Delhi HC allows Sonam Wangchuk’s transfer to private hospital amid hunger strike
NEW DELHI: Scientist and activist Sonam Wangchuk on Tuesday received permission from the Delhi high court to be shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital, amid his prolonged hunger strike over NEET paper leak.However, the court will pass the final order after lunch.Wangchuk, who entered the 24th day of his hunger strike on Tuesday, had sought to be transferred to a private hospital for further treatment.The high court’s decision came a day after the protesters’ march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament.During the hearing, the court directed that Wangchuk be shifted to Medanta Hospital and that his treatment continue under a team of doctors there.“What we propose to do is get him shifted to the hospital of his choice, that is Medanta. He will be treated by the Medanta doctor. All the treatment details at Safdarjung Hospital will be supplied to Medanta immediately and he will be treated there. A panel of doctors to be formed by the director Medanta,” the Bar and Bench quoted the court saying.
