paswan told reporters in Patna on Saturday, as quoted by PTI.The statement comes as a large group of protesters gathered at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar carrying banners, posters and saffron flags, and raised slogans against caste-based quotas. They are seeking a system in which economic criteria take precedence over caste when determining eligibility for government support and reservation.Meanwhile, responding to the demand for economically based quotas, Paswan pointed to the NDA government’s existing 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).Paswan also criticised the Congress over its protest outside the Parliament Street police station, accusing the party of trying to shift attention from the Vande Mataram controversy.
