DU defers PG and professional exams scheduled between May 20–25, cites “unavoidable circumstances”
The University of Delhi has officially postponed postgraduate (PG) and professional semester examinations that were scheduled to be held between May 20 and May 25, 2026. The decision, announced on May 1, has been attributed to “unavoidable circumstances,” according to a formal notification issued by the university administration. The move impacts a large number of students enrolled across various advanced and specialised academic programmes. However, the university has clarified that the revision is strictly limited to this six-day window, and no other changes have been made to the existing examination calendar.
Only a specific window affected
As per the Examination Wing of the university, only those papers scheduled between May 20 and May 25 stand postponed. Examinations scheduled before May 20 and after May 25, 2026, will continue as per the original datesheet without any alteration. The university has emphasised that the rest of the examination structure remains intact, aiming to minimise disruption for students across departments.
Fresh schedule under preparation
Following the postponement, all concerned academic departments have been instructed to immediately begin work on revised date sheets for the affected papers. The university has directed that the rescheduling process must be carried out with “due care” to avoid clashes, academic overlap, or logistical complications.Officials have stated that the revised timetable will be finalised only after careful review and approval at the administrative level.
Advisory for students
Students have been advised to regularly check the official examination portal — exam.du.ac.in — for the latest updates and revised schedules. The university has confirmed that all notifications and updated PDF date sheets will be uploaded there once approved.Students enrolled under the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) and the School of Open Learning (SOL) have also been instructed to monitor their respective portals for course-specific examination updates.
Reason not disclosed
While the university has cited “unavoidable circumstances” for the postponement, it has not provided any detailed explanation behind the decision. The lack of specific clarification has left the reason open-ended, though officials have maintained that the step was necessary for administrative reasons. The university is expected to release the revised schedule in the coming days once departmental submissions are reviewed and finalised.
