FSSAI issues 150 notices to food brands over misleading ads, false claims, labelling non-compliance
NEW DELHI: Food regulator FSSAI on Saturday said it has issued more than 150 notices to food companies, including major brands such as Nestle India, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola India, in recent months over misleading advertisements, false claims and non-compliance with labelling regulations.In a social media post, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) shared an update on its enforcement action against major brands in recent months, according to news agency PTI.“Over 150 notices issued for misleading advertisements, false claims & labelling non-compliances,” the FSSAI said.The regulator also shared a list of some major brands against which action has been taken. These include Nestle India, PepsiCo, Abbott India Ltd, Red Bull India, Danone India, Monster Energy India Pvt Ltd, Hell Energy Pvt Ltd, Mondelez India, Coca-Cola India, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Ferrero India and Kenvue Inc.Over the past few months, the FSSAI said it has taken action against various food business operators (FBOs) over serious violations of food safety laws and regulations.The regulator has also cracked down on energy drink and alcoholic beverage makers.Elaborating on its recent enforcement actions, the FSSAI said it has seized products from several companies over violations.As many as 12 notices have been issued to e-commerce companies Amazon and Flipkart.“One Amazon warehouse license has also been cancelled,” it said.The FSSAI said more than 30 notices have been issued to food service establishments, including KFC, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Costa Coffee.It has also suspended five licences of Domino’s.Last year, the regulator issued notices to several five-star hotels as well.Earlier this week, the FSSAI said many companies had started taking corrective action following the notices issued against them.
