File photo: Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde NEW DELHI: A helicopter carrying Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde was forced to return to Mumbai on Thursday afternoon after encountering bad weather mid-flight, officials said.According to news agency ANI, Shinde was travelling from Mumbai to Murbad in Thane district to attend a wedding ceremony in the family of a Shiv Sena office-bearer.The helicopter had taken off from the helipad at Mahalaxmi Racecourse at around 3:30 pm.In a statement, the office of the deputy CM said the helicopter deviated from its scheduled route after the pilot noticed an approaching storm system near Airoli in Navi Mumbai.“Due to the pilot’s timely alertness and presence of mind, the helicopter was turned back and safely landed at the Pawan Hans helipad in Juhu,” the statement said.“No one was injured in the incident, and all those on board, including Deputy CM Shinde, are safe,” it added.Pilot alerted Shinde about approaching stormThe pilot informed Shinde about the deteriorating weather conditions and advised against continuing the journey. Following the warning, the deputy chief minister decided to return to Mumbai immediately.The helicopter later landed safely at the Pawan Hans facility in Juhu.According to news agency PTI, Shinde was accompanied by members of his staff, including personal assistant Prabhakar Kale, special executive officer Balsingh Rajput and media adviser Vinay Patrdukar.The development comes months after a major aviation tragedy involving then Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash on January 28 while travelling to Baramati in Pune district. It secured one Rajya Sabha seat and 28 assembly constituencies as part of the DMK-led alliance, yet shifted towards an alternative front within days, undermining the victory achieved through the hard work of alliance cadres,” the resolution read.The Congress, which won five seats, has extended support to TVK on the condition that no “communal force” is included in the alliance. However, TVK remains six seats short of the majority mark, as Vijay — who won from both Perambur and Trichy East — will have to vacate one constituency.On Wednesday, Vijay met governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and staked claim to form the government. NEW DELHI: The vice president of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu state unit Khushbu Sundar expressed her support for TVK chief Vijay for the chief ministerial post as the latter has hit a roadblock in government formation in the state after falling short of majority by 5 MLAs.”As a citizen of Tamilnadu State, when people have chosen their CM, he should lead,” Khushbu Sundar said in a post on X.BJP has won one seat in Tamil Nadu, in alliance with AIADMK. Congress has alleged that the delay in inviting Vijay to form the government is a calculated move by the BJP-led Centre, describing it as an “undemocratic” attempt to undermine the people’s mandate.Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar called Vijay twice in two days and asked him to submit letters of support from allied MLAs and other partners, effectively establishing a working majority before an invitation to form the government.Neither the DMK nor the AIADMK managed to secure a majority, resulting in a hung assembly. – The deaths of four members of a family in south Mumbai last month were caused by zinc phosphide, a chemical commonly used in rat poison, and not by consumption of watermelon as initially suspected, PTI reported on Thursday, citing officials. The chemical was reportedly detected in the viscera samples of all four.The case came to light in April after the muslim family, comprising a husband, wife and their two daughters — died following suspected food poisoning.Earlier, deputy commissioner of police (Zone 1) Pravin Munde had said the investigation into the deaths was under way and that food and body samples had been collected for examination following the post-mortem.In a self-recorded video statement issued last month, Munde said the family had hosted relatives for a meal at their residence on April 25.“A report of unnatural death has been reported at JJ Marg Police Station. Four members of a Muslim family – husband, wife and their two daughters – died. On 25th April, they had invited a few relatives to their home and had a meal with them. Around 10-10.30 pm, after the meal, the relative left,” he said.“The family consumed watermelon around 1-1.30 am at night. Around 5-6 am, they started complaining of vomiting and loose motions. They were rushed to a nearby hospital and yesterday, all four of them died,” Munde added.He had also said that a post-mortem was conducted and samples were collected as part of the investigation.“A postmortem was done, and food samples and samples from their body were also taken. Further investigation continued,” he had said.Earlier on Wednesday, officials said post-mortem examinations had been conducted and the viscera of the deceased preserved for chemical analysis, adding that as part of the investigation, the microbiology department of JJ Hospital submitted a preliminary report to the police stating that no bacterial infection had been detected in the victims.“As per the report, no bacterial infection has been detected so far in the bodies of the victims.
